24.01.2022 Hi friends of my page. Just so you are aware, I am now a registered member of the Australian Association of Clinical Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy (AACHP) and no longer registered with the Australian Hypnotherapists Association (AHA). I decided to make this change based on a number of factors which are likely not of much interest to you. It still means that I have to meet certain professional standards and you can continue to be assured of the quality of my training and my continued adherence to high quality service. As a part of this change, I have had to reapply for my provider numbers. I will hopefully have these reinstated by May 1st. In the meantime, I am not registered for health insurance rebates. My apologies for any inconvenience.
24.01.2022 Hi followers of my page. I do a lot of work with clients who have habits, addictions or behaviours that they want to get rid of which often came about in the first place because of a desire (whether conscious or subconscious) to avoid certain thoughts, feelings and experiences. Its amazing what can change when you allow these thoughts, feelings and experiences acknowledgement and space to play out as they need to (supported by a good therapist if needed, of course). This is a simple, yet powerful message from an inspiring man and Im so glad I saw it in meme form! Now I get to share it with you :)
24.01.2022 We are now into our second month of the year! Did you make any new year’s resolutions? How are you going with them? As you might be aware, I’m not a fan of new year’s resolutions; I used to make them, but most of the time the goals I set were unrealistic, and more often than not, I found myself failing at making any meaningful long-term changes. I would berate myself for this, seeing myself as less than others who seemed to be doing much better than I was, asking myself wha...t was wrong with me, thinking to myself that I lacked willpower. I know now that there’s nothing wrong with me. Instead, I was thinking about it in the wrong way thinking that I had to find some so called mythical force called willpower inside of me in order to be successful. Over the next 4 weeks, I'm going to post weekly about why willpower is a myth, why you don’t need it anyway, and what you can do to help yourself be free from old unhelpful habits and behaviours and create new helpful ones. Stay tuned for my weekly Anti-Willpower Tips for Positive Behaviour Change

22.01.2022 Wishing you all a happy new year. If youre affected by the fires, I understand thats probably not what you need to see or hear right now. To you, I hope that you and your loved ones are keeping safe. Even that feels woefully inadequate... Hopefully, we can stand together to see significant (governmental) change this year
21.01.2022 Kelli Tranter Hypnotherapy will be specialising... (Long post ahead! Skip to paragraph 5 for the reveal!) As youre likely aware by now, those of you who follow my posts, Im passionate about body positivity and staunchly anti-diet. I also love working with children in my business and have worked with children as the major part of my career in various community services roles spanning 20 years. Ive thought for a while now that these are the areas I would eventually speciali...se in, if I was to do so at all. But Ive chosen another client group... Im now coming up to 5 years as a Clinical Hypnotherapist and Ive seen hundreds of clients with a variety of reasons for seeking therapy. Ive learnt so much via my ongoing education, other wonderful therapists, many hours of reading and research (well, not formal research as such, more Googling!) and, of course, my clients. And now Im working with an amazing business coach who is helping me to see the value I can give clients by focusing my attention on a particular client group and creating a program for them. Ive avoided advice like this before, seeing it as more of a money making ploy, even having seen people call themselves "experts" as a business strategy when I know theyre not, yet theyre encouraged to do so via certain training programs (which still makes me angry). I suppose without the experience I have now, I felt it would have been inauthentic of me to specialise in the past. Just FYI: You will never see me refer to myself as an "expert"; in my opinion, each client is their own expert. I just perhaps know some other stuff that can help them to become an even better expert! Upon consideration of the work Ive put into this particular area, the knowledge Ive gained about how to work with clients with this issue, the amazing successes Ive been a part of, Ive chosen to specialise in working with clients with Trichotillomania, more commonly referred to as compulsive hair pulling. This will eventually extend to Body Focused Repetitive Behaviours in general such as skin picking and nail biting. This doesnt mean I wont work with anyone else! It just means that Trich is an issue I am so confident in working with, and very interested in continuing my own learning about, that Im in the process of putting together a focused program, creating an offer, and building awareness of this via Facebook and, eventually, a website. If you know anyone who might benefit from my experience with this, please feel free to share this post, or point them to my page. Im aiming to have things up and running within the next month or so. Thank you for reading! Ill keep you posted

20.01.2022 Bianca Skilbeck is well known for her wonderful work with clients with body image issues and eating disorders. Im pleased to be able to share her recent presentation with you. "Body dissatisfaction, disordered eating and fat-shaming are on the rise. Our cultural preoccupation with dieting and achieving the thin ideal only perpetuates and contributes to this. Did you know that body image consistently rates as one of the top 3 issues of concern for young people in Australia? What can you do to help our culture to reverse this destructive cycle?" Bianca Skilbeck.

