23.01.2022 Looking to support our campaign (and snag some beautiful vintage pieces while you're at it)? Well, now's your chance! Head to the Kitschathon and place your bids now: https://www.facebook.com/media/set As the Queensland Greens are the only party that refuse to take corporate donations, sometimes we have to come up with creative ways to fund our grassroots campaigns. The "Katinka for Cooper Kitschathon" is brimming with pieces generously donated by members and supporters who... were happy to part with their items for a good home, and a good cause. There's plenty of vintage clothing, jewelry, and a number of items that haven't yet been bid on. Make sure you head to the Facebook album to find yourself a bargain, or tag a friend who you think might be interested. Bidding closes this Friday at COB, so don't delay! > https://www.facebook.com/media/set

20.01.2022 That's 78 votes between one of the two major parties, who accept millions of dollars in dirty donations from fossil fuel corporations and banks, or a community-powered Greens MP who refuses corporate donations and fights for a better future. Make sure you've checked your enrolment, and tag a friend who you think could use a reminder! https://aec.gov.au/

18.01.2022 When Election Day is on Halloween

18.01.2022 Right now families are feeling the squeeze, but in SEQ public transport fares are some of the highest in the world. It costs more for a family to take a bus into the City than it does to drive. Public transport is an essential service. Everyone should be able to access it, regardless of their ability to pay. So the Greens just announced our plan to make public transport completely free for every Queenslander We'll fund it by saving $864 million over four years by scr...apping the State Government's expensive, privatised ticketing system, reducing spending on road-widening and cutting costs associated with fare evasion. We'll also expand Brisbane's bus network, create three new fast rail links across SEQ, build network of safe separated bike lanes and fast-track construction of green bridges over to West End. Free, frequent and reliable public transport will take pressure off families, cut congestion and provide a massive economic stimulus at a time when we desperately need it, by increasing travel around the city and making our neighbourhoods and communities accessible, thriving places to live. Here's the full details: https://www.michaelberkman.com.au/public_transport

18.01.2022 A huge issue in Cooper is that our planning laws are failing us. They're filled with loopholes that favour wealthy developersnot the needs or wishes of locals who are most affected. Today, the Greens announced our plan to overhaul Queensland development laws to give residents control over how their own neighbourhoods grow and develop. You can read our full plan here https://greens.org.au/qld/planningact

18.01.2022 We’re having a beautiful time on the booths today. We have the chance to start transforming Queensland in favour of everyday people and the environment. We have the chance to elect four or more Greens reps to Queensland parliament and usher in the most progressive government in Queensland’s history. NZ and the ACT have shown what’s possible when a Labor government has to listen to the Greens. Now it’s Queensland’s turn. The Greens are the only party who don’t take corporate d...onations. So when we win, we fight for you We’ll fight to create 23,000 jobs building 100% publicly owned renewables We’ll fight to fully fund our state schools We’ll fight to make mining corporations pay their fair share To phase out coal and gas by 2030 To scrap hospital parking fees Build 100,000 beautiful new public homes Invest in public parkland and free public transport Expand our healthcare system with 9500 new nurses and doctors This is a turning point. Let’s make history. This time, vote 1 Greens!

15.01.2022 Have you seen Katinka for Cooper signs sprouting up around the neighbourhood lately? Our volunteers and supporters have been painting the town Green! Sign up at www.katinkaforcooper.com/yard_sign It’ll only take you 30 seconds. Hosting a yardsign might seem silly, but it’s an important part of our grassroots campaigns. The major parties spend huge corporate money on TV advertising and billboards but yardsigns show something different. They show your support for the Gree...ns’ transformative vision for Qld, and that the community is swinging behind us. This has a huge impact. Sign up now, and our volunteer team will stop by to pop yours up. Then we’ll take it down again once the election is over. Easy!

