25.01.2022 Experimenting with mark making using 2 inks, tea and goethite watercolour. No brushes used. The pink scourer ( which doesn't scour) has fabulous texture, the end of the cotton reel makes great circles, palette knife makes solid areas/spreads other marks, stick and Callistemon 'brush' make lovely linear patterns and the pipe cleaners as not as useful as expected but was good at holding ink for drawing. The green texture tool wouldn't hold much paint. #creativeelementschallenge

22.01.2022 Succulent study using yesterday's palette. Tap photo for better view.

21.01.2022 Challenged myself to use green which is not a favourite colour of mine. There are however some lovely greens. I am also loving blowing the paint around. It is amazing that I can make art with my breath as well as my hands.

18.01.2022 Challenging myself to see what I can do with these gold cards. They are roughly 2" X 3".

17.01.2022 Day 96 Back to Cascade green and Rose of Ultramarine plus a blue.

16.01.2022 Loose floral watercolour and ink. A4 size.

15.01.2022 I have just finished a 100 day art challenge with Ladysmith Waterfront Gallery in Ladysmith, British Columbia, Canada! I posted a piece of art everyday for the last 100 days. It is a wonderful discipline to.paint or create daily. Ladysmith will have an online exhibition soon. They represent some fabulous artists if you are looking for some art to buy. Here is my final piece painted using some of my favourite colours and marks.

12.01.2022 Some new journal pages for an artist swap.

12.01.2022 'Growing through the cracks' (although today I feel like it is more squeezing with great difficulty!) I am enjoying limited colour palettes and trying to paint very light tones. Burnt Umber, Jayne's Grey and Perylene Maroon.

12.01.2022 Inner peace. A5 watercolour and pen on paper.

09.01.2022 "Scribbly Gum". Painting where I live. Goethite and Raw umber only. If you don't know what a scribbly gum is search Google images!

06.01.2022 Backgrounds using my colour palettes from a few days ago.. #creativeelementschallenge

04.01.2022 How does your garden grow? A5 Watercolour and pen. This is just 2 colours, Daniel Smith Perylene Maroon and Payne's Grey. The possibilities with watercolour are amazing.

03.01.2022 Another watercolour where I started pale, blew puddles of strong colour and wondered 'What if I add leaves?' Didn't look quite right. Smaller puddles blown with a straw work best I think. Added darker tones but think I overworked it. I like the top 2/3s though. Oh well, back to the painting board..

02.01.2022 Playing with 3 colours. Variations on 2 complementary colours plus a tone. Dan Smith Burnt Sienna, Phthalo Blue and Payne's Grey. It is easier to paint fine line with some pigments!

02.01.2022 What an interesting exercise. After someone asked what paints I use today because they liked the colour, I decided to paint with my dye based Kohinoor watercolours vs Daniel Smith. The dye particles are smaller and dissolve in the water whereas the pigments suspend and need a binder to keep them together. A bit like salt dissolving in water vs pebbles. I painted a similar piece with each. The dye based paints were so easy and allowed me to paint very fine lines. I used the Dan Smith after and the fine lines were much harder with the same brush. It was indeed like the heavier pigment particles just wanted to flow off the brush! The Dan Smith is on the left. The dye based watercolours are not as lightfast and not suitable for professional work. I use them for small books and journals that don't get exposed to light as much.
