25.01.2022 Another awesome day in the studio
21.01.2022 Changing my strings today while listening to Electric Violin Shop’s awesome podcast Rockstar Violinist. It features dozens of interviews with electric string players who are thinking outside the box, exploring genres and generally making the violin very cool! I feel like I found my people
21.01.2022 If we were a medical school and you were a med student practicing appendectomies, you’d take your work very seriously because you’d imagine that one night at 2am someone is going to waltz into your emergency room and you’re going to have to save their life. Well my friends, someday at 8pm someone is going to walk into your concert hall and bring you a mind that is confused, a heart that is overwhelmed and a soul that is weary. Whether they go out whole again will depend partly on how well you do your craft. Karl Paulnack (Director of music at Boston University)
21.01.2022 Went for a run on #southbank, had a swim and then finished up with a smoothie while listening to live music on the green! Good life choices Thanks Brisbane for investing in musicians and our music to make this city an even more beautiful place.
21.01.2022 God has taken the most precise way of communicating truth, which is words, and combined it with the vaguest way of communicating truth, which is music - and He has put them together to make singing. The purpose is that what we know in our minds, gets connected in our hearts. Harold Best
19.01.2022 Ever wondered how we make little lonely me sound like a whole orchestra? Imagine that the camera is the microphone, and then check out the photos to see how each take the instrument sound comes from a slightly different place. When we put all those separate recordings together, it sounds like you are surrounded by an orchestra of meeeee! We have been doing anywhere from two to NINE different layers using this strategy and I can’t wait for you to hear it!
18.01.2022 I made a video. You should check it out!
18.01.2022 When my brother Sheridan and I decided to write a song about siblings, we wanted to take stories from real life. This adorable photo of me playing hide-and-seek under the high chair inspired our very first verse! Sibling relationship is so special (Technically this photo is actually of me with our youngest brother Lloyd . . . but creative licence right?!?) Who has any adorable memories of sibling love?
17.01.2022 Being super blessed by this lovely lady! Eugenie is helping me design and film the music video for one of my upcoming singles BrainTrain. Today we had a lot of fun doing some mock-up shots to experiment with lighting, angles, movements and locations! Check out my story for a little teaser
16.01.2022 Last night I had the privilege of seeing the Outback Spectacular show starring two of my friends from the Ekka! Emma.Irene and Sam Handford did an amazing job and the whole experience was inspiring, moving, exciting and encouraging. It’s so good to see the Australian entertainment industry getting back out there again!
15.01.2022 It’s amazing how important an instrument case is. Obviously it protects my violin and makes it possible for me to travel and adventure. But it’s more than that too. My instrument case tells a story, it has a history. It gives me a look and a feel when I carry it. It goes with me everywhere; it flies with me, walks with me, plays with me and then at the end of the day it’s there to look after my violin until I’m ready to start all over again. I’m rather sadly retiring my well-traveled, well-loved and well-used single violin case. It is (literally) covered in memories but now that I have TWO violins who come on adventures with me, it’s time to start making new memories
13.01.2022 I’ve been hand-making some more merchandise items It’s been pretty fun breaking out the sewing machine again.
12.01.2022 What-do-you-want-to-year-Wednesday? What do you want to hear me play? Comment below and next Wednesday, I’ll upload a video of the most popular suggestion!
11.01.2022 I love having kids at my performances! So I’m trying to design some of my merchandise with kiddies in mind If you have a little budding musician, these bell bracelets are just the thing!
10.01.2022 The (highly technical and professional) recording notes we have for this song are PARTY TIME! More fun recording today for my upcoming album Home Is Not So Far.
10.01.2022 A little sneak peak from today’s editing/brainstorming/arranging/trying-things-that-didn’t-work/trying-something-else session It’s amazing and quite beautiful to fully realise how much time, effort and brain power goes into making something like an album. It’s a process that I’m loving every bit of!
07.01.2022 Spent the day with my amazingly talented cellist friend Eugenie today! There are going to be some stunning cello parts on this album
07.01.2022 Pretty fun spending a few hours brainstorming with these wonderful people today! Eugenie and Elias you guys are going to make this album so much better! P.S. How miniature does my little instrument look next to these bad guys!?!? You almost have to do a double take to see that I’m actually holding an instrument at all
05.01.2022 Back in the studio today . . . it makes me very happy. Just like this photo! Today we finished almost all the violin parts for the album, we are on the home stretch
03.01.2022 Beautiful morning! Beautiful view! Life is good
03.01.2022 This was my view for most of the day yesterday! My new strings were sounding beautiful in the recording studio
02.01.2022 Today’s recording session looks more like a maths equation as we did all the work of figuring out what things needed to be recorded when, where and how. It’s so exciting to see things coming together slowly but surely!
02.01.2022 His love isn’t cautious. It’s a love that sent His own son to die a gruesome death on a cross. There is no Plan B with the love of God. He gives His heart so completely, so preposterously that if refused, we would think it irreparably broken. But He gives Himself away again and again and again and again. Time and time again. Make no mistake, our sins do pain His heart and seventy times seven is a lot of times to get your heart broken. And yet He opens up and allows us back in every single time. His love saw you when you hated Him and though all logic said reject me, He said I don’t care what it costs me. I lay my life on the line as long as I get their hearts. - Cory Asbury
01.01.2022 A few weeks ago, I woke up with my left ear completely blocked off. It was nothing serious and it’s fine now . . . but it made me think. Even loosing hearing temporarily in just one ear (albeit an important ear!), I realised how much of a blessing it is to have good ears. Quite apart from the music stuff, I had trouble hearing people, got easily distracted and struggled to converse in a bigger group context. Look after your hearing people! It’s a blessing that is so easily taken for granted until it is lost.
01.01.2022 I’ve been working hard today on choral parts for one of my songs! Stay tuned because pretty soon I’m going to need a choir and I might want YOU!
