20.01.2022 Latest review for KAYLA "Affinity", that is a perfect word to use when talking about Fran Cairns work. It started with her first work "Drawing from the Well". There she opened a desert vista so real you could smell it, this time its water. As a woman so intuned to nature herself she writes with a sensual intensity that the experiences become visceral for us. It will be hard for many to see water in quite the same way again. She allows us into her characters on such an intermate level that their experiences become ours and I can't wait for book 2. It is easy to become emotionally invested in Kayla, and you will want to be present for her journey wherever it may take her. - Jennifer Powell

08.01.2022 I am excited to share this wonderful new review for KAYLA - Book One from Rod Moss celebrated Central Australian Artist & Writer "Kayla's journey carries us thr...ough diverse Australian climatic conditions with complete conviction. The narrator's voice is swift, sure and commands a poetic eye equipped for both inner and outer travel. Water. What could be more essential to life? Kayla has been gifted and tutored to respond to the assaults we've made on the most precious resource of this driest of continents. To redress the imbalance seems nigh impossible. Yet her actions inspire as does the defiant tenderness that moves us through these pages." 07.01.2022 Very heartening to receive these words from a reader of KAYLA. "Thank you for your gift of Kayla. It was late in the evening when I discovered your novella and I read till the wee hours of the morning, immediately picking it up again on waking - and then re-reading. It resonates still. I felt fully immersed in her senses and perceptions and felt so connected to the exquisite poetry of yours. Your language is so evocative Fran, rich, achingly beautiful and superbly descriptive.... Your insights & sensitivity of water itself, made me feel like I was bathing in a new understanding for which you had now given a voice." 06.01.2022 Excerpt from Chapter One KAYLA - Book One: "Stories flowed from the older woman of her young life in a village set upon rocky cliffs, entirely dependent on fishing, and weather, and sheer determination. Woven between were stranger tales of deep, dark places and creatures, of beings capable of spell making and other unworldly ways. Sometimes, as her Nan spoke, Kayla would shiver as she recognised images from her own dreaming. Little things like the way the light played in the woods or the sparkle of sun through the water. Other times her Nan would tell of murky inhabited depths, affirming the sense in Kayla that behind everything, something or someone was there, waiting, watching and her Nan knew it too.
