24.01.2022 Later this week we're doing our second IG Live chat with A. J. Vrana Author, my friend and the author of two awesome dark contemporary fantasy books, The Hollow Gods and the forthcoming The Echoed Realm! Join us on IG as we chat about literary agents and the (dreaded?) querying process, share our experiences and answer YOUR questions! WHEN? If you're in North America, it's Wednesday, 25 November, 8-9pm EDT. If you're closer to Melbourne, that converts to Thursday, 26 November 12-1pm! (If there are particular topics about agents/querying you'd like us to cover, please comment below - and we'll also take questions via IG comments during the chat. Plus, both AJ and I will be giving away some goodies, so tune in!).

21.01.2022 WriteOnCon is on this weekend! This is my second time participating, and I always absolutely love the experience! This year I've recorded a vlog about querying agents (you can find it by searching the schedule) and also did a live workshop event "Get Inspired by Your Favorite Published Books" just a few hours ago - you can view the workshop recording but you do need an admission to access it (but the good news - it's very affordable): https://www.writeoncon.org/workshop-get-inspired-by-your-f/

20.01.2022 My February is full of events! This Friday, Feb 26 (CST) I'll be taking over my friend and fellow author Candace Robinson's group Candace's Pretty Monsters: https://www.facebook.com/groups/candacesprettymonsters/ What's to expect? This would be my second 'takeover' ever and based on previous experience, it'll be lots of fun :) I'm working on my posts and planning some unique giveaways, so please tune in when the time comes (join the group now not to miss out).

15.01.2022 I'm excited and very proud to have a short story included as part "The Only One in the World: A Sherlock Holmes Anthology" - coming next month! The idea behind this anthology is the question: what if Holmes and Watson came from a cultural background different from Conan Doyle’s London-centred Victorian/Edwardian England (and also what if they weren't white upper-class men). My contribution is "Solace Spring", a murder mystery taking place on a movie set during the perestroi...ka-era Russia, and told through multimedia/found objects. The beautiful cover for this Sherlockian collection, featuring portals into different worlds in which Sherlock and Watson as reimagined an 'anything but English', was created by award-winning author-illustrator Judith Rossell. You can read more about this anthology, its editor (the amazing Narrelle Harris) and contributors here: https://www.clandestinepress.net//the-only-one-in-the-worl And if you would like to support a small press publisher, Clan Destine Press, you can pre-order your copy of the anthology here: https://www.clandestinepress.net//the-only-one-in-the-worl

13.01.2022 The other day I had a chance to (virtually) sit down with Margot Harrison and chat about her writing path, book and dreams. Of particular interest to me was Margot's latest novel The Glare that focuses on how technology influences our lives. The eponymous 'Glare' in the book is a first-person shooter game from the dark web shrouded in unsettling mythology and terrifying lore (if you die thirteen times on level thirteen, you die in real life). Margot told me about the research... she did while working the Glare, learning about technologies that are designed to addict their users and about brain-computer interfaces. Have a read -and make sure you pick up a copy of The Glare (I loved it! It reminded me - thematically - of the recent TV show Upload, though The Glare is definitely on the spookier and more terrifying side of things!) (Also, I just realised that my interview with Margot is my 13th author interview - one of my lucky numbers, so worth mentioning here, especially in the context of the Glare's lore!) https://katyadebecerra.com//interview-with-margot-harriso/ #author #authorinterview #TheGlare #margotharrison #technology #braincomputerinterface #addictivedesign #gamedesign

10.01.2022 Just a timely reminder, folks, that on 26 Feb (CST) I'm taking over Candace Robinson's FB group Candace's Pretty Monsters! I'll chat about books and reveal a rare sneak peak about my short story in the forthcoming Sherlock Holmes anthology this year! There'll also be two giveaways for signed and personalised hardcovers of What The Woods Keep and Oasis, so join the group now so you don't miss out <3 (My Australian people - because this takeover is on CST time, for us this means the posts will go live in the middle of the night from Friday to Saturday, but the good news is I'll be keeping a look on my posts during the weekend, so nobody will miss out.) https://www.facebook.com/groups/candacesprettymonsters/

09.01.2022 I'm doing a livestream interview with @autocritediting tomorrow - for those in the AEST zone like myself that's Tuesday, 10 Nov at 8am (or, if EST is closer to your location that converts to Monday, 9 November 6pm EST). We'll chat all things writing and editing, but in particular the focus will be on OASIS and its journey from my 2014 NaNoWriMo project to its 2020 publication with Imprint/Macmillan. Can't wait to see you all there! Or you can catch up later with the video r...ecording. Here's the link for livestream/catch-up: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UChUCLZr9JRhrKNrmMkZ0mGw

05.01.2022 Today I’m excited to welcome Claire L. Smith to my site to chat about her debut horror novella Helena (out now with Clash Books you can find buy links in the end of the interview). Cover art for Helena About Helena: On the outskirts of London, 1855, mortician and funeral director Helena Morrigan struggles with her limited finances and the heavy burdens of her past.... https://katyadebecerra.com//interview-with-claire-l-smith/

03.01.2022 Thrilled to share this (with permission): a movie poster for #WhatTheWoodsKeep created by Lucas Helton (13 y.o. 7th grade) for independent reading class assignment. I'm in awe of this incredible talent & honoured that my work has served as an inspiration! WOW. Thank you, Lucas - for reading and for your art. It's always a special day for me to hear from my readers, but seeing them inspired by my writing to create something so amazing is a perfect bonus! I'll be sharing the v...ideo documenting the creative process in a separate post - check it out, so cool! [ID: a movie poster for What the Woods Keep showing a hand holding a necklace with three ravens in a circle, with a background of a road that leads deep into the woods; quotes from the book are included as well as a review saying "A great story for people who enjoy a mysterious, eerie tale, and for those who like an intense adventure"]

01.01.2022 If you've ever wondered what I sound like when reading my own work, the answer is here, only a click away... :) I've recorded this video of myself reading an excerpt from Oasis upon invitation from Des Moines Science Fiction & Fantasy Society - the recording is available for a limited time. (Just don't mind my complex facial expressions - I can't help it!) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R23unak1QiQ #authorreading #reading #katyadebecerra #Oasis #oasisnovel #DMSSFS #sciencefiction #fantasy #thriller
