24.01.2022 ~ Discipline ~ We are not born disciplined. It is something that we learn and a skill that is developed. What this means, is that we as individuals have the capacity to create discipline and practice it daily, to enhance not only our productivity but the level at which we perform. For me, being disciplined is to: Not negotiate with my mind. ... Finishing what I have started (still working on this one - trying to paint poles ) Doing 10% more than what I planned and.. Ultimately moving beyond procrastination. What are your top tips to being disciplined Vickiphotos - Photography by Vicki Tapper

23.01.2022 ... ' As I was crusing around on the ride on this afternoon, I began to question my sanity a little. 20 years old... Mowing a paddock.. on a weekend... And ENJOYING it ... I think this has a lot to say about us as riders. When we commit to our horses and our training, it becomes a lifestyle. It is not easy and requires consistency. Something we must maintain and manage along side of all other aspects in life. And with that, comes sacrafice One thing that I have learnt is that we cannot compare ourselves to others and their situations. Like the grass isn't greener on the other side, people don't have things "easier", they simply make the sacrifices necessary to achieve and maintain their goals Be proud of your progress. It's not going to easy, but it is going to be worth it

15.01.2022 ~ ~ Eventing is hands down my discipline of choice. I have been involved in the sport from the age of 10 and only grown to love it more. It is a passion which I feel has arisen from family influences, particularly my Pop and Aunty, and my first Eventing clinic with Philippa Collier in 2008. For those who wonder why I love it so much, here are my top 3 reasons ... Eventing within itself is multidisciplinary. Being a combination of the 3 phases, it is a true test of a horse and riders partnership and I thrive off the challenge it brings, the desire it plants within us to continually better ourselves; to strive for the next level and push our limits both physically and psychologically to do so. Secondly, I love for the lifestyle of the sport, and the morals and values that it teaches. To be successful you must first be dedicated. You are not only looking after yourself but your horse, around work, university study, time with friends and family, fitness.. whatever you engage in as an occupational being. It’s about creating a life balance; prioritising and making sacrifices to get to where you want to go. Training can be difficult. There are going to be times where we plateau and its patience and motivation to achieve our goals which powers us through such situations. Having a horse brings a sense of responsibility, discipline and self-control and I believe these are attributes of success in not only the sport but in our everyday lives also. Psychologist Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi's famous investigations of "optimal experience" has revealed that what makes an experience genuinely satisfying is a state of consciousness called flow. Whenever I am in the saddle, whether that be at a competition, a training, or even a casual ride out, I am in this state of "flow where I am completely and utterly absorbed in every aspect of the discipline. It is a time where I am able to put all other thoughts aside and be purely focused on and engaged in the activity of riding and all that it involves. I thrive off this positive state. For me, this is what makes the sport and the connection with my horses so special. What is it that you love about your sport

06.01.2022 Dylan in his Horseware Dry Rug from Leader Equine The microfibre material absorbs moisture within minutes, leaving a high gloss and smooth finish to horses coats. I love being able to use this, especially during the winter months, to ensure Dylan is dry before being rugged and stabled/paddocked, and that his temperature remains within normal limits after his cool down. These rugs come in three sizes (S/M/L) and are adjustable to fit horses between rug sizes - this is super handy and affordable when you have a team of horses in work

06.01.2022 Our #1 supporter and quite possibly the greatest man alive Pop, without you I would never have gotten to where I am today, and for that, I cannot thank you enough. You have kept my spirit high and striving towards my goals depsite the hardships faced. Your support and knowledge will forever be appreciated. I hope that I can do you proud

04.01.2022 Most of us as humans have some sort of goal that we wish to achieve; whether that be a sporting goal, financial goal, fitness goal... and alot of the time, these goals tend to be vague and lack a defined pathway of how to get to them. Despite this, our expectations remain high, leaving us to feel overwhelmed, and from this, a lack of motivation. "It's too hard." "I don't have time". "I don't have the resources". We formulate excuses to justify why we ar...e no longer "trying", and it becomes a vicious cycle in which we feel like we are not living up to our full potential, and settle for that. But we are so much more than that! As humans we are imperfect, and so our pursuit to reaching our goals will too be imperfect. But that doesn't mean we are a failure; just because we do not see results straight away, does not mean we should give up. Think of it as instant vs delayed gratification. Although instant gratification brings a sense of immediate fulfilment from an experience of satisfaction, delayed gratification is what makes the journey to our goals much more meaningful and the affects long lasting Focus on your progress. Not an unattainable perfection What are you goals for 2021?

04.01.2022 "You can ride a rigid horse well. But why not make a rigid horse soft and the ride easy?". This has definitely been on of my biggest take aways from this weekend at Stuart Tinney Eventing Clinic; one that I endeavour to incorporate in the training of both my top and young horse. As always, having Stuart over has been a wonderful opportunity to fine tune my riding, and consolidate all that I have learnt from my coach and mentor Philippa Collier Thank you Lynette Winteringham for making this all possible

04.01.2022 Quick trip to the incredible Yalambi Farm Stud for a couple rounds of jumping in preparation for next weekend at Murray CCN Dylan finish 6th in the West Coast Vets Emerald 115cm and 2nd in the Two Queens Young Rider 125cm, producing two quality rounds. 03.01.2022 Wooroloo Makes Welcome Return for WA Riders - by Kate Herren A bumper entry of over 350 combinations descended on Wooroloo Prison Farm for the Wooroloo Leader E...quine CCN 2020 (22-23 August). Held on the prison grounds by kind permission of the Department of Corrective Services, the volunteer committee of Perth Horse Trials Association were widely praised by competitors for working incredibly hard to pull together a COVID-safe event in a short time frame. Emily Early nailed a clear round in the show jumping to top the Winteringham Recruitment CCN2.5* class with the cheeky 11-year-old off the track Thoroughbred, Clear Distinction. Our strength is definitely cross country - his slightly arrogant attitude is what makes him so good cross country, explained Emily, a 23-year-old psychology student from Narrogin. Sixteen-year-old Wooroloo first-timer, Chloe Gee, topped the Ovarit Jumps EvA95J with her recent birthday present, Barz Open. The 9-year-old off the track Thoroughbred was purchased by her grandparents, Nan and Pop Hank with Thora Alssema in July. From my first ride on Barz Open (‘Doodle’), I fell in love with him. He is very much a people-horse and is settling into the family very well, explained Chloe, who lives in Mandurah. The highlight of the weekend was camping with some of my best friends and laughing until our stomachs hurt around the campfire. Winning the event was pretty awesome! It was my first ever time competing at Wooroloo and I definitely know what all the hype is about, it was a very wonderful event and I am hooked. 01.01.2022 What a super weekend at Gidgegannup CCN Dylan performed beyond expectations in the 2* this weekend achieving many personal bests and, as always, leaving a smi...le on my face. Major thanks must go to all of the organisers of the event (Gidgegannup CCN) and of course the sponsors, particularly Gidgegannup Produce and Saddlery for their contributions to the 2* class.
