19.01.2022 My Favourite Way to Start the Day ACTION, EXERCISE + FABULOUS COMPANY! . .... I wake up happy, knowing I have a session like this ahead of me (yep, even the battle ropes you see me with here!) . Why? Firstly, look at the view! Being outdoors and/or near the water first thing in the morning is like hitting the energy button on my body. . I get a real kick out of blood pumping exercise in the morning, or any time of day, really! . If you struggle to be motivated in the morning, my hot tip is to lay out your exercise clothes the night before- ready to throw on and run out the door. . . What gets YOU out of bed in the morning..? #training #exercise #fitness #grouptraining #socialconnection #fit #narrabeenlake #thegreatoutdoors #exercisemakesmehappy #myhappyplace #friends #itstoughbutiloveit #varietyisthespiceoflife #katiethehealthychiro #healthspaceclinics Thanks to @robcooktraining for always pushing us

19.01.2022 MEAT FREE MONDAY . Kale Salad With Carrot & Ginger Dressing . .... Carrot Ginger Dressing cup chopped roasted carrots, from 3/4 cup raw carrots 1/3 to cup water cup extra-virgin olive oil 2 tablespoons rice vinegar 2 teaspoons minced ginger teaspoon sea salt Salad 1 batch Roasted Chickpeas 1 bunch curly kale, stems removed, leaves torn 1 teaspoon lemon juice teaspoon extra-virgin olive oil 1 small carrot, grated 1 small red beet, grated* watermelon radish, very thinly sliced 1 avocado, cubed 2 tablespoons dried cranberries cup pepitas, toasted 1 teaspoon sesame seeds Sea salt & Freshly ground black pepper Instructions Make the dressing and roast the chickpeas: Preheat the oven to 400F and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper. Toss the chickpeas with a drizzle of olive oil and sprinkle with pinches of salt and pepper. Place the carrot pieces for the dressing in their own corner on the baking sheet to roast alongside the chickpeas. Roast for 25 to minutes, or until the chickpeas are browned and crisp and the carrots are soft. Set the roasted chickpeas aside. Drizzle generously with the carrot ginger dressing. Top with the remaining avocado, more dressing, the roasted chickpeas and sprinkle with the sesame seeds. Season to taste and serve. . 13.01.2022 In case you needed more proof that exercise is da bomb..!! . . The concept of a "polypill" is receiving growing attention to prevent cardiovascular disease. ... Yet similar if not overall higher benefits are achievable with regular exercise, a drug-free intervention for which our genome has been haped over evolution. Compared with drugs, exercise is available at low cost and relatively free of adverse effects. . Head to @bjsm_bmj for more details, and the link to the research . #exercise #fitness #cardiovascularhealth #doweneedtosaymore #doweneedtesearchtoprovethis #deepdownweallknow #exerciseisanobrainer #bjsm #research #knowledge #katiethehealthychiro #fit #polypill #hearthealth #livelonger #livewell #qualityoflife #itsnevertoolate See more
08.01.2022 Sunday Run Day is on hiatus, as I recover from an injury But there’s always something to do to keep active and get some cardio in. Thank the cycle lords I can do a spin class with no pain or detriment! . Here’s some research on the benefits. Beginning exercise, even late in life can be effective in reversing structural and functional changes in the cardiovascular system. It’s never too late!... Read on- it’s very interesting ... . . It is widely accepted that regular physical activity is beneficial for cardiovascular health. Frequent exercise is robustly associated with a decrease in cardiovascular mortality as well as the risk of developing cardiovascular disease. Physically active individuals have lower blood pressure, higher insulin sensitivity, and a more favorable plasma lipoprotein profile. . . A study showing that adherence to a two-year, high-intensity exercise program decreases left ventricular stiffness in previously sedentary middle-aged participants (137) suggests that to some extent, beginning exercise, even late in life can be effective in reversing structural and functional changes in the cardiovascular system associated with aging and/or disease states such as heart failure with preserved ejection fraction. . . Front Cardiovasc Med. 2018; 5: 135. Published online 2018 Sep 28. doi: 10.3389/fcvm.2018.00135 PMCID: PMC6172294 PMID: 30324108 . My legs are well cooked thanks to @kristy.g.housley
08.01.2022 Never underestimate the power of simplicity, by just being a kind human being. In a world of billions, who are so self absorbed and focussed on themselves (admit it, we are ALL guilty of that at some stages of our lives), what’s something that you could do for someone else today..? It could be helping a stranger- paying for their coffee, or picking something up they’ve dropped; calling a friend you’ve been meaning to, sending flowers - or simply smiling at more people (C...ovid safe- you can tell someone is smiling behind a mask because their eyes twinkle)... It’s time we all think about how we can enrich someone’s day. #katiethehealthychiro #kindness #simplicity #randomactsofkindness #keepitsimple #love #kind #enrich #smile #healthspaceclinics #quotes #quote
07.01.2022 FIT FRIDAY . . After unrelenting hip pain, it was time for an ultrasound and MRI... the news was not ideal BUT this is not an excuse to stop all exercise. .... . I thank my stars for this group training session- it’s honestly saving my sanity. . . It’s really crucial you find a PT you gel with, and can modify to suit your needs, and doesn’t follow a cookie cutter approach. . . Feeling fine after riding this baby up hills a few times, coupled with some low impact body weight training . . #fitfriday #fitness #fit #fitfun #grouptraining #social #loveexercise #ilovetraining #trainingmakesmehappy #mountainbike #exercise #katiethehealthychiro #fridayfunday See more
07.01.2022 Bruises on Bruises & Smiles for Miles... Why? My new hobby: mountain biking!! Can it make you smarter..? Read on...... . After time off running to (hopefully) repair my injured hip, I had to take up something that pumped blood around my body. So, mountain biking it is! . . Mountain biking uses large muscle groups that require a lot of oxygen. This makes the heart work steadily, increasing your heart's fitness by 3-7%. Mountain biking is a low impact sport, meaning it puts less stress on your joints than other aerobic activities such as running. . . Researchers at Illinois University found that a 5% improvement in cardio-respiratory fitness from cycling led to an improvement of up to 15% on mental tests. This is in part due to building brain cells in the hippocampus the region of the brain responsible for memory. It boosts blood flow and oxygen to the brain, which fires and regenerates receptors, explaining how exercise helps ward off Alzheimer’s, Professor Arthur Kramer said. . #katiethehealthychiro #mountainbike #bike #riding #bruises #crash #needtopracticesteering #treesjumpinfrontofme #biking #trails #subdayfunday #norco #mynewbike #iwantoridemybicycle #dualsuspension #newhobby
