25.01.2022 It is more important that ever to check on those around us. This year, R U OK Day is teaching us what to say after RU OK? It’s not always easy to keep the conversation going when someone says they’re not OK, but it could change someone's life The Kawana Chamber will always have an open ear, a shoulder to lean on, and time for a conversation for their members and those in need. Together, we are stronger!... "By starting a conversation and commenting on the changes you’ve noticed, you could help that family member, friend or workmate open up. If they say they are not ok, you can follow our conversation steps to show them they’re supported and help them find strategies to better manage the load. If they are ok, that person will know you’re someone who cares enough to ask." To find out more, visit www.ruok.org.au
24.01.2022 The Kawana Chamber has gained an incredibly valuable and fantastic business partnership, with H2H Studios coming on board as official sponsors! 23.01.2022 Do you have an unused mobile in your ‘bottom draw’? Bring it along to our Combined Chamber Christmas Celebration on Thursday night and rehome it in the best way possible by donating it into the DV Safe Phone donation box! Our amazing member, Ashton Wood, launched DV Safe Phone to get unused mobiles into the hands of victims of domestic violence.... The mobile phones is often one of the first items to be thrown, broken or stolen during domestic violence, leaving the victim cut off from the outside world, with no way to call emergency services or helplines for assistance. This lifechanging campaign redistributes working mobile phones to victims of domestic violence, through registered not-for-profit charity Red Rose Foundation Australia, who have existing relationships with domestic violence agencies, safe houses, crisis centres and volunteers Australia-wide So, if you have a mobile that’s collecting dust, do something great this Christmas and donate to DV Safe Phones. If every member bought one or two old phones, we will collect 100’s on the night! *Please drop your old phone to the DV Safe Phone donation box at the Combined Chamber Christmas Celebration.* To find out more about the project ‘DV Safe Phone’ please visit http://www.dvsafephone.org For information about the Red Rose Foundation please visit http://www.redrosefoundation.com.au/ #kawanabiz #DVSafePhone

03.01.2022 At our final breakfast for the year we bring together four businesses who have gone over and above to implement strategies that place local front and centre and who pride themselves on being locally focused Together they will share strategies for your business success and real-life examples of how focusing on supporting each other has serious return on investment! Join us as we talk to James McGovern, Co-Founder of The Good Place Aus.... Buying into his first franchise at age 19, James McGovern’s business experience far surpasses his young age. Working at Red Rooster throughout his early teens, James quickly rose through the ranks of the Australian fast food chain and by 2007, he purchased his first store for just $1. Under James’ direction, the store that was losing more than $100k a year turned a new corner and was able to gain surplus. In recognition of this incredible feat, James was awarded Red Rooster’s New South Wales Franchisee of the Year in 2008 - at just 20 years of age. After selling this store in 2011, James went on to work as a business consultant aiding various food and retail chains throughout the eastern seaboard of Australia. During this time he founded his passion for wholefoods, diving into niche chains that fostered healthy communities throughout Australia. However, James’ impressive business repertoire isn’t just built on success, through a failed restaurant endeavour James learnt a valuable lesson of resilience, and to this day, credits his focus on community and ethics to this failed venture. Having moved away from a pure focus on commerce and profits, in 2018, James co-founded The Good Group with celebrity chef and close friend, Scott Gooding. Consisting of The Good Place cafes and restaurants as well as The Good Feed ready meals, The Good Group focuses on a circular economy emphasising health, community and the environment. As the cafe franchise list expands and demand for the ready meals increases, this unique business model remains focussed on creating a positive impact on the communities it surrounds. Every business philosophy behind The Good Place has a local focus, from where they source their produce, their involvement in community gardens, supporting local events, instigating beach cleans (with coffee, of course). James is a perfect example of what you can do to position your business for success. James also recently joined the Kawana Chamber Committee and we look forward to sharing him with you.
