13.01.2022 KAWANA SENIOR RUGBY LEAGUE ANNOUNCEMENT -SEASON 2020 It is with a heavy heart that the Kawana Senior RLFC confirms that it will not be fielding teams in 2020. T...his was one of the hardest decisions we had to make and it was not a decision we took on lightly. We had to consider what was the best outcome for Kawana Senior Rugby League Club. Many weeks have been spent in meetings weighing up the pros and cons of getting our players back playing. Kawana Seniors, like other Senior Clubs in SCGRL, had to decide on whether to take part in the proposed revamped 2020 season. Option 1: Play a shortened 10wk season at a central venue (Sunshine Coast Stadium Precinct), under strict COVID restrictions which included only 100 people at the venue at once (this figure includes players, coaching staff, referees & volunteers), the club providing volunteers for each game, no use of the dressing rooms/shower/strapping room facilities, and teams needing to leave the venue as soon as their game was completed. The season would not end until mid-Oct under the current proposed start/finish dates. Essentially this means no-spectator involvement and no revenue-raising for the club via the usual avenues (gate, bar, canteen) which pay for all our game-day expenses. Option 2 is the same shortened season, played at home/away venues, under the same strict COVID restrictions of 100 per venue (again meaning no spectators and no revenue, but all the usual expenses), PLUS a giant list of compliance requirements that the club and committee would need to adhere to or be held personally responsible if any of those requirements were breached. Option 3 was to not play Senior Rugby League in 2020 and return bigger than ever in 2021. Kawana Seniors appreciates the effort and work by SCGRL in trying to establish a competition. We analyzed all situations from a social, financial, and logistical perspective and decided that playing this season was not viable for our Club. We would like to thank our committed playing group, Dedicated Coaching staff, first aid staff, and our amazing Volunteers who had shown loyalty and patience in what has been a very challenging couple of months. We would like to thank our Sponsors- Local businesses that have stayed by our side during these challenging times. - Dunemann Constructions, HY-TEC Concrete, Bradnam's Windows & Doors, Sunshine Coast Air Conditioning Services, ST Joinery, Helloworld Travel Kawana, One Up Bar Mooloolaba, Tom Hearn Painting, Rugs N Rats, All Pool Inspections, Kawana Waters Hotel, Silly Solly's Kawana We also want to thank Sunshine Coast Stadium and their staff for all their help and ongoing support. Our focus now is to help our players, supporters, sponsors, and community to get through these tough times We see this as an opportunity to focus on being "Bigger, Better, Stronger" for next season. BRING ON THE 2021 SEASON!! Thank You, KRL Executive See more
