25.01.2022 Qantas did it! The Flying Roo made history by successfully completing the world’s first non-stop commercial airline flight from New York to Sydney. The (10th) brand new Qantas Dreamliner touched down in Sydney on Sunday after 19 hours 16 minutes in the air covering nearly 16,000 kilometres. Data from these experiments will be used to help shape the crew rostering and customer service of Qantas’ ultra long haul flights in the future, including Project Sunrise.... Pilots had their brain waves, melatonin levels and alertness checked and passengers got up and about for special exercise classes. Cabin lighting and in-flight meals were also adjusted in ways that are expected to help reduce jetlag, according to medical researchers and scientists. Night flights usually start with dinner and then lights off. For this flight, they started with lunch and kept the lights on for the first six hours, to match the time of day at their destination. Overall, we’re really happy with how the flight went and it’s great to have some of the data we need to help assess turning this into a regular service. - Qantas Captain Sean Golding Two more research flights are planned as part of the Project Sunrise evaluations London to Sydney in November and another New York to Sydney in December. Emissions from all research flights will be fully offset. Lots of exciting things are always happening in aviation!
23.01.2022 AUSTRALIAN TRAVEL STATUS MAP Australia is slowly re-opening. The Australian Government has outlined a national three step plan to relax restrictions imposed to contain the coronavirus. Travel and social distancing restrictions won’t be immediately lifting everywhere, though, with each state and territory moving forward at a pace that best suits their own individual circumstances. Use the map below to find out where you can holiday.
22.01.2022 WHAT'S NEXT FOR VIRGIN AUSTRALIA... Virgin Australia Looking Likely To Be Sold By June: But Who To? Administrators working through the sale of Virgin Australia (VA) have told creditors they have a number of high-quality parties interested and are hoping to sell the airline by the end of June.... Administrators at Deloitte told 1300 creditors present via video link at a meeting in Sydney yesterday that they had received a number of bids several high quality parties interested in buying the airline. Speaking after the meeting, lead administrator for Deloitte, Vaughan Strawbridge said: Eight have signed non-disclosure agreements and negotiations are continuing with another 12. While official names were not mentioned, it’s believed parties interested in buying the airline include Australian private equity group Ben Gray, American specialist airline investor Indigo Partners and Canadian investment group Brookfield. Andrew ‘Twiggy’ Forrest is also reportedly considering making a bid with the West Australian billionaire mining magnate believed to be putting together a consortium to take over VA. Temasek Singapore’s sovereign wealth fund which owns Singapore Airlines, one of the current majority owners of Virgin Australia is also believed to be on the list. VA is 90 per cent foreign owned with Singapore Airlines, Etihad Airways and Chinese conglomerates HNA Group and Hanshan owning 80 per cent between them while Richard Branson’s Virgin Group still owns 10 per cent. Indicative offers are now due in about a fortnight with Binding offers will then be required in June, said Mr Strawbridge. We remain confident that our target of achieving a sale by the end of June is achievable, said Mr Strawbridge. The airline went into voluntary administration on April 21 due to a mounting debt cloud, owing almost $7 billion to more than 12,000 creditors. It’s believed that $1 billion is owed to customers in future flight bookings and credits owing since COVID-19 began. About 9000 staff work directly for Virgin Australia with up to 15,000 jobs at risk should a decision be made to streamline the airline to service its debt. Our objective is to restructure and refinance the business so it emerges stronger on the other side of the COVID-19 crisis, Mr Strawbridge said. It’s still early days, yet I’ve been encouraged by the level of sophisticated party interest in the sale of Virgin Australia. The next meeting will take place on August 22 and the hope is that by then, a new owner for Virgin Australia will be in place.
22.01.2022 Being a travel agent I rarely stay at the same hotel twice, it’s always good to see and experience a new property. However I had to make an exception and as usual Ritz Carlton Millennia did not disappoint. I love the views and spacious rooms but what the photos can’t capture is the exemplary service and incredible little touches that are constantly and discreetly added to your room or done to enhance your stay. Thank you for another fabulous experience! ___________________________________________________________ #ritzcarltonmilleniasingapore #singapore #marinabay #roomwithaview #holiday #luxuryhotel #grateful #marriott #instatravel #travelgram #visitsingapore @ The Ritz-Carlton, Millenia Singapore

20.01.2022 VIRGIN AUSTRALIA HAS BANNED ALL APPLE MACBOOKS FROM CHECKED LUGGAGE, FOLLOWING A WORLDWIDE RECALL ON PRO MODELS OVER A RISK OF BATTERY FIRES. The airline announced that all MacBook laptops, regardless of model, must be placed in carry-on baggage as a safety precaution. This comes after Apple issued a voluntary recall on older generation MacBrook Pros in June due to units being at risk of overheating and causing fire.... The airline has issued a notice on its website in the dangerous goods section, which reads: Due to a worldwide recall by Apple of a number of Apple MacBook batteries, ALL Apple MacBooks must be placed in carry-on baggage only. No Apple MacBooks are permitted in checked in baggage until further notice. Virgin Australia defines dangerous goods/hazardous materials as items or substances that may endanger the safety of the aircraft or guests on board. Earlier this year, Apple determined a limited number of 15-inch MacBook Pros contain a battery that may overheat and pose a safety risk. Effected units were sold primarily between September 2015 and February 2017 and can be identified by their serial number, the manufacturer said in a statement. Customer safety is always Apple’s top priority, and we have voluntarily decided to replace affected batteries, free of charge, Apple said. The tech giant noted that the recall does not affect any other 15-inch MacBook Pro units or other Mac notebooks. However, Virgin Australia is banning all MacBook models from checked luggage due to the difficulty in determining different models. The safety of our guests and crew is always our highest priority, a Virgin spokeswoman told Travel Weekly. Due to the worldwide recall of some Apple MacBooks, we are requesting all guests take their Apple MacBooks in their carry on luggage as a safety precaution. Qantas has also implemented a similar ban, but just for MacBook Pro models as per Apple’s recall. Until further notice, all Apple MacBook Pros must be carried in cabin baggage and switched off for flight following a recall notice issued by Apple, a Qantas Group spokesperson told Travel Weekly. The move by Virgin Australia comes after the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) introduced a similar ban, instead opting to ban specific MacBook Pro laptops in checked or carry-on bags.

