24.01.2022 This is where your brand journey starts When it comes to business naming, some people get it so right and some so wrong. It's the first impression businesses make with prospects and their network. Having the best name for your brand will help begin the marketing process quicker, more prospects will come to you rather than you trying to find them. We've put together a few tips to help with the process...... Resonation: It should form a connect to the target audience preferably an emotional one. Suitability: It needs to reflect the brand and appeal to the target market. Memorable: Your name should be catchy, so prospects or referrers can remember it easily. Try to keep it as short as possible, but, as startup you still need to tell people what you do. Spelling: It should be easy to spell and pronounce. The word(s) should roll off the tongue, just sound and feel nice to say. Meanings: Make sure the words don't have an unintended meaning, included in slang terms. Availability: Always check to see if the name is available to register on the Australian Business Register. Also the domain name, social media account name and handles too! 08.01.2022 As my friends would say - 'Tell us a story Jackanory'. So here's a fab one... I got an email a few months ago from someone called Jonathan Chick asking if I could design a logo for him. I thought to myself... no one has a name that cool, it must be a scam (sorry Jonathan). Before I deleted it I checked out his FB business page and read his bio. Wow, this lad is amazing (he's just turned 16 and lives in Secret Harbour). He's designed and made brackets MAXBrax to hold MaxTrax (...4WDers use them to get out of bogged situations - sand, snow, mud etc) to the side of the roof rack for easy access and creating more space for other stuff you may need. I know some of you do a bit of 4WDing these brackets are affordable (much cheaper than anywhere else) and can be personalised...how cool is that! Please like and share his page. He is an amazing young man, and it was a pleasure to design his logo...as a gift. 04.01.2022 Does your business idea, have legs? These light bulb moments can come to you at any time. Whether it’s a 2am wake-up call that sends your mind into a frenzy, or an Archimedes style eureka moment in the bath. My latest a-ha moment was whilst cooking dinner last night. I was conjuring up the most time-efficient way to devour my meal. I was pretty hungry. Was it going to be the spoon or the fork? Both had pros and cons to be fair. That's when BOOM the Spork was born! Conf...etti and streamers fell from above, bugles played and the crowd roared. Ok, that last bit didn't happen. After one quick search on #google and my Spork idea fell at the first hurdle. There were 100s if not 1000s of Sporks and Foons already out there. Where had I been living, under a rock? How could I have missed this valuable piece of cutlery? So, the Spork idea has no legs? Quite the opposite, it’s got #legsfordays. Just because the idea isn't unique doesn't mean there isn't any opportunity to develop it into a thriving successful business. McDonald's is a perfect example to prove this point. Did Maccas invent burgers? Nope. Do they make the best burgers? Nope. Are they actually burgers? No comment. What McDonald's does have is a killer business model, specific target audiences (initially kids), and unique point(s) of difference. Needless to say, they haven't done too badly. Let's move on from here, all this food talk is making me hungry again. The key is finding your niche, your uniqueness, your difference, your target audience. And above all, you have to be passionate about your idea. Your passion will keep you going throughout all the planning, building and help turn your idea into reality.