15.01.2022 Another beautiful day double-doorknocking in Cooper (though the wind made it difficult to wrangle our hats!) Our volunteers are out holding hundreds of meaningful conversations every weekend. We discuss what issues matter most to our community so we can best represent them. This is the essence of how politics should be: By everyday people, and for everyday people. There are only five weeks until Election Day. For the first time ever the Greens can win this seat and six others across Brisbane. If you want to make history with us, make sure you sign up at: www.katinkaforcooper.com/volunteer

15.01.2022 Our campaign for Cooper achieved more than we could have hoped for - more than I ever thought was possible. From humble beginnings, and by the passion, the will, and the fortitude of every one of us, we smashed target after target, beat every odd, and to the shock and awe of the entire political establishment, we have secured a staggering 10% swing! To all of you who gave your strength, your time, your all; my deepest thanks. To everyone who letterboxed, made phone calls, ...knocked doors, donated, attended stalls, took to the streets, put up signs, entered data - you are incredible. By our staunch efforts, we have run the largest grassroots campaign in the history of this area, and one of the largest campaigns in the history of the Queensland Greens. The result is close and we should have a better idea of where everything will land in the next few days - at the moment there is just 3.5% difference between myself and the Labor and LNP candidates. I know that - no matter the final result - this is just the beginning of a better kind of politics in Cooper and for our great state. Our vision to transform Queensland by harnessing our state’s enormous mining wealth has resonated deeply. We inspired thousands of people, many of whom voted Greens for the first time ever this election. We will continue the fight to transform our society and to provide the essential services every Queenslander needs to live a good life. I thank you all for believing, for hoping, and for fighting this fight alongside me. I’ll be keeping you posted over the coming days. With love, Katinka x

13.01.2022 Down at Payne Road State School in The Gap this morning. Come down and say hello!

13.01.2022 BREAKING: Labor has just announced they're paving the way for the construction of the biggest coal mine in the Southern Hemisphere. This is appalling. They’ve struck a deal to provide millions of taxpayer dollars in royalties deferrals to Adani. Millions of dollars that should be going to schools, hospitals, and a COVID economic recovery for every Queenslander. Labor are keeping the details of this deal secret, and there's no surprise why: In 2017, they promised Queenslande...rs that no taxpayer money would go to Adani. Four weeks out of this crucial election, they've broken that promise. Adani has been struggling to construct this mine due to financial divestment and public outcry. This deal will allow Adani to increase its cash flow during the early years of the project, in turn allowing quicker repayments of the upfront costs of construction. So, in the middle of this historic employment and economic recession, Queensland Labor are giving a billionaire coal baron and his multinational coal corporation a leg up. This deal is dodgy and it doesn't stack up. The writing is on the wall: We have to phase out fossil fuels and provide a just transition for workers to 100% community-owned renewable energy. And we must do it now. Instead, in the last 12 months, Labor has given mining and gambling corporations a royalties freeze, cut the wages of teachers and nurses, and now this. The major parties are on a unity ticket when it comes to Adani. They're both hooked on fossil fuel subsidies and expansion, and accept millions of dollars in corporate donations from the industry. One thing is clear: the only way to stop the Adani coal mine and kickstart the transition to a jobs-rich, secure renewable energy future is by voting Greens.

13.01.2022 ECQ donations data has dropped This year, Qld Labor and the LNP has taken over half a million dollars from corporations, lobby groups and organisations all from cash for access meetings at the parties' "business forums". Corporations like Santos, the Qld Resources Council, and property developers like Watpac, are buying access to the premier for $5,500 a pop. ... Add this to the $100 million the major parties have accepted since 2012, and you can paint a pretty clear picture of our political system being stacked in favour of big corporations and their profits. The major parties will try to defend these donations as they’re technically legal, but all this demonstrates is just how fundamentally flawed our donations laws are. The Greens introduced legislation to ban corporate donations: because Labor and the LNP will always find loopholes unless corporate donations are completely outlawed. The Greens remain the only party that refuses all donations from corporations. We fight for everyday people and our communities, and don't believe anyone should be able to buy favourable outcomes from Government.

