It's time to deliver for the people of Ku-ring-gai.

23.01.2022 If I wasnt still tremendously upset about the election result, I might even manage a smirk at this. Liberal voters have been duped. Sadly, Im sure well see more of this from the Morrison government over the coming days, months and years.

23.01.2022 Today we farewell Bob Hawke, Aussie, larrikin, leader. You can watch on ABC and ABC News now, with the memorial service starting at 11:30am AEST. Farewell, Prime Minister Hawke.

22.01.2022 Make sure you have your bushfire survival plan in place. Plan ahead and err on the side of caution. With one of the largest areas of bushland interface in Sydney, Ku-ring-gai and Hornsby residents are being urged to evacuate bushfire-prone areas.

22.01.2022 At work today I am conducting research around the UN Sustainable Development Goals. It strikes me that the framework and guiding principles are worth a closer look from all those in government and policy making roles. NSW could benefit in particular from a dedicated approach to Goal No. 8, 'Decent Work and Economic Growth' - Promote inclusive and sustainable economic growth, employment and decent work for all. 'Slow and uneven progress requires us to rethink and retool our e...conomic and social policies aimed at eradicating poverty... A continued lack of decent work opportunities, insufficient investments and under-consumption lead to an erosion of the basic social contract underlying democratic societies: that all must share in progress. Sustainable economic growth will require societies to create the conditions that allow people to have quality jobs that stimulate the economy while not harming the environment. Job opportunities and decent working conditions are also required for the whole working age population. There needs to be increased access to financial services to manage incomes, accumulate assets and make productive investments.'

22.01.2022 Although the below plans werent mentioned during the election campaign, I assume that Liberal voters knew that the State Government isnt actually great at managing budgets, rather they are good at selling off public assets for short-term gain. Whose interests does this serve?

21.01.2022 I am delighted to announce that I have nominated for the NSW Labor Policy Forum. I believe that effective policy is formulated in consultation with subject matter experts, communities, advocates and those with lived experience. With professional experience in communications, engaging communities, policy, advocacy, social change, and campaigning, I am standing to add the voices of our members and communities to policy discussion. In order to forge a path forward, we need to: -... listen, to our base, as well as those who are not feeling heard; - hear about the inequalities and challenges facing members and the wider public; - find the good news stories, to learn what IS working and providing positive outcomes for individuals and communities; - include diverse voices and perspectives in policy debate; and - create policy that speaks to Labor values and addresses the range of issues facing our varied communities. I'd love your support in the upcoming members ballot for the Policy Forum.

21.01.2022 In the 1960s and 70s, Costa Rica had the highest per capita deforestation rate in the world. They have managed not only to stop deforestation, but to double forest coverage. They made a plan and stuck to it, with proven results.

20.01.2022 As the dust from the NSW election settles, we find out exactly what the result means for issues voters care about. What more damage will be done over the next four years? The NSW government will abolish key agencies including the Office of Local Government, the RMS and Jobs NSW under sweeping changes to the structure of the NSW public service. A memo from the Department of Premier and Cabinet says the Office of Local Government, along with the Office of Environment and Heritage, will cease to be independent entities and their functions will be absorbed by a Planning and Industry Cluster.

19.01.2022 Freedom of the press is vital in our democracy. Local action is planned today for outside the office of federal communications minister and member for Bradfield, Paul Fletcher following the raids by the Australian Federal Police on the ABC's Sydney headquarters. Event details protest at 280 Pacific Hwy. Lindfield at 1pm today - https://www.facebook.com/events/2467712396595333/

18.01.2022 NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian is rewarding every Coalition MP with promotions that deliver salary sweeteners of between $10,000 and $110,000 a year on top of their base wage. For contrast, those on Newstart, which is not tied to inflation and hasn't been raised in real terms in 25 years, are receiving $40 per day. The rate is too low to give people the support they need in tough times, while they look for suitable, paid work.

18.01.2022 Most voters in Ku-ring-gai State Electorate are also in Bradfield Federal electorate. Labor's outstanding candidate for Bradfield is Chris Haviland. Early voting for Bradfield voters starts tomorrow, Monday 29 April at 8:30am in Hornsby, Roseville and Chatswood See the post below for details.

17.01.2022 This election is crucial. Voters in Bradfield (encompassing Ku-ring-gai) have a choice, and more of the same isn't good enough. Vote for change this Saturday!

