25.01.2022 Last week our Humanities department welcomed special guests from the Kawana Waters RSL sub-branch to share their experiences of the Vietnam War with our Year 12 Modern History students. Maureen Javes served at Vung Tau as a nursing sister with the New Zealand Army and cared for casualties from the Tet Offensive and battles of Coral and Balmoral. Tony Creswick-Jackson was a national service infantryman and served with 6RAR and 9RAR in Vietnam. President of the Kawana Waters RSL sub-branch, Gary Penney also shared his valuable insights into life at the time and the experiences of veterans in Australia. These guests had some incredible stories to tell and helped the history we have read about in the text books become real. We look forward to welcoming them back again in the future!

We learnt how to think of others needs with a focus on building trust, rapport and teamwork. We practised using positive communication and encouragement through the Amazing Race activities. This involved stepping outside of our comfort zones, problem solving and fostering new friendships. This deepened our conversational skills necessary to be an effective leader whilst respecting the differences in others. The conclusion of the day was a powerful session of positive affirmation and recognition. An outstanding day was had by all.

The Senior Drama class have reimagined the story of Hamlet by setting it in a modern context and keeping true to the traditional language of Shakespeare. It was one of Shakespeare's most popular works during his lifetime and still ranks among his most performed.
