25.01.2022 Why the dog beach, dog park, doggy day-care is causing social etiquette problems for your dog. There is a massive misconception that the dog beach/park/day care is a great place to take your dog to get socialisation. The harsh reality is your dog is more likely going to learn purely excitement or become more fearful and scared rather than learn about other dogs and how to engage and read them properly. Most lead reactivity I see comes from dogs that used to play over excited ...Continue reading
25.01.2022 I think I’m ready for a puppy, not as hard as you would think!
24.01.2022 All the videos I’ll be posting about bear over the next few days should help people understand what is required daily to develop a puppy. It’s not been hard at all, I’ve just had to dedicate a little more time.
23.01.2022 Romeo has decided this morning that he would like to be part of the circuit
22.01.2022 When you stop focusing on what your dog is doing wrong and shift your energy and presence and turn into someone your dog actually wants to please....... then you’ll see the magic happen! Own your leadership role and respect will follow.
20.01.2022 Really important post here. I’ve got so many owners at the moment struggling with their dogs. I say it over and over, you have to be able to shift who you are, to match/ mirror your dogs attitude. If you cannot find that within yourself, your dog will quite happily walk all over you.
20.01.2022 Check out this cross over recall! Top shelf stuff!
20.01.2022 It’s my amazing partner’s birthday this Saturday. Thanks to Lucy and Albert for the birthday pic!
19.01.2022 Your dog will get away with anything you let it!Your dog will get away with anything you let it!
17.01.2022 Bear is just getting more and more awesome by the second. All these videos are highlighting how much work you can do with a pup and how quickly you can get results. At no point have a treated him like a baby, I’ve been clear on what I want and haven’t backed down.... He is listen to me really well, he isn’t being naughty at all. He is just learning and developing.
16.01.2022 Like I always say, a broken human cannot help a broken dog or start a new relationship with a new dog. To often we focus on the dog, my program is all about focusing on the human. Thanks Sean, another powerful post.
15.01.2022 Ok, last one tonight but seriously. This has not been hard, I have worked and educated this little man today and he has responded so well. Not once has he tried to mouth me, he has calmed so much and is listening so well. I know not all puppies are easy but I also know most people don’t do the hard stuff. Most people prefer to play, excite and give too much affection before give rules, boundaries and discipline. Everyone wants a well behaved dog but struggle to fulfill the dogs needs.
15.01.2022 Front door boundary work.
15.01.2022 Well it’s been awhile since we’ve had a puppy in the house. We’ve got little Frenchie Bear for the next 3 nights. He’s been here for 2 hours, in that time we’ve been working on the following;... - Separation anxiety - Boundary Thresholds - Social etiquette - Staying calm with people and dogs - Toilet training - Crate training He already has a mild separation problem so tomorrow we will work really hard on his independence. I’ll post some videos over the next few days but pretty easy sailing for now.
14.01.2022 More boundary work.
13.01.2022 I went out this morning to see Saffi and Rosie. Rosie the Rottie was recently adopted and all was going well for the first 3 weeks. We are going to chip away at many behaviours in order to stabilise this pack. When I arrived both dogs were pretty intense, so highly strung and over excited. The owner were advised to just hold Saffi on a lead and not allow her to get to the door but that doesn’t teach the dog anything apart from a heap of lead frustration. Once they let her go,... she settled pretty well. There are many things we are starting to work on without using food. The owners unfortunately have been given some very poor advice and were just lost at how to control their dogs. First thing we had to do was settle them down. Something that doesn’t happen often. Within 1.5 hours we had calm relaxed dogs, holding the back door threshold too. Now that the owners have a proper program to follow, results will follow. This is the message received this afternoon from the client
11.01.2022 If you truly want a mentally happy, stable dog that doesn’t suffer from anxiety, stress, fear, excitement and any other behavioural problems you can think of. Don’t make excuses. Excuses are harmful to your dogs happiness!
11.01.2022 This afternoon’s simply social classes were again, great. Youngest dog was 12 weeks, oldest 3 years. Some really good social development with all the dogs.
