Greg does a lot more than that though! Too much to mention here. Congratulations Greg! And thanks for your inspirational talk. It was a real eye opener.
25.01.2022 Sustainable Schools Congratulations to Latrobe Primary School Isabella had the idea for the tote bag initiative so very proudly accepted the novelty cheque on behalf of the school. She said that her next job was to communicate with the supermarkets. Isabella is a quiet achiever whois looking forward to the results of the sustainability challenge.
25.01.2022 Wow! What an achievement. Congratulations Huonville High!
24.01.2022 Sustainable Schools Another successful school was OHSTasmania The Ogilvie High School Eco-Schools Group is celebrating their 5th year of outstanding commitment to providing leadership, infrastructure and encouragement to foster awareness and participation in recycling at the school. KABTas was delighted to assist with the purchase of additional mixed recycling bins from Ecobins to compliment the bins previously purchased from money raised from school based fund raising. Congratulations!
23.01.2022 Latex balloons are often recommended as a biodegradable option for environmentally safe balloons. Not so - says this new study.
23.01.2022 Know any cafes or restaurants returning organic waste to the soil?
22.01.2022 Dealing with the 'waste' from a demolition site hasn't changed much for several decades. A great opportunity awaits. There's certainly been some interesting discussions in Tasmania in recent times. Be good to see something happening.
21.01.2022 Some wonderful projects here. Very inspiring.
20.01.2022 Montello Primary School received a KABTas Sustainable Schools Grant for their Frog Pond project. We love this video made by fellow project sponsor Waterscapes Australia. The frog pond may be the star of the show but what an awesome school. Just look at that wonderful garden and the care and love all around. This project was also sponsored by Lifestyle Gardens, Latrobe Kerb and Landscaping, Aquascape Australia, Nutrien Water Tasmania, Cape View Nursery & Image Signs and Promotions

19.01.2022 The Summary, a lovely diverse business in Burnie, offering grazing platters, event styling and more was a 2020 Community Kindness Award recipient. Their award recognised kindness towards NW health care workers during the Covid crisis, however kindness for this business is not a one off event. As you can see from the comments on their page, Bekk Taylor is much loved and often recognised for her care and kindness.
19.01.2022 We were delighted to receive so many worthy nominations for the 2020 Community Kindness Awards and have some lovely, heart warming stories to share. Here's Part Two of The Stagg Midtown story.
18.01.2022 Sustainable Schools Montello Primary School was another winner this year with their fabulous approach to environmental practice. Every student, every week , has the opportunity to be part of the program. Already they have numerous garden beds with seasonal produce. They have also constructed bee hotels. Within their garden complex they have constructed a pizza oven and the latest addition is a large chook house with 3 beautiful hens, almost ready to lay eggs. This whole area... is very much a go to place and part of the school ‘playground.’ Some of the students were thrilled to show me their next project, the frog pond construction. They already have an area chosen and talked a lot about the recycled things they could access to help with the construction. The students were very sure that the $600 provided by K.A.B.Tas along with the donated materials would ensure the success of their pond. See more
17.01.2022 What a great idea!
17.01.2022 When you find a donation dollar in your change....
16.01.2022 Sustainable Schools Another winning entry was submitted by Port Dalrymple School Georgetown When we visited to present their cheque, the grade 3-4 students very proudly showed the work they have already started in renovating their garden beds. The school has numerous, large, easily accessible above ground garden beds directly outside their classroom. They also have a garden shed next to the garden beds. The students have been weeding, improving the soil and some of the beds have already been replanted. The environmental leaders have taken on responsibility for their own garden bed and their class peers can choose to join them. The students were excited that they now had money to purchase more plants.

This award recognises a person who is not only a great supporter of KABTas but is also a valued and high achieving member of their community and/or workplace. Jess Nesbit is a most deserving winner of the 2020 award. Her work colleagues agree that Jess’ can do attitude and warm personality make her a joy to work with. Well done Jess from all your friends at work and the KABTas team. Image below shows Jess with KABTas Program Coordinator, Lesley Gardner
11.01.2022 Unfortunately this is becoming a big problem. Even if people dispose of their rubbish responsibly things happen, bins fall over, rubbish bags split open, landfill sites are exposed to wind and rain. But if you cut the straps, entanglement risk is greatly reduced.
11.01.2022 The Stagg Midtown Part One of a KABTas Community Kindness Awards story.
10.01.2022 ABBA & KAB!! What's not to like? http://abbaphenomenon.abbaomnibus.net/kab/kab.htm
10.01.2022 A very important facet of the KABTas annual awards is the Sustainable Schools Program, With generous sponsorship from Mars Wrigley, we are able to offer grants or prizes to Tasmanian schools to assist with sustainability projects. The Hutchins School Student Sustainability committee is aiming to make the process of separating waste and recycling easier and simpler by replacing the existing bin system with ‘waste stations’, composed of smaller, but separate recycling, general waste and compost bins. City of Hobart Council will collect the recycling and the compost, which will be processed through the HCC FOGO program. Congratulations on your successful submission The Hutchins School.
10.01.2022 Happy Penguin Awareness Day! (for yesterday...)
10.01.2022 We can probably all learn something from this article. Have you ever analysed your own 'over-dispensing' habits?
09.01.2022 Sustainable Schools Next on our Sustainable Schools winners list is St Thomas More's Catholic School The whole school assembly was a lovely way for the Conservation Team to accept the novelty cheque. It gave them an opportunity to tell everyone about the beeswax lunch wraps that they intend to make for all the students. With Mrs Kidd’s wonderful support the students were learning about the need to use lunch wraps that could be used more than once. They agreed that sourcing some of the equipment from second hand shops would be a positive demonstration of sustainable practice.

05.01.2022 Sustainable Schools Winner Hilliard Christian School The school's 'Love the Earth' project plans to achieve an outdoor area with plenty of trees, plants, and natural resources for wildlife and student engagement including bush kinder. Students will plant Tasmanian native seedlings and each class will research a species, plan the best place to plant it, design an information sign, then plant, and take responsibility for maintaining that area of the outdoor environment.
04.01.2022 National Tree Day will be a little different this year There will no public get togethers to plant trees but you can still plant a tree and care for the environment in your own patch!
04.01.2022 Keeping Australia Beautiful means caring for our wildlife too. Landcare Tasmania provides some excellent information here https://www.landcaretas.org.au/webcast_on_rodenticides

03.01.2022 Marina DeBris - thought provoking, confronting art. #thereisnoaway #microplastics
03.01.2022 Sustainable Schools Awards We have some lovely photos to share of the winning schools receiving their cheques. Starting with Havenview Primary School The compost leaders were most excited to accept the novelty cheque and be photographed in their veggie garden. The scarecrow and other decorative additions depicted a well loved garden space. The students said that they had been digging trenches to bury the food scraps because they just had too many to manage in their compost bins. Their worm farm was working to full capacity.
03.01.2022 One of our Community Kindness Awardees in 2020 was Tasmanian Offroad Adventures. When a significant area of rubbish was discovered on the Bellingham to Bridport 4WD traverse the group took it upon themselves to clean it up. It was a big job and a great help for the local environment and other track users. Very kind indeed!
02.01.2022 What a lovely story and beautiful thank you. Has someone showed you a random act of kindness lately? Why not nominate them for a KAB Community Kindness Award. Entries close 25th Sept.
02.01.2022 Wow! Thanks #tasmanianoffroadadventures
