18.01.2022 Very sad to report I will no longer be practicing from Willmott Health and Wellbeing. In line with AMA recommendations I have now moved to a Telehealth model and luckily this has been a pretty smooth process for me as I’ve been providing therapy online for people in rural and remote areas. Medicare thankfully are now providing rebates for everyone affected by Covid-19 to access psychology services online or via phone, so please keep this is mind if you or someone you know is struggling with isolation and could benefit from some support. If you’d like more info you can find it on my website or contact me anytime. Stay safe and well everyone and please keep an eye on your emotional health too during this crisis.

11.01.2022 Who will be my 5? Clinically diagnosed anxiety is not just being a bit worried, you can't just "chill out a bit" or "get over it". It eats into your well being, your confidence, your health and your life and it is 24/7. When someone cancels, or ducks out, or makes a pathetic excuse please understand that it isn't personal, it isn't laziness, it isn't being rude. It's because they can't physically do it. When someone needs supporting/encouraging/ hand holding it isn't patheti...c, it isn't attention seeking, it isn't childish - it's because they are desperate to beat it but can't do it alone. "Anxiety sucks, being isolated and believing your friends don't care sucks even more . How many of you have had a night out planned, or arranged coffee or a beer with friends and suddenly the 4 walls you inhabit seem the only safe haven because it's the only place you don't have to pretend you are ok, so you cancel. Or when you are invited out you tell them how terribly sorry you are but you're already booked up that weekend, when you are actually just really busy holding it together in your safe box. And so the first problem starts, all by itself. People stop asking you and the isolation that at first wasn't true becomes your only truth. Please don't give up on your friends. Ring them, go round, even when they don't want you to. Because they really do they just don't know how to say it. And in work every passing comment is a negative, you constantly do more to get over the feeling you are not good enough. The exhaustion from not sleeping because you panic all night over what you cannot influence means you make mistakes, you live in a fog and it is a vicious circle. I'm going to make a bet, without being pessimistic, that out of my Facebook friends that less than 5 will take the time to put this on their wall to help raise awareness of and for those who have mental health difficulties. You just have to copy it from my wall and paste it to yours. Who will be my 5 ... I wonder? Mental Health Awareness - shouldnt be about having to put a red nose on everyday
10.01.2022 You really are what you eat! In this vid I talk about the emerging field of ‘nutritional psychiatry’ and the exciting implications of that - well it’s exciting to a psych nerd like me but hopefully you will find it interesting too! To sum up there is increasing levels of support in the literature for low sugar Mediterranean and Keto-style diets for improving brain health and reducing our predisposition to Neurological conditions and mental illness, and even changing the wa...y these illnesses manifest. I refer to some supplements too that can improve brain functioning and who couldn’t do with some more of that?! Please note that I mistakenly refer to complex carbs in the vid when I mean simple carbs...I always get these mixed up - think I need a little more BDNF in my diet (you’ll understand when you watch the vid ) There is a great podcast on this that I refer to in the vid so will post here: https://podcasts.apple.com//episode-two-the-/id1407524119