10.01.2022 Your dog is crying out for help! When your dog is behaving badly i.e. barking, digging, jumping, escaping, reactive, aggressive, anxious, nervous, paw licking etc etc Rather than get angry and frustrated, try helping them through creating the one thing that changes everything.....LEADERSHIP!... All any dog desires and needs is human leadership, someone they can trust, respect and feel safe with. By not providing leadership, you are allowing your dog to suffer terrible mental illness. So many people tell me how much they love their dog but when push comes to shove, they aren't prepared to put in the hard work required to truly make their dog happy. What type of human are you?
10.01.2022 Saffi & Rosie after 1.5 hours. These girls struggle to relax, this is what direct and mental stimulation creates.
10.01.2022 Group Therapy for Reactive Dogs! What a solid performance from all dogs today. Hard to believe this is the reactive class. I put these dogs and owners under a bit of pressure today and they all handled it beautifully.... These dogs are all on my reactive dog program. It’s crucial that they are given an outlet to practice. By outlet I mean a class where they can fine tune their skills and build confidence and trust.
08.01.2022 Understanding rules and boundaries make life easy for dogs.
07.01.2022 Because Bear was hand raise by humans, he is already extremely needy. If we don’t work hard now to get this out of him and build his confidence and independence. He will end up suffering for the rest of his life with anxiety. As hard as it may seem, we do this to ensure a happy, mentally stable, resilient adult dog. He has been working extremely hard this morning with all the rules and boundaries, distractions and is now learning how to self sooth. Leadership = happy dog.
07.01.2022 It the hard stuff that is so beneficial!
06.01.2022 It’s been a privilege watching Milton go from a reactive, over excited dog that struggled to focus and had no rules or boundaries in his life to a well balanced, resilient, coordinated and confident boy.
06.01.2022 Group Therapy ~ Reactive Dogs Awesome class today, every single dog and owner in this class has come a long way. It’s not easy owning a dog with reactivity issues. Remember to take all the small wins as the will add up to create one very worthwhile big win down the track.
04.01.2022 Introducing 5 month old Frenchie Coby to the Kats 4 Dogs pack.
04.01.2022 There is no dog training tool on earth that can build your relationship with your dog. If your dog sees you as a nervous, anxious, excitable, inconsistent, emotional wreck every day, you’ll find that will push them further away from you. Dogs prefer to be with stable humans, they prefer to have a leader to make them feel safe. Whilst they will exist with instability, the will never grow and develop.
04.01.2022 The dogs were part of today’s obstacle course.
03.01.2022 What gets in the way of progress? FEAR! Fear is a major blockage, it prevents you from a balanced life.... In the dog world a human that lives in fear is a human that cannot lead. If you want your dog to develop, be strong, resilient, courageous and happy you need to show leadership. Leadership is the key to a well balanced dog, not obedience training. Focusing on obedience only, has major flaws. Teaching a dog tricks is great but creating leadership is the ultimate!
03.01.2022 Kats 4 Dogs pack working brilliantly as a team. Why my class is crucial for dogs and their owner, the below is a list of things achieved. ~Trust... ~Leadership ~Focus with high level distraction ~Balance ~Coordination ~Confidence ~ Self-esteem ~ Mental & physical fitness ~ Bypassing ~ Resilience ~Relationship strengthening ~Social etiquette And FUN! and so much more..... Not just anybody gets to join my program. I’m selective for a reason! The video shows you why.
03.01.2022 Bear goes home tomorrow but in only 3 days this little man as gone from strength to strength. We did some confidence building work today, had his first swim is coming alone beautifully with his obedience, getting better with his separation anxiety, nailing the toilet training. We will be sad to see him go.
03.01.2022 Bear had a great night sleep, no crying and went from 9:45pm to 6:30pm. Then after his toilet we went straight into boundary work.
02.01.2022 Box stay challenge! Kats4Dogs pack are AWESOME
02.01.2022 80% leadership 20% obedience That’s what’s required to have a balanced dog.... If all you do is use treats to get your dogs to do things for you, at some point you will plateau out. The ultimate is your dog doing things because it wants to please you. Imagine your dog simply enjoying making you happy , wanting to please the leader. That’s the ultimate! Human psychology used in the dog world has its limitations. Best way is to use dog psychology on dogs...... it just makes more sense.
