25.01.2022 What a fabulous day we had! Players from Wonthaggi, Drouin, Sale, Morwell & Leongatha turned up to share in the celebrations, along with several Korumburra life members and some past members. It was the usual Gippsland weather which was blatantly ignored by some brave souls. Our Federal Govt member Russell Broadbent arrived at lunchtime as did the South Gippsland Shire's chief administrator Julie Eisenbise. After entertaining speeches by our President Ruth Cashin, Julie & Russell, the awesome birthday cake was cut by life members Ruth Stevenson & Thea Mayes. It was during the lunch break that the sun came out.....of course. Games then resumed for a short while before afternoon tea beckoned. Robert Smallwood presented Ruth C with the Croquet Victoria plaque for Korumburra reaching the 100 year milestone .

25.01.2022 It's not true! Croquet may be a vicious game but it is played by friendly, genteel people.

24.01.2022 Once this isolation is over & done with, we can all celebrate our freedom with a cruise. Well, maybe not! But we can certainly celebrate with a multitude of croquet games. It will happen!

24.01.2022 Couldn't resist sharing this little gem.

23.01.2022 Someone stopped walking too soon I think. But....the hand sanitizer was close by & the sun was shining for our first foray into our favourite sport.

23.01.2022 Grrr! We've got alien invaders digging holes in the lawns .

22.01.2022 Congratulations to Nannette Fry who has been awarded a much deserved life membership at Drouin Croquet Club.

22.01.2022 The Korumburra Croquet Club is now closed until further notice. There will be no games whatsoever. Once the current health situation improves, the decision will be reviewed and all members notified accordingly. The committee thanks the club members for their cooperation. Try & enjoy the enforced hiatus and stay safe.

20.01.2022 Late last year we decided to trial a change to our hours of Saturday play during January & February to mornings, to avoid the heat of summer. What summer, you may well ask! Saturday play has now resumed in the afternoons with play commencing at 1.00pm.

20.01.2022 Our monthly meeting - which we haven't had since July - has now been deferred to 21st November in the hope that sporting clubs and the State Premier are happy little vegemites by then and we're not having to count numbers. This coming Saturday (27th October) will still be our season opening and members are encouraged to wear footy colours. We need some light-hearted fun even if it means ribbing someone about their favourite team

19.01.2022 After deferral due to COVID restrictions, our AGM finally got underway. Our President is Ruth Cashin and Secretary is Joan Hopkins. The annual trophies were awarded. Club Champion was Joan Hopkins. The Barb Waterland trophy for the Saturday Hoops competition was won by Joan Hopkins. There's no stopping that lady! We also held a hat day to help with the ambience. Some people forgot to bring their hat but 5 people showed off their creations. The winner was the jaunty, red hat worn by Chris O'Neill; who won a box of Malteasers for her effort. I'm not sure about Ruth's hat - she was sporting her version of a corona virus.

19.01.2022 The new kids on the block are putting on a show at a time when no one is there to admire them!

18.01.2022 It won't be long now! Time to limber up & get those creaky joints working.

18.01.2022 Today we had Jim Clements sweating in the sun while explaining rules & tactics to some of our newer members. His tutoring was much appreciated.

18.01.2022 Sunday Times article today

16.01.2022 Good news! We can play singles. Don't forget the obligatory masks, hand washing, sanitizing and social distancing. If every one behaves, we will have our season opening on 17th October, preceded by our meeting. Bring a small plate of afternoon tea and don't forget to wear some footy colours!

16.01.2022 The lawns aren't crowded yet.

15.01.2022 Our club will begin the new season on Saturday 5th September. There won't be any bells or whistles, just a normal Saturday and extra effort made for afternoon tea. Since it will still be footy season , members can wear something in the colours of their favorite team. Let the games begin!

15.01.2022 Who would have guessed? We are cancelling our November Doubles Tournament due to the uncertainty associated with the COVID-19 pandemic. We hope to see you all in 2021!

14.01.2022 It might not be our normal croquet season but Korumburra would like to wish a happy and safe Easter to everyone in the croquet community. Keep smiling, folks

12.01.2022 More photos of our 100th

12.01.2022 Cleaning Croquet Equipment Included in the guidelines that we must follow to allow up to ten players to return to the courts is the advice that all equipment should be sanitised. Paul Manwaring of the Australian Croquet Company, supplier of Dawson International croquet balls, has advised that a mild dishwashing detergent and water should be used to clean the croquet balls. Anything else may damage the balls. Please remember to also limit the number of people handling any of the court equipment.

12.01.2022 Isn't this impressive?

12.01.2022 Some good news...we were successful in our application for the $1000 corona virus grant

12.01.2022 2020 is our lucky year Not only a pandemic to contend with.....the hot water service died, the wall urn in the kitchen died, and this week we were alerted to a water leak (apparently under the shed) which will require diversion. And it's only the beginning of July! Can't wait to see what the next 5 months brings .

09.01.2022 As we should have predicted, 2020 isn't going to let us do anything that used to be deemed normal activities. You guessed it....our season opening didn't stand a chance! Wet, wet, wet!

09.01.2022 We have now declared this season open! It's time to play regardless of what has been thrown at us this year.

08.01.2022 In January & February we will be trialling morning games for Saturday play. Games will commence 9.30am and ideally avoid any hot weather. We don't want to have heat stroke/exhaustion spoil things. Our normal 1.00pm start will resume in March.

06.01.2022 News from Croquet Victoria. Posted 12th May. Edited. Sport and Recreation Victoria has asked State Sporting Associations to prepare guidelines for their clubs on how to manage within the restrictions which still apply. They want to see the guidelines before they are sent out. Croquet Victoria has just submitted its draft guidelines, using the national Rebooting Sport framework provided by Sport Australia and local State requirements as spelt out by the Department of Health an...d Human Services. We don’t know how long it will take Sport and Recreation Victoria to give us feedback. We will send out the guidelines as soon as we have the go-ahead and will copy to LGAs. Please be patient! Please don’t go back on the courts just yet.

06.01.2022 The rain held off as members get back into gear. Some of us feel a bit rusty!

04.01.2022 More pics of our 100th birthday- courtesy of Leongatha Croquet Club. Thank you LCC.

03.01.2022 We finally held our Golf Croquet Singles tournament on the weekend, and it was a glorious feeling after the series of lockdowns etc we'd all experienced. Just to add to the challenges, we caused some confusion with the results of Section 2 in our enthusiasm and that has now been sorted. Section 1 - 1sr was Garry Mitchell of Morwell, 2nd was Peter Goldstraw of Sale, 3rd was Heather Bradbury of Bairnsdale. In section 2 - 1st was Roger Bradbury of Bairnsdale, 2nd was Tom Lacey of Wonthaggi , 3rd was Neil Warburton of Wonthaggi. Congratulations to all those players. I F

02.01.2022 Plans are underway for our 100th birthday. Past. Members should receive their invitation soon. Everyone pray that wicked COVID stays away.

02.01.2022 Due to stage 3 restrictions being implemented once again, we've got a croquet drought for the next 6 weeks or so. Please be patient....The situation must improve sometime!

02.01.2022 The Earl of Essex was famous for lavish croquet parties in the 1860s. But as many other popular amusements, croquet also came under moral suspicion. In 1898, *Living Age *magazine described the game as a "source of slumbering depravity, a veritable Frankenstein monster of recreation." The author suggested that "it would be well if the enthusiasm of the clergy and laity were enlisted for suppressing the immoral practice of croquet." Thanks Jenny Clarke. Yes, you've got to watch these croquet players or they will lead you astray lol