18.01.2022 Hi friends of my page. Its been a while since I posted (as usual!) so I thought Id say hi and share some photos I took of Torquay beach yesterday evening whilst walking our beautiful dog - what a lovely way to relax in this gorgeous place :)
17.01.2022 Hi friends of my page. I have been seeing clients lately for issues around alcohol use. Mostly those wanting to decrease the amount they drink and stop using it as a stress relief strategy. Mindfulness and hypnotherapy can be very helpful in addressing the stressors that lead to excessive consumption of alcohol. If you or someone you know might be interested in more information, please feel free to contact me :)

15.01.2022 A great reminder for anyone planning New Years resolutions this year! As observed by Mayo Clinic experts, "moms are probably the most important influence on a ...daughters body image," surpassing the impact of other significant influencers such as media and peers. Given the importance of mothers as body image role models, Dr. Leslie Sim, clinical director of Mayo Clinics eating disorders program, recommends that they avoid talk about weight, diets, and outer appearances around their daughters. "Zero comments not only about your daughters weight, obviously, but zero talk about your weight and even other peoples weight," says Sim. Rather than focus on weight, parents can model healthy behaviors for their children such as eating a balanced diet and exercising regularly. Its also important to talk with young girls about natural changes in their bodies, especially as girls approach puberty and may experience normal weight gain during this development period. To help instill the importance of loving yourself in your Mighty Girl, regardless of your size or shape, weve shared two dozen empowering books for children and teens in our blog post, "Celebrating Every Body: 25 Body Image Positive Books for Mighty Girls," at https://www.amightygirl.com/blog?p=10912 For two great books for children about the importance of loving yourself, we highly recommend "I Like Myself" for ages 3 to 8 (https://www.amightygirl.com/i-like-myself) and "The Confidence Code for Girls" for ages 8 to 12 (https://www.amightygirl.com/the-confidence-code-for-girls) For an excellent guide focused on body image issues for teens 13 and up, check out "The Body Image Workbook for Teens: Activities to Help Girls Develop a Healthy Body Image in an Image-Obsessed World" for ages 13 and up at https://www.amightygirl.com/body-image-workbook There is also a helpful new guide to help teens build a healthy relationship with food, "The Intuitive Eating Workbook for Teens," at https://www.amightygirl.com/the-intuitive-eating-workbook-f If you have an older Mighty Girl, we recommend books to help girls navigate issues related to puberty, including normal changes in weight and body shape, in our post on "Talking with Tweens and Teens about their Bodies" at https://www.amightygirl.com/blog?p=11090 Thanks to Grrrl for sharing this great image!

13.01.2022 It's that time of year again. It seems particularly meaningful this time, perhaps, given the challenges we've all faced, some more than others. I feel like I've been lucky - not a lot changed for me other than working from home. I know this was not the case for many whose lives were upended in ways I can barely imagine. To you, my heart goes out I thought about writing about what I've learnt from this time. Perhaps an essay about human resilience, adaptability and courage. ...But I just dont feel like it. And many others will have done this beautifully, better than I could. Upon reflecting on this last year, part of me feels disappointed, disheartened, angry at our leaders, at the prioritising of dollars over people, and more. But is there any point right now? Instead, do I work on letting go, putting this energy into supporting others, thank my lucky stars that in my everyday life, I'm ok? And I can focus on the selflessness and courage demonstrated throughout this year of adversity by many truly wonderful human beings. I think that's what I'm learning - to let go. 2020 perhaps showed us in stark detail that no matter what you do, you can't always be prepared or in control or predict an outcome. Can I learn to surrender to the moment? I'm not sure I'm ready for that just yet... Goals 2021! To you, I hope you're ok. I truly hope you can move forward this new year in a way that honours all that you've been through and that supports your well-being
13.01.2022 My website is now live! Here's the link if you'd like to check it out: https://www.kellitranter.com.au/ The focus is on help for hair pulling and I have listed an offer on the site. Any feedback you'd like to provide, I'd love to hear it, positive, negative or anything in between I'm kinda nervous too. Just wanted to put that out there because it's okay to be nervous!

