21.01.2022 **Important information regarding WATERSAFETY for TRAINING COURSES this season** With the restrictions around Covid we are very limited on the number of people... we are allowed to have in our Training Courses this season. The Trainers and Watersafety for each course are also included in this number. We love how so many of you jump in and help us out with watersafety for the Bronze and other courses we run, but until we are notified further, unfortunately we cannot have anyone doing watersafety unless they are a qualified and proficient Trainer or Assessor. If this changes at all, we will make sure any new information gets sent out.

19.01.2022 A Challenge has been set!!!! Patrol against Patrol, mate against mate. Let’s see which patrol can raise the most amount of money for our club. I have set up a raisley.com fundraising page for each patrol so we can see the tally rise and have a little bit of healthy competition. I have set the goal for each patrol team at $500 but would love to see you smash that and I can increase your goal. If all 13 patrols raise $500 that is $6,500 for our club. Raise money however you lik...e. Maybe you could get donations from friends, family or businesses. Maybe you could hold a cake stall, morning tea or dress up at work. Do you drink coffee each day? Maybe you could put your coffee money towards your contribution. Below are the pages for each Patrol. 14.01.2022 There was a incident out the front of the Surf Club Sunday afternoon where some of our Patrolling Members and Volunteers were involved to assist a young man hit by a car. An email has been received this morning from a neighbour who saw the incident and has commended our members. Feeling very proud of your members right now, well done. Hi Kawana Surf Club, I was one of the first responders today to the young man who hit his head seriously on Pacific Blvd while skateboarding. ...I live directly opposite the surf club and my 3 immediate thoughts upon seeing him lying on the road with blood pouring from his head were: 1. Call 000 2. Grab towels to stop the bleeding 3. RUN to the surf club to ask for lifeguards with First Aid training. Within seconds of my alerting one lifeguard, there were about 6 or more uniformed lifeguards attending to this young man. Whether it be providing a First Aid kit with gloves, attending to the young man or detouring traffic to protect him....they were absolutely amazing! There were also two amazing ladies who I believe were off duty nurses. I just wanted to reach out to all of the people that helped today from your surf club and say THANK YOU for being there so promptly and for being so helpful to this young man. I am certain he will have no idea of how many people were assisting him and surrounding him with love. Thank you, Your neighbour See more

12.01.2022 Dear Members Please read the information below carefully regarding the changes that have been made to the 2020/21 Skills Maintenance Theory and Practical Sessio...ns. Due to Covid we have had to make some changes to the 20/21 Skills Maintenance, as well as bringing in some strict regulations. Skills Maintenance will still be broken up into 2 sections (Theory and Practical), however the entire Theory section will be done Online through the SLSA Members Portal. This means that you will only have to physically attend ONE Session at the Surf Club. * * ONLINE THEORY: This season there are multiple sections to complete for the Online theory, these modules are: - Induction - Mental Health - Online Radio - Online Signals - Online Resuscitation - Tourniquets and Spinal Management - Theory Questions (Please note: - Radio Operators Award ONLY - you only need to complete the Induction, Online Radio, Online Signals and the Theory Questions. - Radio and First Aid/ART - you will need to complete ALL the modules) If you have not completed ALL the online modules that you need to complete by December 31st, you will NOT be signed off as a proficient member, and will not be able to participate in any surf lifesaving activities, including Training, Water-safety (including nippers), Patrols and Competitions). Once you have completed ALL the modules, please email your Theory Questions Certificate to Greera at [email protected]. * * PRACTICAL SESSION: All members MUST attend a 1 hour practical session at the surf club (this will be the only face-to-face session you must attend). The Practical Session will include CPR, Run-Swim-Run, Board Rescue and Tube Rescue. (Please Note: If you only have your radio operators you do NOT need to attend a practical session, however if you are a Radio Operator with First Aid or ART, you must attend a practical session). We will be running multiple 1 hour practical sessions over the course of the season. The first Skills Maintenance dates will be Saturday 19th September and Sunday 20th September. Due to Covid, until further notice we have strict number restrictions on these sessions with a MAXIMUM number of 15 participants allowed during each session time. Practical Session Times: (15 people MAXIMUM per session) Saturday 19th September: Session 1: 8am - 9am Session 2: 9am - 10am Sunday 20th September: IRB Proficiency: 9am - 10am Session 1: 10am - 11am Session 2: 11am - 12pm You MUST book into the session which you are attending. If you arrive on the day and are not booked in, you will be asked to leave, as it is very important that we follow all the rules around the number limits we have per session. To book into a Practical Session please contact Greera in the office at [email protected] or on 54448642. (If you have already booked into 2 different session times with Greera, please get in contact with her to let her know which 1 day and time you will be attending). Please ensure you bring to the Practical Session your Patrol Cap and Hi-Vis Singlet, as these must be worn when in the water, and that you sign-in on arrival. * * We appreciate your patience surrounding all the changes with Covid. We are trying our best to make sure everything is done correctly and that we are following all the new rules that have been put in place. If you are sick on the day of your practical session please let us know and stay home, please also make sure you sanitise when you arrive and leave. If anything changes or has to be cancelled due to Covid we will let know as soon as we can. We are also working on releasing the rest of the Skills Maintenance dates and other Training course dates as soon as we can. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to contact me at [email protected] Regards, Daneeka Kent Chief Training Officer Kawana Waters SLSC