15.01.2022 This is a tragedy felt deeply in the local community. Lives cut short on a family holiday, on a visit to White Island/Whakaari. The boys parents are still unaccounted for. My heart goes out to all in our community who feel this loss.

14.01.2022 "It is now more than six years since the Coalition came to power, during which time Australians have had to endure the disruption and distraction of three Liberal prime ministers. Scott Morrison has been Prime Minister for more than a year. By any objective assessment, you could hardly claim it has been a period of genuine, evidence-based, policy development or implementation." - John Hewson, Columnist and former Liberal opposition leader

13.01.2022 This is not the best title for this article, however it does raise an issue that for some, was seen to have the greatest impact on the federal election result. Personal values are important, vital, but are problematic when they are projected and shape what people look for - without verification. Australia has just been through a federal election cycle where the proliferation of misinformation was part of the voter experience. Most people consuming information online in Australia take no steps to verify its accuracy. There is no simple solution but we cannot allow policy makers to steadfastly ignore a problem which is now clearly before us on the basis that there are no easy answers. There's a lot of hard work ahead of us and I for one, am ready to work on solutions.

13.01.2022 Tell me again that the LNP are better at economic management.

12.01.2022 The truth is - this is political. This week we saw an emergency level bushfire in Ku-ring-gai. Many of us were personally affected. We need to know that this Government has a plan for the coming summer, and years ahead. We need a greater commitment to fire prevention and management in Ku-ring-gai, and across NSW. The Berejiklian Government has cut the number of National Parks firefighters from 1349 to 1060. They've imposed a $20 million "Labour Expense Cap" on Fire and Rescue, even though frontline workers are supposed to be exempt. The Rural Fire Service has a $49 million funding shortfall, and scores of permanent positions remain vacant. It's been a story of cuts, cuts and more cuts - impacting our ability to fight bushfires. A decade of Liberal ideology is coming home to roost.

12.01.2022 CATASTROPHIC FIRE DANGER - On the 21st of December Hornsby/Ku-Ring-Gai District will experience Catastrophic Fire Weather. The Total Fire Ban remains in place. ...On days of Catastrophic fire weather, fires may be worse than anything previously experienced. Flames could be greater than 12 meters high and embers could travel more than 5 km. Leaving bush fire prone areas the night before or early in the day is your safest option do not wait & see. Avoid forested areas, thick bush or long, dry grass. Know your trigger make a decision about: When you will leave, where will you go, how will you get there, when will you return, what will you do if you cannot leave. Be aware of local conditions. Seek information by listening to local radio. Go to www.rfs.nsw.gov.au or call the NSW Bush Fire Information Line on 1800 679 737 See more

11.01.2022 The review of the NSW Labor Party is an opportunity to reform the party and champion integrity. There are plenty of us working for change, who believe in the values of the party, however there are systemic issues that need addressing. Let's have our say - let's fix NSW Labor and make sure this is the party that people choose for a government that delivers for all of us. Submissions can be made to the review until 5pm Friday 25th October, by emailing [email protected].

11.01.2022 Life threatening air - now there's something for Gladys. 'There is a close, quantitative relationship between exposure to high concentrations of small particulates (PM10 and PM2.5) and increased mortality or morbidity, both daily and over time' - World Health Organisation, Air Pollution, Key Facts May 2018.

11.01.2022 If timing is everything... this is indeed quite suspect.

11.01.2022 Want to have a say about funding for community projects in Ku-ring-gai? You can help decide which projects get funding. 'My Community Project' will fund projects in each NSW electorate to help improve the wellbeing of the people and communities that live there. Pick between three and five projects, arrange them in order of your preference, then submit your vote. Voting is open until 15 August 2019.

11.01.2022 Our Labor family has lost a giant of our cause. Ku-ring-gai branch member, true believer and legendary phone banker, Ivan de Vulder. A dear friend, Ivan always offered his support for me and so many others in our party. He believed in kindness, hugs, and a fairer, more caring society. He will be greatly missed.

07.01.2022 History shows that we tend to choose political and business leaders who are stoic, predictable, and unflinching, but research indicates that the leadership we need is characterised by the opposite: creativity and flexibility. We need leaders with 'intellectual humility'. Recently, scientists from various universities started porting this idea into the realm of everyday psychology, breaking the concept of intellectual humility down into four components; - Having respect for ot...her viewpoints - Not being intellectually overconfident - Separating ones ego from ones intellect - Willingness to revise ones own viewpoint Wouldn't it be great if our politicians displayed more of these qualities?!

