25.01.2022 Some good news: the DHHS has announced that restrictions for Allied Health will be changing on Monday 28th of September. It will be a welcomed reprieve for our practitioners and our valued clients. We are still unable to take routine patients, however, we are no longer required to only treat patients under an emergency, essential basis. What this means is that if your pain has deteriorated and will continue to deteriorate as a result from a delay of care during stage 4, t...hen you will be able to come in for a treatment during this time to tide you over until restrictions fully ease. The DHHS has stressed to us that it is not business as normal, and that we still need to be aiming to reduce movement within the community as much as possible, so if your care is for maintenance or routine care, we will requireyou to wait until a full easing of restrictions. If your condition does deteriorate in the meantime, please make sure to reach out to us to be screened over the phone for eligibility. We will be doing our best over the coming days to contact patients who have requested to be notified by phone regarding changes. If you have an appointment booked in during this time, we will get in touch only if that appointment was booked in as a routine appointment. We are looking into re-opening our online booking once we have a screening tool in place so that we can confidently be following DHHS guidelines. Thank you so much for your understanding during these difficult times, we are looking forward to the future easing of all restrictions. Together, we've got this. Yours in Health The team at Keilor Health Centre

24.01.2022 It's Breast Cancer Awareness Month (1-31 October). Over time, women with metastatic breast cancer may need help to do all the things they would normally do at home or at work. It can be difficult to come to terms with a loss of independence. However, accepting help and support can help women save their energy for the things that are most important to them. 23.01.2022 Today marks 6 weeks since Melbourne went into Stage 4 lockdown, and whilst we were hoping that Osteopathy appointments would be resuming as they were under Stage 3, unfortunately that hasn't come to fruition. We are optimistic that our community has done a fantastic job of following the rules, and that restrictions on our business will be lifted in the near future. We understand that this has been difficult for many of our patients, especially those whohave held off thei...r regular appointments during this period. We have missed having you all in the clinic as well!!! But we must abide by the regulations from the DHHS and the Stage Government in order to be able to remain open for immediate essential care patients and do our part to stop the spread of COVID-19. DHHS classifies immediate essential care patients as allied health practitioners providing services that prevent a significant change/deterioration in functional independence necessitating escalation of care (e.g. a requirement for specialist input/review, an increase in care needs and/or alternate accommodation, avoiding a hospital admission or emergency department presentation). If you believe you fit the criteria and require an essential appointment, please call the clinic to discuss and be screened over the phone. As with all of 2020, the government announcementsare unpredictable, and things change rapidly. If you're appointment has been booked in over the next fortnight, we will be contacting you 2-3 days prior to your appointment todiscuss your progress and assess your eligibility to access face to face services at this time. Keep an eye out for our emails; as soon as we are able to treat as we were, we will let everyone know via email, online booking will be reopened, andthose who requested phone contact will receive a call from our reception staff. We've come so far, we can do this if we stick together Yours in Health The team at Keilor Health Centre

19.01.2022 New research reveals resistance exercise training can have a life-changing effect on the mind, able to relieve anxiety in young adults. After a whirlwind year that's put mental health through the wringer, these findings give people actionable steps to strengthen muscles and help their brain too. People should be encouraged to perform resistance exercise sometimes known as strength training involving major muscle groups two or more days a week, explains study co-author... Brett Gordon. "Equipment can be helpful, but not required, People can lift weights, use resistance bands, or use body-weight exercises such as push-ups, lunges, squats, etcetera." #ExerciseisMedicine #ExerciseRight Courtesy of ESSA You can find the study here: https://www.inverse.com/min/strength-training-anxiety-study

08.01.2022 Welcome Jess! Keilor Health Centre is excited to welcome Dr Jess Loughnan to the clinic! Jess is a structural based osteopath who treats with intention, care and warmth. After graduating from RMIT University she spent 3 months working in hospitals across India as an osteopath, working alongside one of the countries leading knee surgeons Dr. Anant Joshi. This gave her a valuable insight to pre and post operative care for orthopaedic patients. On her return she worked in two d...ifferent clinics within Melbourne for a number of years before leaving Australia again to work in London. She became a registered osteopath in the UK and began work in an inner city clinic, before coming home to Melbourne earlier this year. Jess enjoys treating a wide range of conditions and complaints, including but not limited to; neck pain, lower back pain and postural complaints. Jess is available for bookings on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons as well as every Saturday. We look forward to having Jess as a part of our team at the clinic!

06.01.2022 Unsurprisingly, many of us have been feeling more than a little stressed lately! But stress manifests itself differently from one body to the next, so how might seeing an osteopath help you with your own stress? At your appointment, your osteopath may evaluate and assess how the physical aches, pains and discomfort you're presenting with may actually have been triggered by your stress levels. Through providing you with clinically-informed information and advice helping you to... understand your body better, your osteopath may offer strategies to bring down your stress levels and reduce the load on your body. This may include recommendations for specific lifestyle adaptations, a new exercise or fitness program, or a referral to a specialist.
