25.01.2022 Looking for a equine massage therapist? Hi, I’m Karen, Equine Sports Massage therapist based in the Huon Valley. Starting in September I will be travelling north once a month and will be available for massage bookings on the way up to and around Launceston. I’m also available regularly a couple of days a week in the Huon Valley and Hobart area

21.01.2022 This week I started a new journey... I’m diving into learning massage on humans with a Diploma of Remedial Massage! I’m really looking forward to deepening my understanding and feel in this wonderful modality.

20.01.2022 Today, I was working on a podcast episode coming out at the end of this month, on rehabbing lameness through proper movement, biomechanics, and dynamic balance.... One of the concepts we kept coming back to was the idea of the aesthetics of the hoof. So often, we want to see these perfectly symmetrical feet as a standard for hoof health. We might even try to tell the foot how to get there, or force it to be where we want it- we remove what we think doesn't fit with our ideas of how the foot should look. Pete Ramey once told me something along the lines of "too many horses are trimmed for a perfect social media photo, to the detriment of their comfort." Sometimes, I think this might be true, whether we realize it or not! The horse will let us know if what we are doing to their feet is working or not... And that doesn't mean if the hoof LOOKS better, but if the horse is more comfortable and more sound. A hoof might grow in a way that "looks odd," but helps the horse compensate for conformational issues, past injuries, or internal pathology. We can make feet look pretty all day long, but if the horse is sore, we haven't helped at all. Watch the horse move. Look for comfort, good balanced landings, and better relaxed body movement. Because in the end, the horse is the final judge.

20.01.2022 KBD stands for Kallenia Bo Daw (pictured here). My four legged best friend for 20+ years. My love and appreciation of horses grew deep with him, and through KBD Equine my hope is to share that love with your horses. I currently offer equine sports massage. Simply put, sports massage helps your horse regain, and maintain his freedom of movement. With that freedom of movement comes improved performance, comfort, and enjoyment, whatever your discipline. I service the Huon Valley, and also travel up through Hobart and surrounds. Due to the Corvid-19 restrictions I am currently only available on weekends.

20.01.2022 Yep. It’s starting... This Spring my goal is to give a massage, talk, and NOT get a mouthful of hair Seriously though.

16.01.2022 Do you know what you’re horse’s normal temperature, heart rate and respiratory rate is? Here’s a good how to clip if you’re not sure how to take your horse’s vitals. Important to know if your horse becomes unwell, and for tracking your horse’s fitness when working through a conditioning program. ... Note: 99-101 Fahrenheit = 37.2 - 38.3 Celsius

15.01.2022 Sun, Parelli, and a full body massage. Not a bad way to spend the day with my boy Joey