07.01.2022 Well isnt this just dandy... The Morrison government will need to consider cuts to spending or increasing the GST or other consumption taxes to offset the increasing revenue loss from the continuation of excess franking credit refunds, according to KPMG tax specialist Damian Ryan.

07.01.2022 Framing is everything. It's incomprehensible that a 2% rise would come into effect for some of our most comfortable public servants, whilst those who most need support are struggling to get by. Income support (Newstart) has not increased in real terms in 25 years. Current discussions are around raising the rate by just $75 per week, which would make a difference in the lives of those looking for employment. It's time to #raisetherate

06.01.2022 NSW Labors North Sydney Regional Assembly, Saturday 9 NOV, 1:30pm. All members are invited.

05.01.2022 Friends, supporters, optimists... thank you! Today I reaffirm my commitment to help create a fairer, more equal society - one in which we provide adequately funded public services across health, education, housing, transport, conservation and family violence. I see a world where our environment is more important than a developer's dollar, where local communities have more say over what happens in their backyards and where the best decisions are made with communities, not sole...ly for commercial interests. I want cleaner air where I live and more efficient public transport, not more toll roads. We need more women and diverse voices in parliament. I want an end to coal-fired power, solid investment in public education and a health system where professionals are given the funding and resources needed to save lives and improve wellbeing. NSW needs economic management that doesn't come at the cost of public assets and services. All these things are not simply pipe dreams - they are possible. It takes bold decisions and brave choices to create change. Keep pushing those in Government to do better. Challenge them to really serve the people they represent. Make sure that your voices are heard. Continue to seek a brighter future.

03.01.2022 Voting is now open for members in the ballot for NSW State Policy Forum. The Forum consists of representatives from the Parliament, the union movement and rank and file members. Please mark a number 1 for me to help get a progressive, northside voice on the forum. Voting closes Wednesday 31 July 2019 17:00 AEST. I can arrange to send information about me and why I am standing if you'd like to give me a recommendation in an email to your Labor contacts. Thanks to those who hav...e already offered support. This is a great opportunity for us to win back trust and develop policy that speaks to our values and can deliver for our communities. Members will be emailed a unique link to the ballot paper. Those without registered email addresses will be sent a postal vote. If you have any questions please get in touch with me via messenger or by emailing [email protected].

02.01.2022 While there is currently no immediate fire threat locally, a catastrophic fire danger rating has been issued for tomorrow. In the event of a need to evacuate lo...cal evacuation centres will be established if severe bushfires take hold. North Shore Evacuation Centres for the 12 November 2019: Uniting Church Gordon 18 Cecil St, Gordon West Pymble Community Hall 30 Loftberg Rd, West Pymble East Lindfield Memorial Hall 9 Wellington Rd, East Lindfield Roseville Chase Community Hall 7 Babbage Rd, Roseville Lady Game Kindergarten 43 Lady Game Dr, Lindfield Presbyterian Church of Australia 14 Stuart St, Wahroonga St Andrews Anglican Church 2 Water St, Wahroonga Take action and leave early if you are at any risk. 02.01.2022 "Councils across NSW are seeking to raise rates by up to 15 per cent a year, well in excess of the 2.7 per cent maximum increase permitted by the pricing regulator. Burwood, Hunters Hill, Ku-ring-gai, North Sydney, Randwick and Sutherland Shire councils have all applied to the Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal for a special variation to raise rates beyond the rate peg set by the tribunal. The councils argue additional funds are needed to pay for roads, drains and playgrounds or improve financial stability. They say the NSW government is starving local government of money while shifting the cost of infrastructure to cash-strapped councils.

02.01.2022 More bad news for voters. Initially welcomed by the property industry, holes are starting to emerge in Prime Minister Scott Morrisons pre-election pledge to provide a new incentive for first home buyers.

01.01.2022 Back out early this morning at the station, supporting my great friend and colleague, Chris Haviland. Chris is the Labor Candidate for Bradfield in the upcoming Federal Election on 18th May. With experience in politics and a commitment to progressive values, Chris is a super candidate to represent Labor for Bradfield.
