26.01.2022 Nikki has been onto me about sharing some garden tips for ladies. So here’s her next tip: Dragging spray bottles around or carrying them is DEFINITELY not her ‘gig’. Recently whilst having one of her ‘cruises’ around the garden section in the big green shed, Nik came across all her dreams come true! A spray bottle on wheels. Now Nik is very particular about her ‘stuff’ so we couldn’t just have one ‘all rounder’.. Nik had to have two.... One for the blessed weeds in the lawn, and one to use ‘glyphosate’.. Both have to be marked with a permanent pen as which is for which, and never the two shall mix. So if you are having trouble carrying spray bottles, here is Nik’s answer ‘get one with wheels, you’ll love it!’. Brand is not an issue but wheels are! See more

20.01.2022 Nothing beats receiving a positive text: Wow. Thanks Amanda, you made my day Thank you so much John. You have done a brilliant job. I was going to see if you could book me in again in a fortnight so we keep on top of it and maybe start around those little sheds. It's the best job I've had done here in 11 years. Thank you again

14.01.2022 The funnel ants are back in force on the mountain. If you are interested in getting rid of them, I am now spraying. I’ve tested the many available poisons and options on my own property, and Nikki (my wife) is very pleased we now have green lawn, no mud piles and my mower is not getting filled up with mud and dirt. If you would like the little rascals sorted at your place, I charge $40 / hour and that includes all poisons. I sprayed mine about 18 months ago and have only had ...a few, (about 5 piles, might have missed them) which I’ve just done. Ring me if your interested John 0412873450 (I live at Upper Beechmont) See more

10.01.2022 October is the start of the growing season so it’s a great time to be out in the garden and getting it prepared to grow and be the best it can be. Time to fertilise... but where do you start and which one do you use, and how much do you use, and do you really have to buy a different one for different plants??? Well obviously if you know your plants then you know your fertiliser, but if you are a novice and still want to get good results? Here’s some tips on a good all rounde...r. (My wife loves it because she says it’s made for people like her, ‘idiot proof’..) First, slow release pellets... Pellets melt over time. So one lot of fertilising work will hold you in good stead. If you don’t like the smell or it’s attracting attention from your pets, then a good watering, after spreading will diminish the smell. Second, where do you put it when mulching? UNDER the mulch! You don’t need healthy mulch, you want healthy plants. If you are planting plants, then it’s a good idea to put a small amount of pellets or dust in the bottom of the hole before planting, then some on the top of the soil, then mulch! Third, Look for a fertiliser that has seaweed, and as many different soil conditioners and additives as possible. Fourth, it you want to get brand advice from my wife. (She will ONLY use this brand and uses it EVERYWHERE) Then use this one pictured. Turns out its made in Beaudesert. It can only be found in small nurseries so check out their web page for stockists. https://tff.com.au Fifth, by starting with a basic all rounder, you can do the lot with one bag, and as you learn more, buy the specialist bags.

09.01.2022 A lot of people often ask about how to kill Broadleaf weeds and Bindis and other assorted weeds in the lawn. This little bottle, that costs around $11, is definitely my wife’s ‘Go to’. She loves it as you can mix up a small spray bottle and just do a bit each week, or you can make up a bigger amount and go everywhere. Nik loves to walk barefoot everywhere around the yard, and this is definitely her favourite. It’s not organic, but Nik reckons there is nothing ‘organic’ about stepping on a prickle. Nows the time to stop the lawn being taken over by ‘The Dreaded’ so Nik insisted I share her favourite

09.01.2022 Hopefully you are all getting some of this wonderful rain we have been getting up here on the mountain. Are you ready? Are your gutters cleared of debris and your down pipes clear of any blockages? If you need someone to climb up and get your gutters cleared please give me a call. 0412873450. Very reasonable hourly rate. Gotta be saving as much water as we can and get our tanks full!

