15.01.2022 In 1990 Trustees were appointed by Softball Victoria Inc. to establish the Marjorie Nora Dwyer Scholarship trust dedicated to the memory of a great ambassador o...f softball. Marjorie (Marj) Dwyer devoted most of her life and loyal service to the game of Softball. After the Second World War, she maintained an interest in the Air Training Corps for which she formed a softball team, the Wingers, which played in the Melbourne competition. In 1962, Marj was instrumental along with Esther Deason and Merle (Shorty) Short in securing the first Womens World Championship for Australia in 1965. In the lead up to the series she worked full-time on sponsorship and fundraising. She was able to do this because she had received a modest inheritance upon the death of her mother in 1940. In 1966 Marj, Esther and Shorty were awarded Life Membership of the Australian Softball Federation. In 1957 she took on the Presidency of the Victorian Umpires Association.Softball became her life and she worked voluntarily to promote the game teaching young children or university students. In 1968 she was elected Umpire-in-Chief for Australia. Marjs 30 year service to Australian National Championships saw Marj attend over 130 tournaments including the role of UIC at the inaugural Open Mens Nationals in Sydney, 1985. Marj passed away on May 3rd, 1990 and was posthumously appointed to the newly established Softball Victoria Hall of Fame in 1993.

12.01.2022 We made it! We’ve reached the top of the Good Sports program and are an exemplary sporting club in creating healthy attitudes. Our involvement with this great program is designed to give our club the best family-friendly environment. One that sets great examples for our members young and old. The Good Sports program is Australia’s largest and longest-running health initiative for community sports. It guides clubs through a process that’s primarily focused on responsible... alcohol consumption. The program involves three levels and we’ve achieved them all. Level 3 brings together all the great work from the first two levels and now we have a comprehensive alcohol management policy. This will open up opportunities for gaining more club members, spectators and sponsors, along with an improved environment for children and families. We want our club to become a more enticing place to locals, supporters and also to visiting clubs. Being part of the Good Sports program is a great way to keep our club healthy and reduce the risk of alcohol-related incidents. The program helps us to: Attract new members Model good behaviour for younger club members Create a safer and inviting club environment Reduce or avoid alcohol-related incidents Be healthier and more connected. We’re committed to ensuring we have ongoing success by checking in with the Good Sports team yearly. This will make sure our policies are up-to-date. To find out more about the Good Sports program, speak to the club committee or go to www.goodsports.com.au. See more
