07.01.2022 There are special times in our lives when our passion and our purpose synchronise and our why becomes crystal clear and it make us sit up and realise just how b...lessed we are. This weekend at the HMA Karate KBI Black Belt grading was one of those moments for me. Now as you all know I’ve been fortunate to oversee thousands of gradings and assist in a small way for students achieving goals and milestones, they are all very special and rewarding in their own unique way. This one was clearly unprecedented, this group had started their Black Belt year in January with a goal to be achieved in July, and then COVID-19! They were locked out of their Dojo for 4.5 months. This is where the culture and community of this Dojo supported each other and ensured they were ready to go in November. Their resilience, perseverance and determination was evident throughout the 6.5 hour straight grading, again thanks Covid for my limited flight options eliminating the chance of a two day assessment. The candidates were Mums, Dads, sons and daughters, families of 5 + ages ranged from 10 to 50’s! Senseis and Senseis in training were all on the floor. All digging deep and boosting each other when needed. Like I said earlier it was special! But what makes it more special for me is the Shihan that drives this group of amazing Karateka is my lifelong best friend and cousin Daniel Spice. What he has achieved over the decades in the Hawkesbury is remarkable and I could not be prouder. So there you go, sorry for such a long post but after the year we’ve had I needed to share some good news to inspire those who may need a boost. See more