07.01.2022 Most people hate using strong poisons like ‘Roundup’ (Glyphosate) And yes there are some good reasons why not to use it. All that mixing and spilling and not wanting it to get on your skin. But sometimes it’s a good option for paths and paving and especially for the people who can’t do all the bending and tugging of weeds. And don’t they come back fast???... If you live on acreage then sometimes, unless you really know your stuff, Glyphosate can be a necessary evil. So here’s some easy weeding tips. 1. If you hate it, but can see the good in using it sparingly then try the premix bottles. Wonder what brand to buy, then forget the brand and read the label... More expensive doesn’t mean better results. Look for the highest Glyphosate percentage on the bottle. The higher the percentage, the stronger the spray, the less you use. The better value for money. 2. If you decide to buy it straight and mix your own, then it’s a good idea to have two seperate sprayers. One for the ‘kill it ALL dead’ gysophate (Round Up is simply the brand name of the active chemical that does the killing, Glyphosate) and if you spray for lawn weeds, (no one likes Bindi’s) then have a seperate sprayer for it. 3. Mark the sprayers well with a permanent marker pen. There’s nothing worse than spraying your lovely lawn with a sprayer that has left over Glysophate in it! 4. If you’re like my wife and don’t want to touch Glyphosate but hate the place looking untidy around the house, then consider the premix bottles and reuse by getting someone to mix them for you. 5. Always use gloves and keep pets and small children away from the area until you know it’s completely dry. I suggest overnight. 6. Spray in the warmth of the day, so it gets dried to the leaves faster and the heat of the day seals the deal. And here’s an interesting bit of information on Glyphosate... the way it kills is to speed up the growth of the weed. The weeds literally die because you made them grow faster.. Please don’t use Glyphosate near your veggie patch. That area is for your daily exercise.... stretching and natural yoga positions.

06.01.2022 I was walking through Canungra’s Produce Store the other day, and noticed my wife’s favourite grass friend, was in stock. Raised at Beechmont and attending the ‘old school’, shoes were not a fashion accessory that many kids wore to school in the 70’s at Beechmont. So can you imagine her disgust when she moved to Brisbane when she started college, (then married me) only to find that to walk on the grass she needed SHOES????? All hell rained upon me, until she found this little... green bottle! ‘Good things come in small packages’. My wife swears by this product! It kills ALL weeds and leaves her grass the well alone! So next time you see this little bottle, grab some, put it in your sprayer and enjoy being ‘one with the grass’. The kids will thank you for it! And now is the time to get it onto your weedy grass, before it becomes all weed and no grass. See more

06.01.2022 With the rain coming last night, and more predicted to come, now is the time to ‘spread a little love’ and get out on that dry crispy stuff we used to call grass, and spread a bit of fertiliser. Rain water with all that natural goodness, mixed with a bit of lawn fertiliser can make a huge difference to the quality of your lawn. If you are on acreage, and want your lawn mown, then my big zero turn, mulcher mower, can get it done fast and the great advantage is, it mulches up ...the grass and throws it straight back down. So there’s no mess left on the surface of your lawn. All the lawn clippings are mulched up by the mower, and help your grass grow even better. It’s also a great mower if your lawn is seeding. It throws the seeds back down, where they have more chance to sprout, and thicken up your lawn. A huge shout out to the boys in Beaudesert at Dover and Sons, who were extremely patient with my wife’s questions about mowers last week. Nice to know there are blokes out there that take the lady gardeners seriously. Cheers boys.

04.01.2022 Loving the get togethers for a bit of a yarn and a feed. Beautiful gardens are made perfect when the locals call in

23.12.2021 With the weather cooling and the grass slowing down, I now have time to do home handyman jobs. I’ve put up a folding clothes line, changed some door locks, fixed some leaky roofs, replaced some down pipe, cleaned out gutters, done some paving, just to name a few things. So if you’ve got some shelves to be built or some of those pesky jobs needing doing, let me know. On a side note have you seen the bright mural at Rosins Lookout? Very proud of my son and wife for painting this as part of the Regeneration Art Project up here at Beechmont

10.12.2021 Enjoy your long weekend... that’s what they fought for.. to allow us the wonderful life we can enjoy now. Lest we forget..

01.12.2021 After all the glorious rain, I thought I’d just check in on you
