25.01.2022 At 'The Shack' in Nambour - Pastor Dale and his inspiring team do an amazing job providing the basic necessities for those facing some life challenges (meals, hot showers, or simply someone to talk to and connect with) - keep up the great work! (they rely on community food donations to operate, so if you can help, please do so)
23.01.2022 CHANGE OF PLAN!!... Electoral Commission Queensland has done a review (of the review) of Local Government boundaries - Division 10 essentially reverts back to its original coverage - LOSES Bli Bli and Woombye, GAINS Dulong to Kenilworth, and Yandina to Eumundi to Belli Park... Looking forward to meeting with residents in these areas and discussing the important local issues... you can also email me at [email protected] if there's anything on your mind... cheers, K
23.01.2022 Congratulations to the organisers of Nambour Tramfest for putting together an amazing Christmas Street Party (special kudos to Councillor Greg Rogerson who seemed to be everywhere during the afternoon’s preparations). Lots of great craft and food stalls, live entertainment and a visit by Santa Clause (and the storms stayed away!). Thanks to those who stopped for a chat while enjoying the night’s festivities.
23.01.2022 ANNOUNCEMENT: I am confirming my intention to stand as a candidate for Division 10 at next year’s Local Government election. The ECQ are proposing significant boundary reconfigurations for the Sunshine Coast and I have a long and strong connection to the new Division 10 stretching back five generations. My mother’s family settled in Woombye in the 1870’s and I grew up in Bli Bli where my father’s family settled in 1912. Right in the heart is Nambour where I was born, played s...Continue reading
21.01.2022 Great to catch up with nearly 70 school mates at the Nambour High Class of ’79 Reunion held at Tranquil Park, Maleny. Hard to believe it has been 40 years since we graduated. This was our 4th reunion and they seem to get better (and go later into the night!) each time. The quiz about the school and 1979 happenings was both fun and challenging (because the questions were hard - NOT because our memories are failing??) It was a pleasure working with Cathy, Peter, Ute, Leigh and Tammie on the committee to bring it all together (Peter was as always a great MC on the night, being his usual witty self) looking forward to the 45 year reunion already!!
20.01.2022 Great to catch up with everyone at our annual family descendants reunion at Woombye (the numbers are getting bigger!) - my great great grandparents were associated with Cobbs Camp Hotel in the 1870's
18.01.2022 Proudly attended a family gathering after the official naming of Colin Dalzell Mackay Bridge over Petrie Creek in Bli Bli - named after my grandfather.
15.01.2022 Hope to see you all at the Nambour Tramfest Christmas Street Party in Howard Street tonight - a fun community event with lots of great food and entertainment for the whole family - come along and help support bringing the tram back to Nambour (drop in and see me while you're there)... cheers, Keith
14.01.2022 Our Class of ’79 Nambour High School reunion on January 25 2020 is getting closer hard to believe it is 40 years since we completed grade 12. Our committee (Keith, Tammie, Cathy, Ute, Leigh and Peter) promise a great night of reminiscing and lots of tall tales and true (what we can remember that is!) this is our 4th reunion and they are always a special night.
14.01.2022 The hardworking Nambour High School reunion committee - 40 years since we left school and we haven't changed a bit (??)
14.01.2022 It was a night full of pleasant surprises at November’s monthly Long Table Dinner held at the Old Ambulance Station in Nambour. Hostess Ludmila made guests relaxed and welcome during the evening and calmly dealt (with the help of Robyn and co.) the roofwater that entered the building during the storm. Herb captivated everyone with his rendition of ‘Ballad of Thunder Road’ with springed (not stringed) accompaniment. Guests brought gifts to donate to Nambour Community Centre for those less fortunate at Christmas. I also caught up with school buddy Cherry and dear family friend Bob who has returned from overseas. These events help make a town a community.
13.01.2022 With the dynamic team Jack, Di, Kate and Gillie at Kanyana Park Dulong (Dulong is my great, great grandparent’s patch) showing the ‘reward’ of our labour on Clean Up Australia Day (organised by Kureelpa and Dulong Neighbourhood Watch) - on the up side, thanks to all those across the country who gave their time and energies to make a positive difference on the down side, very sad that there are those among us who disrespect their environment and just don’t care
13.01.2022 Do yourself a favour and drop into Claudio and Jodie at Chadwick’s Kitchen in Currie Street Nambour café by day serving tasty snacks, meals and beverages (takeaways and catering also), Italian restaurant on Friday and Saturday evenings - Jeannie and I thoroughly enjoyed the 3 course Valentine’s special recently superb!
13.01.2022 Hi all! Local Government elections are being held in March 2020 and I’m getting back on the horse, standing as a candidate for Division 10. This has been my family’s patch for 140 years and it’s time to give something back to an area that has given so much to me. Jump on board, get the word around and share the ride with me!
12.01.2022 A positive vibe at the Nambour Chamber of Commerce AGM held this week at Beach House Hotel in Currie Street. Timothy Smith and his enthusiastic team are looking forward to continued strong engagement and networking and are optimistic and excited about the potential and future opportunities for Nambour. Was great to catch up again with Mark Bray and Brian Bugenhagen. Best wishes to the Executive and Board for the year ahead.
11.01.2022 Under the stars in the grounds of Yandina Historic House for the Yandina community carols this wonderful family event is presented by Yandina Baptist Church (and nearly $1000 was raised for the Maroochy River Firies and Buy-a-Bale Chinchilla). My beautiful mother-in-law Pat thoroughly enjoyed singing along to the carols but sadly passed away the following week.
