11.01.2022 Benefits of physical activity . Regular physical activity can boost your physical and mental health. The benefits of exercise include: .... - increases insulin sensitivity, reducing blood glucose levels and reducing the risk of type 2 diabetes. - Increases the strength of your muscles, bones and joints, reducing the risk of osteoporosis. - Reduces LDL (bad) cholesterol. - Improves energy levels and improves sleep quality. - Improves libido. - Improves mood, decreases stress hormones, anxiety and depression. - Decreases blood pressure, and reduces the risk of heart attack and stroke. - Weight loss/management. . Health professionals recommend 30 minutes a day of physical activity to see improvements in your health and well-being. So my tip of the day - find an activity that you enjoy! You won’t want to be active if you force yourself to run, when you hate running! . Whether you enjoy walking the dog, going on a hike to a new destination, splashing in the water at the beach, or dancing around the living room! . Get outdoors, get moving and your body will love you for it #physicalactivity #exercise #health #healthbenefits #outdoors #wellness #wellbeing #preventativehealth #holistichealth #naturalhealth #naturopath #diabetes #stressmanagement #mentalhealth

09.01.2022 I’m going to give you a few reasons as to why kale is so good for you Kale (Brassica oleracea) is an ancient member of the cabbage (cruciferous) family. Kale was historically consumed due to it being a rich source of minerals and sulphur. In Europe, the consumption of kale was encouraged during WWII due to it’s high nutrient content. Kale is a rich source of fibre, calcium, iron, magnesium, potassium, folate, vitamin C, vitamin E, vitamin K, beta-carotene, chlorophyll, caro...tenoids and glucosinolates. What does all this mean? It means its bloody good for you!! The phytonutrients of kale encourage liver detoxification, giving your liver a helping hand eliminating toxins and potential carcinogens. Enhancing liver detoxification will also help your liver metabolise hormones, so if you’re struggling with hormonal conditions such as diabetes, period pain, acne, PMS breast tenderness/pain/moods and bloating - then your liver may need some help! Please note: The nutritional status will decrease with exposure to heat, so to get the most benefit, it is best to eat kale raw. However, if you simply cannot resist cooking it, then lightly blanching it is the way to go.

04.01.2022 How to improve your immunity - part one. During these uncertain times our best defence is to try to boost the immune system. Boosting your immune system will reduce your risk of getting sick, but in the event that you do fall ill, the practices you have put in place to enhance your immunity will reduce the severity of your symptoms, and reduce the duration of the illness. Today's tip: eat plenty of garlic! ... Garlic (Allium sativum) has potent antiviral, antimicrobial, antibacterial and antioxidant properties. Meaning that it enhances your immunity and helps your body to fight off any viruses and infections. Include garlic in your meals to get some extra garlic into your diet. Garlic’s immunity enhancing properties are most potent when it is consumed raw, so it is best to add raw garlic to your meals at the end of cooking.
