24.01.2022 PEDv is just one of the horrible diseases overseas that we are fortunate not to have in Australia. While Canada has a decent biosecurity system, the impacts are still devastating once the disease spreads: bit.ly/2vGLvpe
22.01.2022 Shared responsibility is about optimising protection for the State by appropriately sharing the responsibility for managing biosecurity risks between government, industry and the community. Biosecurity Act 2015 Q&A: http://www.dpi.nsw.gov.au//biose/key-questions-and-answers
20.01.2022 Biosecurity fact: In the last 20 years, a staggering 70 per cent of emerging infectious diseases in people have been found to have originated in animals. #biosecuritymatters #foodsafetyisatstake #notsofunfact #humanhealth
19.01.2022 There have been big changes for the pig industry this past year, some bad such as the decreasing price of pork for producers, and some good - like strengthening our tracebility system with mandatory reporting via PigPass. Big or small producer, supplier or regulatory body the pig industry is gathering to talk about why we do what we do. So come and be a part of the conversation - http://pppe.com.au/
16.01.2022 Did you know that if Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) entered Australia, it could cost us upwards of $7.1 billion. FMD is spread through the infected animals living tissue. Pigs are Australia's biggest risk of spreading FMD, as they can excrete very large quantities of the virus in their breath, saliva and other body fluids. Should Australian pigs contract the virus through the introduction of infected fresh pork into Australia, the virus would be passed on to other animals such... as beef and sheep very easily. 12.01.2022 Meat (tricera)tops the list of most seized #biosecurity risk items at Australia's international airports in 2016. Meat products pose a range of biosecurity risk...s to Australia. For instance, pork products can carry foot-and-mouth disease which, should it become established in the country, has been estimated could cost Australia around $50b over a decade. If you're travelling to Australia (or returning from an overseas trip) make sure you know what can and can't be brought in with you by visiting agriculture.gov.au/travelling. And if in doubt, be sure to declare it on your incoming passenger card.
11.01.2022 Global food safety and integrity issues have made consumers increasingly conscious of the origin and quality of their food. To help protect Australia’s clean, green reputation, the Australian pork industry is implementing our product integrity program the Pork Supply Chain Integrity Program (PSCIP) to underpin trust in Australian pork. https://youtu.be/ETCnNrimsVs

08.01.2022 A new Australian biosecurity in-flight video is taking off across the globe today, with a clear and simple message for incoming passengers ‘don’t be sorry, ju...st declare it’. Before we check your bags at the border, make sure you mark ‘yes’ on the incoming passenger card if you’re carrying any biosecurity risk items. It doesn’t matter where you are travelling from, you must declare fresh food, goods made from plant and animal material, and any wooden souvenirs. We discovered more than 340,000 biosecurity risk items in passenger’s bags in 2017, including fresh meat, live marine animals, reptiles, seeds and plants. Plant and animal products can bring exotic pests and diseases into the country, and severely threaten our $63 billion agricultural industry, unique wildlife and environment. Giving false or misleading information is a serious offence and you can face fines of up to $12,600 or 12 months in prison. So don’t be sorry, just declare it. Have friends or family travelling to Australia soon? Share this video as an important reminder that no excuse is good enough when it comes to Australian biosecurity. Head to agriculture.gov.au/passenger-video to check out the videos in English, Mandarin and Hindi. To learn more about what can and can’t be brought to Australia, visit agriculture.gov.au/travelling.
07.01.2022 Many of Australia's pork producing competitors view our biosecurity requirements as an unfair barrier to exporting their own pork into Australia and want us to reduce our #biosecurity laws.. But these nations often have a history of disease outbreaks and #science shows that these products can still be carrying living diseases that aren't in Australia. https://keepingourpigssafe.com.au//australias-competitive/ #keepingourpigssafe #pigbiosecurity #protectaussiefarmers

Australia’s airport biosecurity ensures international pass...engers do not bring in biosecurity risk items. In 2016, 4.1 million passengers were screened at Australia’s international airports. 270,000 biosecurity risk items, including seeds, fruit and meat, were seized. If you are travelling to Australia, you need to be biosecurity aware. Don’t bring in biosecurity risk items.