12.01.2022 Welcome back to my weekly anti-willpower tips! I believe wholeheartedly that this next tip is the key to behaviour change: Tip 3 is practicing mindfulness. Mindfulness allows you to sit with whatever is happening internally without having to act upon it - you simply observe without judgement. By practicing this, the power and intensity of the old habitual behaviour, the need to satisfy some internal state, begins to decrease. You begin to see it for what it is an object i...n your awareness, a story you tell yourself. There’s no need for avoidance, distraction or willpower; the desperation you once felt to do the thing you don’t want to do anymore starts to drop away the more you simply observe it. I'd be interested to hear your opinions on this. Have you used mindfulness as a strategy? How did you go?
11.01.2022 Its that time of year again. Perhaps youre reflecting on what was achieved or not achieved, something you gained or someone you lost. Do you think about where you are on this journey at this time of year or are you content just to be on the journey? I experienced both gains and losses this year as perhaps we all did. The move toTorquay was one of the highlights of this year. I feel like Im home. Its been challenging, starting again in a new place, but Im so happy to be ...here. As for losses, my Clinical Supervisor and teacher, Cas Willow, passed away a few days ago. She made me better at what I do, Im sure of it. I didnt know her outside of school and the supervision arrangement, but I admired her and respected her and I always felt like she boosted me somehow; my confidence, my regard for myself. She had a firm, but gentle way about her and I will miss her guidance dearly. My thoughts are with her family and friends during this time. This year coming, well, I dont know what to expect. I made a plan for this year last new years and things happened as they happened, whether I planned them or not. I had new ideas, old ideas and sometimes I took action and sometimes I didnt. This time, Im just going to go with the flow; the flow of ideas and the action that follows naturally. What happens if we just let go of expectations? Less stress, less guilt, less anxiety, more presence in each moment, more connection with others, more kindness towards ourselves and others...? If youd like to share any thoughts about how 2017 panned out for you or how you envision 2018 to be, please comment. Wishing you all a safe and happy new year :)

09.01.2022 I just finished watching this and honestly, Im feeling quite emotional - in a good way - a processing things kind of way. Ive struggled with body image stuff since I was 7. Im now 43. I thought I was close to being okay with it all, but some days, if Im honest, Im not entirely there yet. This was one of those days. If youve ever disliked or hated your body, or put it through the hell of one diet after another, weight up and down and round and round, starved yourself tr...ying for some so called "ideal" that some designer or magazine or movie star or diet company or anyone else told you you should be to be beautiful, watch this. Please. Soon. And know this: You are beautiful. Because youre you.
09.01.2022 A good friend of mine has organised a fantastic event to raise money for victims of the bushfires. It includes a silent auction and an auction (non-silent??) with all items donated, one of which is a hypno session with me! If you can, get down to Aspendale Cricket Club this Wednesday evening. From what Ive heard so far, it should be an awesome night Edit: Click the link below for details. It is working; it just looks weird for some reason... https://facebook.com//fundraising-event-/442131949999503/
08.01.2022 Hi friends of my page. I mentioned a transformation a little while ago, and to be honest, Im still nutting things out. Thank you for staying tuned if you have been! Id like to share with you now what I am exploring... I would like to focus my work on body positivity; helping others to feel a genuine love for and acceptance of their bodies at all sizes, shapes and abilities. There are other aspects of body positvity to include as well, some of which I may not be fully aware... of, so I am currently focusing on educating myself and making sure I am inclusive. This means that I will moving away from a purely weight loss approach and towards a focus on health and well-being at all sizes that is right for each individual. This, of course, might include weight loss, but it is a positive side effect (if its a desired goal) of the work rather than the focus. Given this change, I have been considering changing the name of my business and was waiting until I had come up with something I really like before updating, but thats just taking too long! If anyone has any suggestions, Im certainly open to hearing them! I will still be offering other services, some of which probably still fall into this realm anyway if you think about it, such as help for anxiety, fears and phobias, Body Focused Repetitive Behaviours, and addictions. Ive just made the decision that I dont want my business to contribute to perceptions of the "ideal" body as perpetuated by diet industry and media etc etc. Im passionate about being inclusive of all bodies and truly believe that we can stop fighting our bodies, stop hating our bodies and, instead, live our best life embracing our perfectly imperfect bodies. If you have any thoughts on this, Id love to hear them. Thank you for reading if you got this far! :)
07.01.2022 This article was shared in a group Im a part of and Im sharing here because I think its helpful to look at other explanations for peoples behaviours in response to current circumstances rather than just "people are selfish". Ill admit that Ive struggled a bit to understand some of the behaviour going on, especially because I work with homeless people (my other job) who end up even more disadvantaged in times like these. Here, the author offers an easy to understand exp...lanation of panic buying behaviour, as well as some strategies for those affected and those of us who are trying not to be. If youre feeling overwhelmed, anxious, panicked, or anything else thats not sitting right for you, please reach out to someone. There are lots of us out there who might be able to help, and many of us do appointments online. And if its not therapy you want or need, reach out to a friend. Never underestimate the power of talking it out! https://theactgroup.com.au/covid-19-complex-trauma/
06.01.2022 I've created a Facebook group for anyone with Trichotillomania and/or other BFRBs, people with a family member or loved one who experiences these, as well as therapists and practitioners who work with clients with these issues. There will be NO selling, just a supportive and informative space. I would also like to invite anyone who has successfully overcome Trichotillomania or other BFRBs to join to share your wisdom. Please share with anyone who you think might benefit from this
05.01.2022 Happy new year! I thought this article might be a nice change from some of the usual resolutions https://everydayfeminism.com//12/body-acceptance-resoluti/
05.01.2022 I know its been a while since Ive posted anything here! (Surprise, surprise - its not my best skill!) Ive noticed theres been a lot of views of my page recently so I thought I should let you know that I am still around and practicing. I hope you and your loved ones are keeping safe and well. Please reach out if you feel you need support and that I might be able to help

