23.01.2022 If you’ve received a government stimulus payment this financial year, do you know whether you need to include it in your tax return? Different payment types are... reported differently: JobKeeper payments if you’re an employee these will be included on your income statement as salary and wages or an allowance. JobSeeker payments need to be included in your tax return and will also be included on your Centrelink payment summary. Accessed super you don’t need to pay tax on COVID-19 early release of super amounts, so you don’t need to include this in your tax return. No need to manually fill this out, most info will be automatically included in your tax return by late July. For more info about other income you need to report, visit www.ato.gov.au//Lodging-your-ta/In-detail/Tax-essentials/

20.01.2022 When you use the 'cloud' your data does not float in digital space - your data is encrypted and stored in real-life global data centres like this one in Sydney (just behind the Convention Centre) When I first saw this building I was so curious, incredible architecture.

08.01.2022 I operate a Xero practice. This means not only do I recommend Xero to my clients, but unlike many larger or more traditional accounting firms, I lodge all tax forms and prepare all financial reports directly through Xero practice software. Xero is undoubtedly the fastest and most modern software on the market for tax accountants, and as a result I am able to pass on great savings to my clients by providing quality professional service at a fair price. Don't worry you don...'t need to use Xero to be my client. Actually regardless of the accounting system you use, you will still experience savings and an entirely digital accounting experience. Not a pen in sight! For clients that do adopt Xero ~ and thank you to those who do ~ as our systems are truly shared, you will experience a seamless and collaborative accounting service. https://youtu.be/XI2gnKVLqPk

02.01.2022 So it's finally here, the second awaited stimulus package. What you need to know if you are a small business (This information is based on the Prime Ministers announcement and the treasury website, current only at the 22nd of March 2020)... ~ You can approach your bank for unsecured loans to assist with cashflow, as the government has guaranteed the loans under a scheme. ~ Payments to small/medium business that employ have been increased. Now eligible for between $20,000 and $100,000 in two instalments, I am assuming that this will be administered through your Business Activity Statement based on the amount of PAYG Withholding on that Statement. Therefore this help will be received or applied in APRIL at the lodgement of your BAS. The second instalment will coincide with the lodgement of the June BAS. ~ Sole traders that have found themselves underemployed are able to access 'Jobseeker' (aka Newstart) allowance if they meet a criteria of lost income (more than 20%? criteria uncertain). With the concession that that assets test will not apply. ~ an additional 'coronavirus supplement' of $550 per fortnight for those individuals that are eligible for Jobseeker allowance will not be income tested. ~Affected individuals will be permitted to drawdown from their superannuation. Up to $10,000 this financial year (pre 30 June 2020) and an additional $10,000 next financial year. Please understand that this information is based on my understanding of the announcements, no detail has been released and in times such as these it's likely to expect that the detail may change.
