25.01.2022 Congratulation to our 2019 graduates. We wish you all the best in your future endeavors.
25.01.2022 Dramatic play is an extremely valuable part of the daily curriculum at Keilor Heights Early Learning Centre . Here are just some of the benefits of dramatic play: * Use of social interaction skills. Dramatic play encourages children to put themselves in someone else's shoes. Such role-playing helps them to improve their ability to do this in real life. They learn important social skills, such as empathy.... * Language development. Dramatic play also encourages expressive language. Children are motivated to convey their wishes to others and speak from the perspective of their pretend roles. In fact, it is often through dramatic play that shy or withdrawn children first begin to express themselves through language. * Use of symbols. Dramatic play furthers an understanding of symbols. For example, a doll becomes a symbol for a baby. A slip of paper may become money. Opportunities to create and use symbols help children to utilise other symbols, like letters and numbers. * Sort out fantasy and reality. Dramatic play also allows children to differentiate between real and pretend. This is readily apparent when observing children using exaggerated voices to signal that they are playing their roles or in the child that announces, "It's just pretend." It may seem as though a child who has spent several hours engaged in dramatic play has just been "playing around" and has nothing concrete to show for it. On the contrary, the kind of play where a child takes on a role, and learns to interact from within that role, is very valuable to her development. Here at Keilor Heights Early Learning Centre we promote dramatic play throughout the curriculum as the children are able to give meaning and engage in creative play experiences where they learn to self-regulate their emotions and actions. Here are some images of some of the creative play areas that our wonderful educators have set up within the rooms.

23.01.2022 Over the recent weeks there has been a lot of coverage regarding the bushfires interstate. These fires have had a great impact on many communities including our natural environment and natural wildlife. We at KHELC have decided to hold a fundraiser in support of this, with all money raised to be sent directly to the Port Macquarie Koala Hospital to help support them with all the great volunteer work they do to save and help our Koalas and their natural habitat. On Wednesday 27th November and Thursday the 28th November our talented educators Teresa and Janine will be making and selling cupcakes to help fundraise for this cause. There will be a donation jar at reception for all your kind donations. + Koala Hospital, Port Mcquarie

11.01.2022 When children practice self-help skills such as feeding and dressing themselves, Children practice their large and small motor skills, gain confidence in their ability to try new things and build their self-esteem and pride in their independence. Here at Keilor Heights Early Learning Centre we strive to promote independence through the use of self help stations and encourage children to do for themselves whenever applicable. Educators have noticed the children become more in tune to themselves as they take increasing responsibility for their actions and belongings throughout the day.

07.01.2022 ALWAYS LOOK ON THE BRIGHT SIDE We at KHELC know that this is a stressful time for all of our families with many uncertainties and the unknown. We have created a rainbow made out of the children’s hand prints with colourful balloons and chalk drawings at our entrance. We are hoping to bring some brightness into your lives and your Children’s lives as well as the general community around us as we all go through this difficult time and work through this together. Please keep safe.
04.01.2022 Play is a means for investigation of the world for a child. Children use play to explore and make connections though giving meaning to their actions and resources. A play-based learning approach means that your child will learn and develop various skills at their own pace and through their own interests. Here at KHELC, We believe that children learn and develop best through play and social interactions. Therefore, our programming is based off play-based learning and interest-based play opportunities.
03.01.2022 Your child’s exploration is an essential source of learning! We encourage your child to be inquisitive and experimental of the world around them and use their curiosity to make their learning exciting, enjoyable, and relatable. At KHELC, we use exploration for your child as an inquiry-based learning and teaching approach. We believe that children will learn best when they can connect with the learning and environment that they are engaging in. If a child shows interest, curiosity, inquisitiveness on a topic or resource, they are eager to learn and this provides our educators with a basis for exploratory learning.
02.01.2022 Here at Keilor Heights Early Centre, our program will focus on your child’s learning and development. Our educators will endeavor to get to know you and your child and the most efficient ways in which they learn where they will use this as a focus in the way that they implement their program. Our educators will ensure that all your child’s development and learning are meeting the nationally recognised outcomes in a program which is implemented through a play-based approach. ... Attached are some of our play spaces which have been modified and reflected on based on the children and their learning capabilities and developmental age and stage.
01.01.2022 SAFE PLACE: REGULATING OURSELVES Some children can find it challenging to calm down from experiencing intense emotions. While many children learn to naturally regulate themselves, some children require additional support to manage this. As adults we oftentimes use calming/relaxing strategies such as yoga and breathing techniques, which can be quite abstract to children but equally useful. Educators and I have put together a basket of items aimed at supporting children to cal...m down by helping them to engage in relaxing activities that are visual and hands on. The safe place is being gradually introduced and supported to use when a child looks like they may be getting stressed or subsequent to an incident. The idea is that educators support the child to select an item and support to engage in the guide eve of explaining their emotions and relate them to an expression.