04.01.2022 Did you know that this week, starting today, is BFRB Awareness Week? So to do my part in raising awareness about Trichotillomania and other Body Focused Repetitive Behaviours, I'm going to put up a post each day sharing with you something I have learnt about BFRBs through my direct work with clients. I've learnt a lot about Trich and other BFRBs from reading and others' research. But perhaps one of the best ways to learn is to step into the world of someone with this conditi...on. The knowledge gained from clients is invaluable - really, this is how one's practice improves the most. I know that I wouldn't have come to this point in my journey as a therapist, where I feel confident to specialise, if not for my clients. Just so you know, I won't be posting any individual or identifying information about clients as all sessions are confidential. The info will be framed as what I've learned and how this has helped shape my practice. I hope you find it interesting and perhaps even helpful for you or someone you know. If you Twitter (I don't - surprise surprise!) there are a number of hashtags for BFRB Awareness Week. Check out the TLC Foundation at www.bfrb.org for lots of info and activities. I'll share my first BFRB What I've Learnt From Clients post later today. Please feel free to comment - I'd love to hear what you think
04.01.2022 Healthy and fat... you have no greater risk of developing certain health issues than anyone else Edit: As a personal attest to this, I once weighed 120kgs, size 20, with no health issues: no diabetes or insulin issues, very low cholesterol, normal blood pressure, healthy heart, bloods all good. I ate a healthy vego diet and exercised moderately most days. The issue for me was medication side effects: I gained a lot of weight very quickly and felt this wasnt right for me*. ...Yet I was told by numerous doctors I saw for help that it wasnt the meds and, instead, I should stop eating so much and exercise more. This is a dangerous message some in the medical community continue to give to some of us seeking help. If I had eaten any less and exercised more, I would have been starving myself and consequently putting myself at real risk of major health issues. I hope that if you experience something like this from your doctor or medical professional, this post (and others like it) can help to empower you to stand up for yourself to get the care and treatment you deserve. *If you are on meds with weight gain as a side effect, Im NOT suggesting you ditch them without proper consultation. I did a lot of looking into this before I made the decision to cease the meds I was on and had other support to do this. https://www.abc.net.au//health-impacts-of-weight-/11728522
03.01.2022 My number 2 anti-willpower tip is: Make small changes, slowly. Even very small changes, very slowly! Once you have identified a goal, it can be challenging not to try to do all the things at once to get there. But this can be overwhelming for your brain; to change direction when it’s already mapped out the previous pathway so thoroughly. Give your brain a small detour and let it start exploring the new territory gradually. Give it time to draw the new map, filling in the de...tails thoroughly instead of just a rough sketch. It will be much easier to find your way back to that new path next time. Then you can explore more new pathways, building on the first and creating a detailed map of that new territory. After a few months, that old map can then be chucked in the bin! I'd love to hear your experiences with changing unhelpful behaviours! Please feel free to share if you feel comfortable to do so
03.01.2022 So for the last couple of days, Ive pretty much done as little as possible: I havent done much work or worked on any business stuff I probably should be working on (I took one phone call); Ive slept in til almost lunch time; Ive not done any exercise; Ive watched TV and eaten biscuits; Ive spent too long scrolling on Facebook. I havent spoken to any friends (except my sister via text); I havent practiced guitar or started any of the courses I said I was going to do. ... Theres a part of me that feels really guilty about this. A part of me worried about the "shoulds" - being productive, what I havent read, havent learnt, havent achieved. And Facebook scrolling doesnt help that guilt with the multitude of toxic positivity posts about being productive during this time, the multitude of posts about courses I can do, routines I should implement. And God forbid I put on any weight! Thats the true end of the world - that we all get fat during isolation! Then I step back and say (to myself and maybe to you): Its okay. Its okay if I sleep in; its okay if you do too. Its okay if I put on weight, and its okay if you do too. Its okay if you dont learn that language, play guitar like a rock star at the end of all of this. Its okay if you dont achieve all of your goals (or even just a few) in this time. Please, just take care of yourself. Take care of your loved ones. And go easy on you! You are not how productive you are; you are not what you get done in this time. You are much, much more than that. For some people, making the most of this supposed "gift" that I keep reading some others saying we have been given - meaning time out for us from work, to be with families, to heal the environment etc etc - is not feasible in the least. For some, they are battling to survive and being told to "be more productive" can create added anxiety and stress that is just not helpful. In fact, it can be downright dangerous. So next time you see one of those posts and you feel the guilt welling up (like me), perhaps you can tell yourself that its okay; you are doing the best you can in this time and sometimes that best is watching TV and eating biscuits.
02.01.2022 Did you know that those who easily create and maintain helpful habits don’t use willpower; they simply enjoy those habits more than you do. The ease of changing a habit or behaviour has been shown to be linked to upbringing, genetics, socioeconomic status, support networks, stress levels and mental health. So it’s not a matter of forcing yourself to not do one thing and do another and then berating yourself for failing. Nobody ever made long-term meaningful and comfortable ...changes by telling themselves off! Recognise that there are lots of things that all came together to create your experience, good or bad or somewhere in between, and that at your core, you are a human being who deserves to be treated well. So my number 1 anti-willpower tip is: Be kind to you! Stay tuned for more anti-willpower tips...
01.01.2022 BFRBs What I've Learnt From Clients - Day 1 of BFRB Awareness Week: Not all clients who experience Trichotillomania like or enjoy the sensation of pulling out hairs or lashes. For many, they experience a feeling of relief or release which feels good. But for some, they don't experience this and the behaviour is a distressing, unwanted compulsion that seems, on the surface, to serve no purpose. Of course, we can asume that all behaviour serves a purpose whether we know what this is or not. We can work on uncovering the purpose to make meaningful changes.
01.01.2022 Last Sunday, I did some training with the very experienced Clive Girdham on working with PTSD using hypnotherapy. It dawned on me today that itd probably be a good idea to let you all know! If youre interested in how this might be helpful to you, please feel free to contact me. Heres a picture of us during training on the roof at Hypnotherapy HQ (who hosted the event).

