23.01.2022 Re: Ongoing Support During COVID-19 Situation We wanted to make contact to reassure you of our ongoing support during the COVID-19 situation and let you know about the systems we have in place for doing so. As you know, we work from our own office, this assists us to provide our services without interruption.... In addition to phone and email support, we are equipped with ZOOM video conference services. This means that we can continue to talk and have visual communication. We also would like to remind you of our preference as a paperless office and encourage you to make full use of the Receipt Bank or Hubdoc service that has been set up for you to provide documentation for processing. The ATO is also providing some relief during this time to businesses that maybe experiencing difficulties. This includes: Deferring by up to four months the payment date of amounts due through the business activity statement (including PAYG instalments), income tax assessments, fringe benefits tax assessments and excise. Allow businesses on a quarterly reporting cycle to opt into monthly GST reporting in order to get quicker access to GST refunds they may be entitled to. Allowing businesses to vary Pay As You Go (PAYG) instalment amounts to zero for the March 2020 quarter. Businesses that vary their PAYG instalment to zero can also claim a refund for any instalments made for the September 2019 and December 2019 quarters. Remitting any interest and penalties, incurred on or after 23 January 2020, that have been applied to tax liabilities. The ATO assistance is not automatic taxpayers must first contact the ATO to request assistance, and if eligible, the ATO will tailor the assistance package for the relevant taxpayer. Please refer to the following link for further information. Please be assured of our understanding and support. If you have any concerns please feel free to contact us.

15.01.2022 Time to Get Ready for STP What is STP? Single touch payroll is a new ATO initiative aimed at online payroll reporting. Its a way for employers to lodge the payroll of employees directly to the ATO.... How does it affect your business? Digital connectivity is becoming a necessary part of running a business in Australia, and STP compliance is just one benefit of adopting the cloud. Instead of typically reporting payment once at the end of a financial year, certain employers will now be required to send information to the ATO with every pay run. If you run payroll Keeping Account is ready to help you

09.01.2022 The Tax Office will be visiting up to 400 small businesses in Maroochydore from early to mid-June as part of a nationwide crackdown on the black economy, which will see it visit 10,000 businesses across the country each year for the next three to four years. As part of the visits, the ATO will also be visiting tax practitioners of these small businesses as part of their early intervention strategy as it attempts to understand the drivers behind agent behaviour that may be leaning towards black economy behaviour.
