24.01.2022 Anzac Day commemorates the lives of all Australians who have lost their lives in all the military and peacekeeping operations in which Australia has been involv...ed. It is a day of national remembrance. As Australians we take this time to reflect on the many different meanings of war. Lest we forget. #ANZACDAY2020 #athomeweremember
24.01.2022 ROTA message for Anzac Day We have received a number of requests to resend the Anzac Day Front Gate project, in conjunction with Pierre Seillier our graphic art...ist we have created two images of a person holding the candle at the front gate for the service. Please feel free to past these onto onto your friends and family members. The period of silence after the Last Post can of one minute or two minutes duration - it is your choice. We have also asked if members could send a photo from your Anzac day front gate participants (with names of who is in the photo) so we run them in the June edition of Tobruk House news. 23.01.2022 A message from the Governor-General to fellow veterans. In these very serious times, it is important that we all continue looking out for each other. This is i...mportant for all Australians, but I wanted to take a moment to talk directly to the veteran community. It is critically important that we all listen to the direction of the authorities particularly around social distancing. This is everyones responsibility. Yet it is just as important to stay connected, stay active and stay kind to each other. Reach out to people and check they are okay. "It is as simple as a phone call, message or an email to a mate or former colleague. "Above all if you need assistance yourself, reach out. Put your hand up and ask. You are not alone and now, more than ever it is important that we are there for each other, kind to each other and connected to each other." 22.01.2022 On this day 102 years ago these troopers had no idea that the fight they were approaching would go down as one of our finest hours. They were soon to take part ...in the Charge at Beersheba. Their feat of courage, daring and determination etched the name of the Australian Light Horsemen and their gallant remounts into military history forever. Today and always we remember them. Lest We Forget
22.01.2022 This is absolutely brilliant, please have a listen
20.01.2022 The Governor-General and Mrs Hurley spent the afternoon baking Anzac biscuits - partly because they are delicious but also because baking the biscuits is a grea...t prompt to talk about the Anzac legacy. With Anzac Day just a few days away, it is a timely to reflect on what the day means, have discussions and share stories with your family and friends. Anzac biscuits delicious, and a great conversation starter in the home! The Governor-General and Mrs Hurley were joined in the kitchen by Corporal Taylah Buhagiar from the Royal Australian Air Force - who shared her own reflections on the importance of Anzac Day.
20.01.2022 For the first time, the Governor-General and the Governor-General of New Zealand have recorded a joint video message to commemorate Anzac Day. In the message, t...he Governor-General and Her Excellency The Rt Honourable Dame Patsy Reddy GNZM, QSO have recognised the unique nature of this years Anzac Day, the importance of remembering and honouring the sacrifice of our forebears and drawing inspiration from their legacy as we confront our own generational test. Australian Governor-General: At a time when staying connected has never been more important, Dame Patsy and I on behalf of our respective nations bring you this joint Anzac Day message. New Zealand Governor-General: Kia ora koutou - greetings. On this very different Anzac Day, David and I acknowledge the enduring bonds forged between our two countries by the ANZACs in Gallipoli. : On Anzac Day we remember and honour the service and sacrifice of those who have served our nations. : This year, Gallipoli will not be a place of pilgrimage. The Last Post will not echo across Anzac Cove, nor at Lone Pine nor Chunuk Bair. There will be no visitors to the memorials and cemeteries on Gallipoli; no expeditions up the steep ravines and ridge-lines where our forebears fought and died. There will be no public gatherings in our towns and cities, and no opportunities for our citizens to stand side by side to honour our veterans and pay homage to those who lost their lives in times of war : But many of us can still participate in an act of remembrance. We know that in thousands of homes across Australia and New Zealand, people will come together in spirit to honour the service and sacrifice of those who have served. Acts of remembrance, of course, are very much a personal thing. Whatever way you choose to remember, Anzac Day is a time: - To acknowledge those who have died in service to our nations. - To reflect on how that service and sacrifice has contributed to what and who we are as nations today that is, to understand its impact. - And, to understand what our response should be to that legacy. : Along with our friends in Australia, we too will commemorate our day of remembrance in a unique way, knowing that on either side of the Tasman we can draw strength and resolve from the courage and comradeship of our forebears. We can be guided by their sense of common purpose, and the understanding that we all have a part to play in keeping each other safe and well in our current adversity and that includes reaching out to support the vulnerable, fearful and anxious among us. We can choose to do good to ensure that adversity brings out the best in us. It is in this way that we can best honour the memory of the many people who live on in our memories, and the sacrifices that they made for our nations. : We remember on Anzac Day for a reason. We are proud of our ANZAC forebears. Let us make them proud of us. : Ka maumahara tonu ttou ki a rtou. : Lest we forget. #AnzacDay #LestWeForget #AnzacAtHome

14.01.2022 As we are not able to host any ANZAC Day events in 2020 at our brand new RSL Club, please enjoy "The Last Post" performed by Jim the Bugler of the Blue Mountains City RSL Band. This 2014 version was performed before the Club burnt down at the 11.30am service after the March. "They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old; Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning ... We will remember them." ~Lest We Forget~
