16.01.2022 Magpies continue winning steak in AFL 9s The Alexandra Hotel Magpies kept their winning streak intact and remain top of the ladder after defeating the Blackburn Family Hotel Tigers by 23 points in round seven of the Katoomba AFL 9s. For the Tigers, Jack Wolff led from the front - ably supported by Dujon Fuzzard and Mark Blackburn - while Shane Hines played well up forward including taking arguably the mark of the tournament so far, a spectacular one handed effort from a low pass in wet conditions, which he converted into a goal to keep the Tigers in the hunt. 16.01.2022 First report of the start of the Katoomba AFL 9s! ---------------------------------------------------------------- Wolves win on debut at Katoomba AFL 9s... New side, the Katoomba Wolves, tasted victory in their debut week in the Katoomba AFL 9s round four, taking their opportunities to get home by a point over the Blackburns Family Hotel Tigers. Led by experienced Victorian expat Dujon Fuzzard and supported by the smart running of Andy McDonell and strong forward presence of former Magpie Chris Gabardi, the Wolves played good football, with strong performances from newcomers Shane Drake, Patrick Williams and Cameron Sach. For the Tigers, Hamish Russell, Jack Wolff and Brad Langham proved indispensable, while Mark Blackburns long kicking game kept the Tigers big forwards in the hunt. Unfortunately they could not convert all their opportunities but remained competitive throughout. The addition of the Wolves meant a full compliment of three games were played and Alexandra Hotel Magpies capitalised on the opportunity, with accurate goalkicking allowing them to see off challenges from the Tigers and the Wolves. A strong captains performance by Magpie skipper Dave Bridgland stifled opposition attack, Myles Bridgland was everywhere, earning a Best On Ground performance over the Tigers, while Harrison Ross and Jim Trihey were ably backed by debutants Shane Pines and Ben Howard. 06.01.2022 Tigers bounce back for much needed win Tigers break through for much needed win The Blackburn Family Hotel Tigers recorded their second win of the season in round eight of the Katoomba AFL 9s, overcoming competition pace-setters, the Alexandra Hotel Magpies, by 37 points.... Spearheaded by a five goal spree from Dujon Fuzzard in the second half, and smart football from Mick Mlinaric, the Tigers midfield was able to match the strong run of Jim Trihey and Miles Bridgland. Dave Bridgland and Harrison Ross battled gamely for the Magpies, but the Tigers lifted with performances from Hamish Ross in his last game and a strong captains effort from Jack Wolff and a defensive display from Brad Langham that kept gun Magpie forwards Chris Gabardi and Ben Howard quiet. 02.01.2022 Wolves and Magpies in Katoomba AFL thriller The Katoomba Wolves and the Alexandra Hotel Magpies played out a fitting finale to the Katoomba AFL 9s season with the Wolves pipping their more fancied opponents in the Grand Final held at Katoomba Falls Top Reserve last Tuesday.. Wolves captain Dujon Fuzzard proved the difference in the tight see-sawing contest, bagging three second half goals to see the Wolves home, but not before some dogged attack by the Magpies. The Magpies le...d by a point at one stage off the back of the swift run of Miles Bridgland, Jim Trihey and Harrison Ross, while Ben Howard threw himself into the contest with great energy and Dave Bridgland led from the front with some clever football. Shane Hines for the Wolves kicked the winning major late in the second half to see the Wolves home by 42 points to 37.
