22.01.2022 You're an excellent communicator. [ Aren't you? ] Communication comes in so many styles! I was working with a client recently, who is highly experienced with a specialist area of expertise. We were working to create his company overview or capability statement. Essentially this is the resume of his business. Through the process of him explaining the technical areas of his business and me simplifying the wording and including some emotive language to elicit positive feelings i...n his readers, I was reminded how complex communication really is. Effective communication needs consideration of content, context and delivery. Looking at my clients example. - Without explaining complex processes using basic language, potential new clients may be baffled by industry or profession specific terminology. - Without emotive language and descriptions, specific feelings and imagery may not be elicited in the reader. - Without professionalism and expertise demonstrated, there will be no credibility. So what does this mean for you? Truly being a good communicator requires adaptability in communication style. Strong social and emotional intelligence, that is, being aware of the impact your communication has on others and how they are reacting to you, is vital. Then, making changes on the fly if direct communication is happening, to ensure your audience* is engaged and finding meaning in what you are saying. *Audiences could be a single customer, a friend or family member, a colleague, your target market or a room of 2000 people. No-one wants to feel stupid, or bored, or that theyre being given irrelevant information. In the depths of the information age, we tend to be selective with what communication we allow to penetrate our brains. When communicating next think about whether you, - Know your audience - Choose an appropriate approach - Assess your impact - Adapt if need be Make your communication efforts transfer meaning to your audience.
22.01.2022 7 ways to pep up at 3pm When you are 6 hours in and the last 2 hours are dragging on, try these tricks. Give 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6 a go before you get to 7. 1. Munch an apple. Fresh and crisp, natural sugars and gets that hand to mouth action happening.... 2. Drink a large glass of water. Often dehydration causes tired eyes and fatigued brains. 3. Take a short walk. Give your eyes a break from your computer, or whatever you are concentrating on, and your legs a stretch. 4. Stretch on the spot. Reach up as high as you can with both arms. Reach out with both arms. Arms by your side. Repeat 5 times. 5. Take 10 slow deep breaths. Focusing, hunching over, or slouching can reduce our air flow through shallow breathing. Fill your lungs and body with oxygen. 6. Nibble nuts and dried fruit. Protein, good fats, natural sugar and other nutrients can give your brain the fuel it needs to get through a couple more hours. 7. Have a coffee. Of course, avoiding tonnes of sugar, having fresh coffee over instant and drinking water as well are good choices, but some days you gotta do what you gotta do! And while youre at it, ENJOY it.
22.01.2022 People of Cloncurry - this is on next month. Most of us have done some sort of first aid training at some point but have you considered mental health first aid!?
22.01.2022 ~Waves~ KBR is still alive and well ... just quiet. On social media anyways. Having been inundated with work and great opportunities to support a range of people and businesses of late, is wonderful. Just means theres not much time for any socials. So many learnings I have stored up in the back of my mind that Id love to share, but until theres a break in the "can you help with this" and "can you help with that" phone calls and emails, they will have to stay milling around in the back of my brain. A quick lesson that Ive learnt amongst the busyness of business lately, is, that once your heart is in the right place and you are genuinely open to helping others with whatever good or service you are offering, the flood gates open.
22.01.2022 Whats better than a jam donut? The Director of the company Im working for sent me a donut today - home delivered! Super thoughtful. I took a (really awful) photo of myself, pouncing on that donut. I felt a bit self conscious but sent it anyway with the caption "lost all professionalism once the donut arrived - thank you". I hoped it would portray my appreciation. He replied "Close your mouth when you chew feral". I burst out laughing, in my home office with my half eaten ...donut. The real uninhibited connection, the quick banter, the laughter was by far the best part of the act of kindness. It reminded me how important that human interaction is in the current times. Remember to connect in with your staff, your colleagues and even your boss while were all alone, working from home. See if you can make them laugh, or even just smile! #actofkindness #leadership #humanconnection #socialisation #team #workingfromhome

17.01.2022 ~Feedback~ The most amazing gift, when someone takes the time to help you grow and develop by sharing their feedback or suggestions. I graciously accepted some feedback today from one of my clients, after a brainstorming session, he took the time to draw my attention to the speed at which I talk, which can be challenging to keep up with. Criticism, even if it is constructive and well meaning can be hard to hear. Focusing on the courage and generosity of the benefactor can g...o a long way in cultivating positivity around someone essentially pointing out your downfalls. What feedback have you been offered that was hard to hear?

06.01.2022 Not responding really is rude! During the week I worked with some lovely business trainees improving professionalism, employability and discussed general workplace behaviours and expectations. One of the things I find interesting being part of this project, is going back to the basics of what does being a good employee mean. Lesson #17 Respond to emails! ... An acknowledgement, a thank you, a yes I can do that, recieved and actioned. This is a common courtesy that is important to point out to those entering the workforce in administrative roles and something that can sadly go by the way side as professionals ego and status swells. Funnily enough I had a personal experience of an ignored email this week after sharing the importance of this simple courtesy with the trainees. It cemented in my mind that for the most part, emails are no different to a face to face conversation, where a non-response to a question or offering would simply be considered bad manners. What other fundamentals for business professionalism would you share with a business trainee, or yourself if you could travel back to when you first entered the workforce?

02.01.2022 Swapping slippers for heels and good vibes. This year most of my clients have been 1500 to 4000 kms away. I am constantly grateful for current technology and the ability to work remotely, without compromising on service for my clients. And of course the opportunity to work in sweat pants and slippers! But yesterday it was a nice change to start work on an amazing project with a local business. Collaborating through zoom is great, but being in the same room as others, feeling their passion for genuinely making a positive difference to others, is next level greatness!!
02.01.2022 We most often choose local for services and groceries but sometimes forget about shopping local for the likes of gifts, clothes & homewares. 01.01.2022 Welcome to 2021! A belated happy new year but after a crazy busy 2020, this year will include some better work-life balance. If you need help applying for a new job better suited to your new years resolutions (with a stand-out resume)... to take a load off by recruiting staff for your small business or with guidance to support your staff with work life balance programs, policies and procedure writing or other business developments ... Just ask! Ask for what you need (or if you aren't sure what you just, just sing out for help!) ! In achieving our goals of work life balance, asking for help when its needed will most certainly be required. Doing it alone rarely equates to balance. Let's do 2021 together.
