25.01.2022 The beaches. Home to critically endangered shorebirds.

25.01.2022 Very slow recovery after the bushfires of early December, on Nundera/Shell point.?

25.01.2022 So wonderful to see cultural burning available to landholders after this seasons terrible bushfires.

24.01.2022 Happy New Year 2021 from the Kioloa Coastal Campus. Usually at this time of year our Discovery Days are held. It has been a much loved event and well frequented over the last twenty years. For those people who have missed the Beach Microscopy, Star Gazing, Animals of the night, Insect Walks, Botanical Drawing, Archaeological Digs, Geology walks and evening talks this year, I thought I would share some memories from years gone by for you to reminisce on.

24.01.2022 The Kioloa Coastal Campus office is now open for business. Please contact the office for information regarding reopening of the KCC for clientel. Thank you for your patience during this difficult time.

23.01.2022 A bit of history.....

22.01.2022 What an unusual start to the year. Whilst working from home I thought I would share some of Lara Arnott's wonderful photos of the regeneration after the recent bushfires and the Axe Grinding grooves (one of the many culturally significant sites at Kioloa). Although I am working remotely we are still taking future bookings which are filling fast. If you would like to make a future booking please email us at [email protected] we would love to hear from you.

19.01.2022 Nundera/Shell point dunes trying to recover after last Decembers bushfire however so much will not !

19.01.2022 Farewell Andrea For those of you that have had dealings with the Kioloa Coastal Campus office you would know Andrea well. During her time at the ANU Kioloa Coastal Campus she has organised several of the open day events, curated the Arthur London Anniversary exhibition and enjoyed connecting with many and varied groups in her administrative role, always with a smile. Andrea is leaving us to build her business in Initiatic Art therapy. We wish her well in all her endeavours.

19.01.2022 ANU Kioloa Coastal Campus would like to welcome Shane Paul as the new site Manager. His prior position was at Siding Spring Observatory so I’m sure he will be enjoying the sea breeze. We are delighted to welcome you to the team and are excited about your input and contributions moving forward. Shane comes to Kioloa with his wife and young family.

19.01.2022 Farewell Tristin. For those people who have had dealings with the Kioloa Coastal Campus office you would know Tristin quite well. Last month Tristin decided to resign to study and persue a new career. We wish her well with her studies and will miss her impeccable organisational skills and beaming smile in our office. Goodluck from the Kioloa team.

18.01.2022 Some more historic photos from the Arthur London Collection for those that missed the exhibition of the 90th Anniversary of London settlement at Kioloa

16.01.2022 Christmas 1994. Steven with Joy London at the Kioloa Fire Station.

14.01.2022 Steven and I searched for the sea eagles nest this afternoon. We are really delighted to tell you that the eagles are rebuilding in the original tree. Lots of recent white wash around the tree base was the first sigh of alot of activity.

14.01.2022 The sea eagles have begun nesting again in Prossers Gully after the awful bushfires of 2019 and 2020. They have been nesting here for over 40 years.

13.01.2022 In the strange Covid 19 times, students and staff from the Fenner School of Enviroment and Society have adapted to the circumstances very well by using technology to share virtual field trip experiences of Kioloa. Thanks to Louise, Jamie, Joe and the whole ENVS1001 team for sharing the link below and for the wonderful armchair experience. https://www.youtube.com/playlist

13.01.2022 KCC Discovery Day memory Some photos of the Arthur London African Collection exhibition that was held in 2018 at Kioloa Coastal Campus to celebrate 90 years of London settlement at Kioloa . It was such a privilege to be able to curate this exhibition.

12.01.2022 S.E.LOW - dropped 160+ mm of rain. Flooding, building damage. The wind was blasting at times with such force coming at right angles. Nothing escapes the damage. Trees and branches down on the KCC. So different to the recent violent bushfires. Typical for the south coast!

11.01.2022 The idea of a development in this critical section of bush in the fire devasted Manyana, also is the home to many threatend species, such as the greater glider and the swift parrot. Scientists please help.

10.01.2022 What a wonderful achievement. Congratulations are well derserved after 20 years of research.

08.01.2022 Before the fires and the pandemic I used to enjoy leading these drawing workshops at Kioloa ANU open day first week of every new year! It feels weird not being ...there this year. Looking forward to another one soon! @ouranu @anuartdesign @scienceanu #kioloacoastalcampus ANU Kioloa Coastal Campus See more

07.01.2022 Murramarang Community Garden looking good. The garden is located at the ANU Kioloa Coastal Campus. Due to the Covid 19 lockdown strict measures have been put in place to adhere to social distancing etc. Members of the garden now have 40 rostered spots, with volunteers working on their own plots as well as the communual area. Well done.

06.01.2022 Have you ever wondered why one of the Kioloa Coastal Campus's bunkhouses is called Kumasi? Joy London's property (now Known as the ANU Kioloa Coastal Campus) was generously gifted to the ANU in 1975. This gift honoured her mother Edith and still today the Edith and Joy London Foundation board members are active in managing decisions regarding the property. Edith was Joy's mother, and her father was Arthur London. Arthur was employed by a west African trading company on the Gold Coast ( now Ghana) before locating to Kumasi in the Ashanti Region. So next time you stay at the campus in Kumasi you will know a little of the rich history behind the name.

05.01.2022 Floods after the fires here....3rd east coast low this weekend. Not as violent as the last one 2 weeks ago however still lots of rain 125mm so far.

04.01.2022 Please watch the ABC video. Excellent viewing.

04.01.2022 Some photos from the archive. I had a request to post some photos of the construction phase of the wonderful straw bale building called the London Shed at the Kioloa Coastal Campus. Such a credit to manager Steven Teding van Berkhout and the Team involved.

03.01.2022 Flooding after fires

02.01.2022 Currently the Kioloa Coastal Campus is temporarily closed. The combination of staff leaving, COVID 19, tight budget constraints and assessing what is required for 2021 and beyond has led to the decision to keep the site closed until early next year. We will be revisiting the date to open for bookings again in mid December and will provide you with a further update then.
