21.01.2022 Are you coming?....Looking forward to catching up with our KF community Sunday. See FB events for details. Thanks McGrath Caloundra for sponsoring the free Hawaiian Shaved Ice.
21.01.2022 Ken Cross from Australian Birding Safaris gave his early Sunday morning to help track the birdlife in our forest. 31 bird species were heard and/or seen today. The Golden Whistlers were very active & Grey Shrike Thrush were singing. This brings the total identified in the past 2 years to over 40 species. We hope to use this education to inform our ClimateWatch Trail that we are establishing. So cool to see a Royal Spoonbill, alongside an Intermediate and Great Egrets in the wetlands.
21.01.2022 Got plans on Saturday? The 8th annual clean up for the hatchlings is an early 6am start, but guarantees to be very rewarding, it finishes with a free BBQ breakfast and prizes back at LaBalsa park at 8am. Lots of locations to choose from (register via link). So grab some mates or the family and help protect our loggerheads and green turtles. https://fb.me/e/1Q6T3buSG
20.01.2022 Frogs were very busy in the reserve near Lemonwood St last night . May need to turn the volume up. Would anyone know the frog types that can be heard?
19.01.2022 We have arranged a special Saturday morning walk through the forest. Meet at 7am at Whitebeech/Lemonwood pathway. Due to recent rain the walk will be modified. Please wear older enclosed shoes, insect repellent and bring your phone (with the ClimateWatch App downloaded). We hope a few children accompany parents for this activity as part of our April Holiday Activities.
18.01.2022 We may see some smoke over the next few days depending on wind.
18.01.2022 Request has been put to SCC for potholes to be filled in White Cedar & Kurrajong. Please advise if there are others that also need repair.
16.01.2022 Please be aware when walking and riding that this tree is dangerously poised over the Kawana Forest pathway. A request for this tree (east of Tulipwood) and other branches to be cleared will be put into SCC this morning. Other trees are down, though not over the pathway.
16.01.2022 What a great day and turn out yesterday Thank you to the community, Jarrod Bleijie MP & Cr Peter Cox - Division 3 for your support. We look forward to another great year as the new executive committee.

16.01.2022 If you've been thinking of getting a street tree, but concerned at the slow rate of growth.....check out 12months growth of this Brush Box. The support stakes that towered over the new planting are now half the tree height. SCC said the stakes should stay in place for 2 years. After all this rain, the newly planted trees in Kawana Forest will certainly have a growth spurt.
14.01.2022 HELP passing on a message from a resident Vicky: a baby bird that has fallen out of its nest and cannot fly yet in woodlands park by the path. Wildlife rescue suggest putting it back up the tree onto a branch but this will require a ladder. Is anyone available today to do this. Vicky can show someone where it is if they want to give her a call. 0458022328 Thank you.
14.01.2022 We have 6 people who have registered their interest in establishing a Kawana Forest Bushcare group. We need a minimum of 12 people, to make application to the Sunshine Coast Council, to form a group. If you're thinking about it.... Please register your interest by Friday 26th March. Cheers! https://www.facebook.com/182953272201024/posts/1074800826349593/

12.01.2022 Kurrajong Park Shelter Refurbishment: Please be advised shelter refurbishment works are due to commence by Sunshine Coast Council on Monday 14 September at Kurrajong Park. Scope of works include, removal of timber battens, installation of a custom roof, repainting and treating the shelter structure. Works should be completed within one (1) week weather permitting and access to the shelter will be closed off for the duration of the construction period.... Thanks, Cr Peter Cox - Division 3 for the heads up and for maintaining this beautiful area.
11.01.2022 Hi Kawana Forest Residents’ Association members The Sunshine Coast Council is working to establish a number of ClimateWatch trails in the region, including one being established in the Kawana Forest trail network. ClimateWatch was developed to better understand the effects that climate change is having on our earth's natural processes. It is anticipated that the official launch of the Kawana Forest ClimateWatch trail will occur later this year. The concept of the ClimateWatch... trail is based on community-based observers (FaunaWatch members, bush care groups, community groups, anyone from the public) recording observations of plant and animal species. (No experience needed.) Ideally, we want to identify and include species (not necessarily native) that may have seasonal variations, e.g. plants flowering in spring, dropping leaves in autumn; birds mating, nesting, at different times of the year, etc. This is so we can record and identify potential changes in phenology (the study of cyclic and seasonal natural phenomena, especially in relation to climate and plant and animal life) over extended periods of time. Please download the ClimateWatch App (https://www.climatewatch.org.au/mobile) and join Sameer Punde (Sunshine Coast Council) and other locals as we walk the proposed trail. The purpose is to reaffirm the proposed trail (route) and identify species, mapping the trail against the ClimateWatch species list and identify other species we should include. Check out the ClimateWatch website (http://www.climatewatch.org.au/trails) for further information. Date: Tuesday 8 September Time: 3:00pm-5:00pm Meeting place: Whitebeech St / Lemonwood St Junction You are advised to bring your device with the ClimateWatch App already downloaded and wear insect repellent and appropriate footwear for the often muddy pathway. It would be appreciated if you could RSVP to [email protected] or phone 0417000586, so we can ensure COVID-19 protocols are in place. Cheers Paul Williamson KAFRA ClimateWatch Trail Sub-Committee

04.01.2022 If you are a strong supporter for a bus servicing our estate and more frequent services throughout the Sunshine Coast and free travel for students. (Plus you don’t want to see Nicklin Way reduced by one lane each way). See what the beach matters group is proposing. Plus join the beach matters group to ensure your voice is heard as community consultation was due to get under way 30 March. https://www.facebook.com/groups/639923319895241/?ref=share

04.01.2022 Thanks for the great response to our Bus Survey. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/J7Z563R In the past, we have been told we don't have the demand needed for a bus service or need to prove we have demand. Clearly based on survey feedback we have very strong demand. So if you haven't yet completed our survey please do so today. For those that desperately need this bus service and have already completed the survey, make sure that you speak to your neighbours and friends within the estate as they may not have Facebook. #bettertogether
03.01.2022 This is great news for our residents and for the local sporting clubs. Thank you for listening and acting on our feedback and needs Cr Peter Cox - Division 3
02.01.2022 The guided Climate Watch walk through Kawana Forest has been cancelled on Tuesday, due to the length of grass and now trees over the pathway. Requests have been forwarded to SCC.

02.01.2022 There are only 15 remaining spaces available for the Cupcake Decorating at Kurrajong Park on Saturday. See the event for details. We will also be encouraging participants to design their own decoration on another cupcake. There will be games available for the children to play from 3pm-5pm.

01.01.2022 Update: Our pathways were quickly cleared from trees after the storms. The trees down on the forest trail and environs have been logged, but understandably are not as high on the priority list. There is a warning sign and the trail is not accessible at the present time. We'll advise when cleared. Finally, thank you SCC staff for restaining the seats (to cover previous graffiti) and for trimming plants to make area accessible for residents.
