25.01.2022 Yesterday afternoon Keiki Glendale had a visit from Shauna who is from the Noongar and Yamatji Tribe. She will be visiting every Keiki Early Learning service this week as a continuation of NAIDOC Week and our ongoing learning about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture. Firstly we sat in a yarning circle with Shauna and she shared with us what her ancestors did to eat and what types of clothing they wore including the double sided kangaroo skin. We also discussed som...e traditional objects she brought in including the boomerang. Shauna then read us the Dreamtime story about the Waakarl ‘The Rainbow Serpent’. We discussed how he used his body to make the land and his scars represent the clouds when it’s about to rain! To advocate for our yarning circle discussion we made some aboriginal flag coloured hand prints on plates discussing the representation of colours, Black representing the Ancestors and the people, Red representing the Earth and Yellow representing the Sun. To finish off the day we created a huge rainbow serpent collage for our service!
25.01.2022 KEIKI TRINITY, ALKIMOS - Transition to School visit As part of our Three Plus School Readiness program at all services, we hold excursions to familiarise children with a school environment. Yesterday the Keiki Trinity children had a fabulous morning visiting the kindergarten class at John Butler Primary College! Children interacted with enthusiasm as we walked together remembering our road safety and spotting shops, cars and animals along the way. Once we arrived we had so...me time to investigate a big Kindy class room all by ourselves, this was so exciting and had everyone instantly exploring. The animal sequencing was a huge hit and had children recalling their knowledge about names and sounds they make. Other experiences of interest were the counting cars and dolls house which both supported the children’s creativity as they role played and confidence to explore a new surroundings. We shared morning recess with the big kindy children and our group was thoroughly involved talking about their snacks and what they enjoyed in the classroom. The teachers then invited us to a small group session where the big Kindy’s shared their Christmas story of the Gingerbread Man, our children joined in with actions and talked the whole way back about what happened. A big thank you to the wonderful teachers and staff at John Butler Primary College for hosting these transition visits and supporting our children on their new adventure.
24.01.2022 The kindy children at Keiki Trinity have been thoroughly enjoying a pretend laundry experience and making use of the warm weather this week They have been busy washing the baby clothes, squeezing them out and pegging them on the pretend washing line. It was so sweet to watch! The children did every step of the process by themselves and needed only a little help from their educator (when adding the bubbles). They enjoyed it so much and different groups of children visited th...e experience throughout the morning. Some of the conversations overheard were: You’ve got to wash it I’m washing I did it look It’s all clean now I’m all done, look I’m cleaning This experience helped to develop the children’s self help skills and independence. An imaginative play washing line is also so simple to put together but yet so effective for kids to pretend, engage and make sense of their world. This enables them to practise and experiment with the various skills they will take into adulthood.

21.01.2022 The children at our Alkimos services celebrated Diwali, the Festival of Lights, on Friday last week with Educator Sharan who originates from India. Sharan set up beautiful Rangloi patterns made of coloured sand and rice which instantly captivated the Keiki Trinity children who put their hands and feet in the tray. The children manipulated the sand between their fingers, enjoying the bright colours and textures, you could see the children really thinking about the patterns a...nd colours they saw and touched. The children then created their own interpretations of Rangloi patterns using chalk and bright coloured play dough. Sharan wore her stunning traditional cloth to Keiki Northshore OHSC where the children participated in a kitchen experience to make yummy Indian bread and lovely clay candle holders. The children loved being in the kitchen, using their measuring and cooking skills and working together to create a delicious afternoon tea! It was wonderful to see the children develop their knowledge about the world around them and have the opportunity to enjoy the cultural celebration of Diwali.
18.01.2022 Understanding the National Quality Framework (NQF) and how it guides the ways educators work and interact with children can be valuable for parents and families. Click on the link below to view a simple guide to the NQF and the seven quality areas of the National Quality Standards.
17.01.2022 KEIKI MINDARIE KEYS It has been a month of pouring, splashing and bubble making at Mindarie Keys as the babies experimented and explored lots of water play activities When bubbles were added to the water the children became fascinated by the look and texture change to the water and loved using their hands, feet and faces to explore and create the bubbles.... In one water play activity, we decided to have a coloured foam party which the children loved. The foam was touched, moulded, thrown and even used to make beards and hats! It was a fun sensory experience for the children to explore textures and express their creativity by creating beards and hats!
16.01.2022 To celebrate our wonderful families, Keiki Trinity and Northshore held a meet up at the local park in Shorehaven last Saturday. Children and their families spent the morning playing, exploring, chatting and making new friends. Children were so excited to see their little friends at the park, climbing, jumping and investigating with all the amazing experiences the park has to offer. It was so lovely to see all the families making new connections, building friendships and arran...ging their own catch ups. Parents watched in awe as their children interacted together showcasing the strong bonds they have and the pure joy they bring to each others lives. Educators from both services hosted this event, deepening the connection between home and childcare and sharing many laughs with both the parents and the children. We can’t wait for the next family meet up and a new park to explore. See more
14.01.2022 The Keiki Northshore children went on a lovely excursion to Bunnings in August, to buy some native wildflowers that grow and bloom during the Noongar season Djilba. The children will be planting within each season as a way to show respect, learn about and represent Aboriginal culture. This experience covered many learning aspects from going out into our community where we build a sense of belonging and engaging in life skills from reading signs, choosing the plants, scanning ...the codes and paying. We also reinforced safety skills in the bus and when out in the community around people and vehicles by discussing and creating our own risk assessment. The girls thoroughly enjoyed this experience, it’s so nice to see them building on their emotional wellbeing with many smiles, giggles holding each other’s hands and building those connections with one another. 12.01.2022 The children at Keiki Northshore OSHC have been exploring the Noongar season Djilba through art. They thoroughly enjoyed talking about the colours of the flowers they see blooming around their environment and enjoyed painting their own interpretations on the recycled canvas. #noongarboodja #learnthroughart