11.01.2022 Running as an independent candidate for Fairfax at the 2016 Federal Election was an incredible experience.
11.01.2022 One of my passions is bringing people together connected communities are stronger (and importantly safer) communities - the great outcomes achieved by our Neighbourhood Watch groups are a fine example of this fostering strong partnerships between police and the community to minimise illegal activity - I had the chance to spend some time with Rod, Tony, Ken and team at Burnside 5 NHW recently they are constantly looking at evolving (new initiatives, getting information to the people most efficiently, maintaining relevance, growing membership) to keep this important programme realising it’s full potential keep up the great work
09.01.2022 With Terry, Mark, Robyn and Kerry at the recent Nambour Chamber of Commerce Christmas breakup. Nambour Bowls Club hosted the evening which featured lots of great prizes in the raffle and superb catering by Jodie and Claudio of Chadwick’s Kitchen. Wishing all the Nambour business community a very prosperous 2020.
09.01.2022 'Council’s involvement in the round table forum addressing increasing homelessness on the Sunshine Coast is certainly welcomed but also an admission that it’s develop-at-any-cost mantra is failing sections of the community, particularly those already most vulnerable . Pursuing rapid population growth without first locking in essential built/social infrastructure and services has many negative consequences including social/community disconnection and underemployment. Council’s ‘exclusive’ rather than ‘inclusive’ strategy is having adverse effects surely it is more responsible to limit the cause, rather than remedy the effects.' (extract from Sunshine Coast Daily October 30 2019)
09.01.2022 Supporting the 'Keep It Natural' beach walk run by Coolum and North Shore Coast Care and Friends of Yaroomba as a fundraiser towards the court appeal against the (strongly opposed by the community) Sekisui approval.
08.01.2022 The Nambour Museum is a must-see for long-time locals (to reminisce) and new-comers alike (to appreciate the important role that Nambour and District has played in the development and prosperity of the Sunshine Coast). There is a wide variety of interesting displays including the sugar cane industry (my highlight was seeing the steam loco ‘Bli Bli’ which hauled our family’s cane, now returned to her former glory) and one of the best heritage telecommunications displays in Australia. Pleased to hear that many school groups tour the Museum regularly. There are exciting times ahead also with planning underway for extensions which will incorporate a new display area with lift and amenities. Special thanks to Clive, Steve, Cherry and Graham for the guided tour and the volunteers for your tireless work.
07.01.2022 The Kenilworth Community Transport Service is an important initiative presently being trialled with assistance from SCRC it provides transport within and beyond the town limits for those who might not otherwise be able to get around - this is particular important as no other public transport exists locally the health, social and economic benefits are obvious (other local governments are monitoring the KCTS with the hope of introducing a similar service in their areas). Thanks to David, Amanda, Shirley, Adrienne and Graham for providing information about the service it must continue and be adequately supported but will need some refinements to reach it’s full potential. Thanks also to Leanne and team at Nanna McGinns for the great coffees.
06.01.2022 At The Store Eumundi for the Eumundi Chamber of Commerce Christmas Business Breakfast with Cindy, Kate and David. Guests were treated to a hearty breakfast (and The Store’s award winning coffee) during presentations by Bamik Baker (Experience Eumundi), Alain Bouvier (photographer) and a robust discussion regarding streetscaping and parking issues with Councillor Greg Rogerson.
05.01.2022 In Yandina at Goodness Gracious Organic Café with Nigel and Kahren from Yandina and District Community Association there is certainly a lot happening in the area and it was great to get their views on a number of important issues.
04.01.2022 Lots of positives from this week’s Yandina Chamber of Commerce meeting. The enthusiasm of John O’Leary and his hard-working committee must be contagious judging by the large number attending, including several new faces. The food and refreshments served by Henri and his team at Bar Deco was first class. Cindy Turner and Chris Scott got the guests thinking with an excellent interactive visioning workshop. The Chamber is obviously heading in the right direction.
04.01.2022 Dulong and Kureelpa God’s country!! Easy to see why my great, great grandparents James and Mary Dalzell settled here over 100 years ago special thanks to Gillian Hall of Dulong Futures, and Di Fitzgerald and the residents of Woodland Place for sharing the important local issues at our recent meetings.
02.01.2022 Merry Christmas from the Campbell family - wishing you all wonderful times with family and friends, and loving memories of the special ones in our hearts
02.01.2022 A big shout-out to our amazing wildlife rescue and rehabilitation groups who are putting in the hard yards across the Sunshine Coast at present. These volunteers work around the clock to give injured and orphaned animals the best chance of recovery. On top of the normal challenges faced by our wildlife, the devastating effects from events such as the recent tragic bushfires are often overlooked. The resources and resolve of these groups are certainly being tested at the moment - keep up the great work your work is vital and your efforts appreciated.
01.01.2022 Maroochy Sailing Club celebrated it’s 60th anniversary with a pirate party on Chambers Island. Guests loved the bush dancing and reminiscing about seasons gone by. The club has been a part of my life for over 40 years and it was great to catch up with other Life Members and past commodores who were there in force. Maroochy is a fantastic family club and head pirate (current commodore) Craig Stanger and his crew are ensuring booming membership numbers with strong junior ranks also. Congratulations to Gard Saunders and David Thomson who were bestowed Life Memberships in recognition of their tireless work for the club.