01.01.2022 Help for Compulsive Hair Pulling Trichotillomania is a condition characterised by strong, compulsive urges to pull ones hair. Some people pull their hair or play with it, whilst others will pull hair out, typically from their scalp, eyelashes and/or eyebrows. This sensation can allow the person a feeling of relief from stress and/or anxiety. People who suffer this condition typically experience a feeling of being out of control of the behaviour, as well as feelings of shame ...and embarrassment, especially if they experience resulting bald patches or physical injury to their hands, wrists and neck. And some clients I have seen have thought the behaviour to be rare or that they must be the only ones which adds to these feelings. Ive seen many clients (children, teens and adults) with this issue, as well as other conditions under the umbrella of Body Focused Repetitive Behaviours (compulsive behaviours that are focused on the body causing physical harm and/or changes in the bodys appearance) and have researched and honed my treatment process using a combination of Counselling, Hypnotherapy, Habit Reversal Training and Mindfulness. Many of my clients have significantly decreased or ceased these behaviours after only a few sessions, sometimes even one session* For more information, please feel free to contact me for a no obligation, free phone consult. You can find all my contact details on my Facebook page. *Please note: Results can vary and duration of treatment in relation to success is dependent on factors such as stress, anxiety, mental illness etc. I recommend at least 3 sessions including a focus on and commitment to working on overall stress management. I may also recommend other mental health supports.