09.01.2022 The children at Keiki Northshore enjoyed a fantastic visit from Trinity Village Dental last week. This incursion was organised due to the children’s curious question what are teeth made out of?. We had a great and interactive group discussion about how to keep our teeth healthy by choosing what food to eat, how sugar makes holes in your teeth, when and how to brush your teeth and the three layers that our teeth are made up of. 09.01.2022 The children at Keiki Trinity participated in some amazing learning experiences as part of National Science Week celebrations, hypothesising, experimenting, problem solving and investigating as they explored the world around them. Educators planned a range of exciting experiences following children’s current interests and providing opportunities to scaffold and provoke thinking. Children in the Babies room had fun with bubbles, blowing them through straws, clapping them with... their hands and chasing and catching them as they flew around the gardens. Puffy paint saw our youngest learners getting messy as they used their hands to investigate, get creative and watch in wonder as they made marks. Toddlers created with fizzing volcanos with bicarb and vinegar; this experiment always captures interest. Children came together, discussed what they could see and revisited this learning several times using different colours and containers, sharing and developing their knowledge and understanding. Making their own paints using natural resources such as soil, flowers and sand had educators and children becoming co-learners. Kindy children extended their learning around how plants grow and watched coloured water absorb into celery and flowers. We planted seeds into recycled CD cases so we can observe the roots growing, these will then be planted into our garden beds. Coloured water was made using old markers, developing children’s knowledge around sustainability. Colour mixing was also a huge hit, we combined our interest with sensory play and colours together. Educators offered shaving foam and our coloured water for the children to investigate with, children were amazed at mixing and creating their own colours. Children from the whole service made their own lava lamps, watching the oil bubbles move around the jars was fascinating and sparked curiosity and wonder with even our youngest learners. The children talked about science week at home some bringing in items to experiment with, strengthening the connections between home and day care. The excitement was real every day with children showing increasing curiosity, awe and wonder in their environments.
09.01.2022 We have had an interest in lavender and wild flowers at Keiki Edgewater, as one of the children regularly arrives in the morning with a beautiful smelling sprig of lavender!Yesterday we provided all the ingredients already measured out for the kindy children to make lavender play dough by themselves with verbal cues.
06.01.2022 Last week children across all services learnt about personal safety and wellbeing, to coincide with National Child Protection Week. Our kindy children at Keiki Glendale, Hamersley focused on: Who are safe people to talk to? What feelings we feel when we are in safe and unsafe situations? What do the feelings feel like in our bodies?... The children had whole group discussions, showed us their emotions and created a book about what their feelings look like to them. 05.01.2022 Our lovely cherry blossom tree at Keiki Edgewater is currently in bloom, these beautiful flowers are only displayed for a few short weeks per year. A number of the children have passed comment on the flowers so we decided to set up the art easel and paints outdoors for them to paint their own interpretation of it. Colour investigations, mixing and experimentation became another learning experience as we created brown and pink from our primary colour paints.
04.01.2022 The children at Keiki Northshore enjoyed a bush walk on Thursday. The children were exploring the native plants blooming and enjoying the surrounding view. The children noticed some daisies were closed and learnt that they were closed due to the sun going down, when the sun rises tomorrow they will open up towards the sun. After our walk we enjoyed drawing our own interpretation of the golden wattle.
04.01.2022 Last week we celebrated Talk Like a Pirate Day at Keiki Early Learning, having lots of fun while at the same time raising funds and awareness for childhood cancer. 04.01.2022 The Kindy children at Keiki Hamersley have continued on their journey of cultural inclusion and indigenous education. Over the past few months the children have been on an educational journey learning about the Nyoongar language, symbols and their meanings along with the indigenous seasons.

02.01.2022 Our Keiki Glendale children had a lot of fun getting into the kitchen to make pancakes last week Cooking is such a fantastic experience for young children as it helps to introduce early maths and science concepts as well as social skills and working together. After taking turns to measure, pour and mix the ingredients the children waited patiently for the pancakes to cook. The pancakes made a delicious addition to our afternoon tea fruit platter, yum!