12.01.2022 Check this out! We've created an 11 ways the Greens can transform Queensland for the better booklet. It captures our transformative vision for Cooper and for Queensland. It is detailed, it is fully-costed, and it will change votes, but we need your help. Head to: www.katinkaforcooper.com/fundraiser Unlike Labor and the LNP, we don't have millions of dollars pouring in from big corporations like Santos, Adani, and Crown Casino. We only rely on everyday people giving what the...y can spare to fund our grassroots campaigns. If you chip in, you can help us deliver this policy manifesto to over 20,000 homes in Cooper. It contains our plan to create tens of thousands of good secure jobs and fully fund public health and education. It presents a way to transition to 100% community-owned renewable energy by reviving local manufacturing. It outlines our potential to build a safe and secure home for the 40,000+ Qlders who need one. Our teams of passionate volunteers have been holding crucial conversations with Cooper residents every week, but even still they cannot speak to everyone. This booklet can. Can you chip-in? 11.01.2022 Fueling up at The Lodge before the big day! Looking forward to meeting as many of you as possible as we bring the Cooper campaign home.

10.01.2022 Congratulations, Amy!

09.01.2022 Well, hi. Have you got your tickets for Jump to the Left @ Lefty's yet? Can't wait to see you there.

09.01.2022 PSA: If you've received a letter like this, make sure you check where the prepaid envelope is actually going! If it's from the LNP or Labor, it's probably going back to them so they can use your data to campaign. Labor and the LNP are sending out these letters encouraging residents to apply for postal voting - but the prepaid envelope included is actually addressed to a PO box owned by the parties, not the ECQ. This is common practice for both major parties every election,... to gather voter data for campaigning purposes. There's no problem with encouraging or reminding people to apply for a postal vote, but I think you should be honest about where the application's going. The Greens always encourage voters to apply directly to the ECQ, and we never collect data from postal vote applications. Postal voting applications are open. Here's how to apply for a postal vote via the ECQ: Online at ecq.qld.gov.au By phone on 1300 881 665

07.01.2022 Community sport is crucial for kids to stay healthy, make friends, have fun and learn new life skills- just like health and education, sport is an essential service. It’s tragic that in Qld, countless children are missing out because the fees are too expensive for their families. Every child should be able to participate in club sport, regardless of their family’s ability to pay. So this morning the Greens announced our plan to provide every Queensland child a free season ev...ery year which will transform lives, connect communities and relieve pressure from families. The Greens will: Guarantee all Queenslanders under 18 a free season of organised sport every year by covering all registration costs, paid directly to clubs Provide $10,000 grants to clubs to help upgrade facilities, recover from the impacts of COVID-19 and handle extra registrations Give parents a $150 rebate to purchase sports equipment Cover the total cost with a 0.05% levy on the big banks Check out the full details here https://greens.org.au/qld/freesport

06.01.2022 Hey. Have you heard the news? There is officially no incumbent in Cooper. Historically, this is the time the Greens win in lower house seats: when a Labor MP steps down. It’s how Adam Bandt rose to a historic victory in Melbourne, how Jonathan Sri spearheaded into Council for the Gabba, and how Michael Berkman was elected in our neighbouring seat of Maiwar. These opportunities don’t come around very often; this is a pivotal moment. Since 2012, the major parties have accepte...d over $100million in corporate donations from the big banks, fossil fuel corporations, and developers. Imagine what we could do with a team of Greens MPs working to deliver outcomes for the good of all of us, rather than their corporate donors. We can work to undo the decades of privatisation that squandered our public assets and services. We can create hundreds of thousands of good, secure jobs, and hire the nurses, teachers, firefighters, and care workers that Queenslanders need. We can reboot manufacturing in Queensland and transform our energy systemscreating tens of thousands of jobs per year, and cheaper electricity bills. We can fund top-tier social housing to address homelessness and housing insecurity. We can make medication more affordable, provide world-class public healthcare, and free, top-quality childcare. We can do all of this, and more, by making the big banks and mining corporations finally pay their fair share. Ultimately, we can emerge from this crisis and build a Queensland that works for everyone. This is no mean feat. The major parties will be pouring millions of dollars from their corporate war chests to beat us. Make sure you’ve got your tickets to my Launch at Lefty's to hear about how, when we work together, we can win.