What does it mea...n? Well, that all depends on what you want it to mean. Now is the time to really think about what you want to stand for, post-COVID-19. 14.01.2022 LTI Luxury Travel Intelligence has unveiled what it is calling the Decade’s Best New Luxury Hotels, featuring a list of 10 uber-luxe resorts, retreats and hotels around the globe. Unsurprisingly, the most populous location for a trio of the properties is the picturesque Maldives, but other destinations in the list are cosmopolitan locations such as Paris, London and Tokyo, and some more slightly less mainstream spots such as Cambodia, Cape Town and Fiji. LTI is a global, ...members-only organisation, providing digital reporting for affluent travellers who wish to make informed travel decisions, based on highly detailed intelligence. This has been an extraordinary ten years for the global luxury hotel sector, with constant development and huge ‘money is no object’ investment taking place, bringing the luxury traveller a vast choice of superb new properties and admittedly, some disastrous ones, the organisation said. Saying all are truly outstanding, LTI Luxury Travel Intelligence determined ‘the perfect ten’ in no particular order as:

10.01.2022 JETSTAR AND QANTAS ARE OPENING UP MORE INTERSTATE ROUTES FROM JUNE: There is certainly no confirmation that domestic travel will return by next month, but Jetstar and Qantas have started opening up more domestic routes from June. While the Aussie airlines hadn’t cut their domestic routes completely, they are now adding more domestic routes back from June 1.... This includes flights to and from Darwin from all capital cities in Australia. Jetstar is also resuming daily services from Perth to Melbourne from June 1. Both the Northern Territory and Western Australia have done extremely well in managing COVID-19. The Northern Territory has been most successful, recording no deaths from the virus and absolutely no community transmission. In fact, the Northern Territory will become the first state to resume some sense of normality with all businesses set to reopen over the next five weeks. This doesn’t mean people from other areas of Australia will necessarily be able to enter the Northern Territory (although Qantas and Jetstar’s flight offerings may suggest otherwise), but Territorians should soon be able to travel around more freely within their state. As to when domestic travel resumes across Australia, well only the federal government can confirm when those travel bans might be loosened. One thing is for sure though, we certainly won’t be taking domestic travel for granted again!

05.01.2022 My thoughts are with all of the businesses and people affected by COVID-19, my friends and strangers who have already lost their jobs as well as my disappointed clients who have had to postpone or cancel their travel plans. Over the last month I withheld on booking any new international travel for clients during the next 3 months and immediately contacted clients to keep the communication open. This resulted in having no clients stuck overseas or with partially travelled hol...idays. I’ve never seen circumstances change so quickly and have been so relieved that my clients are safe, with all domestic travellers returning home this week just in time for the borders to be closed. I have now cancelled all of my clients travel up until the end of May and will be following the guidelines and procedures to cancel the remaining bookings as this unfolds. I have also provided information and/or booked flights for people who had not booked through me so that they could get home safely. This clearly shows how valuable our services as travel advisors really are. I have the same booking systems that the airlines use with live availability on flights. I am not an internet site. I answer the phone. I call you back. I sit on the phone at all hours of the night calling overseas making sure clients are safe (I am usually more worried about my clients than they are). I can hold seats and ticket later - giving people the time to figure out the best plan. I’m here to look after my clients My business may slow down for a while, but I will be here at the end of this This has been a great reminder for people to book their travel with someone who cares, not hand over your credit card details online to a company you don’t know and you can’t contact When the dust settles... You know where I am! In the meantime stay safe and healthy (physically and mentally). Thank you Kelly
05.01.2022 DREAM STAY: Tahiti's new luxury accommodation International borders are closed, but that can't stop us from dreaming! The first floating luxury villa in The Islands of Tahiti to launch...... Nothing says tropical holiday like an overwater bungalow, and ELYT Charter Tahiti just took the concept to the next level with the release of their concept floating villa/houseboat/catamaran. The charter company has released new images of their soon-to-launch ultimate luxury houseboat; a four-bedroom floating presidential suite with a 360-degree rooftop lounge that will give guests the opportunity to take in the stunningly beautiful nature of The Islands of Tahiti. The first floating villa in Bora Bora will be able to accommodate up to eight guests with its 120 square metres large area across two levels and is decked out with four bedrooms, two bathrooms, a fully-equipped kitchen, dining area and a rooftop with breathtaking views surrounding the boat at all angles. With the environment of Tahiti in mind, it has been inspired by ‘ancient Polynesian voyaging canoes’ and is eco-friendly by running on solar power. The absence of a diesel engine makes it silent, and also helps to keep coral and other marine life calm and comfortable. It has its own water treatment facility to reuse water and only has a thermal generator for emergencies. It was also designed and built in a local shipyard, which ensure that the carbon footprint is next to nil. A stay on the yet-to-be-named houseboat gives travellers the opportunity of exploring the little slice of paradise that is Bora Bora, and the opportunity of travelling onwards to the rest of the 118 islands that make up The Islands of Tahiti. With striking scenery that ranges from lush jungles and high mountain peaks to vibrant coral reefs, and offering activities of all types, Tahiti truly is the perfect destination fit for every type of traveller and what better way to experience it than on its stunning waters. The floating villa is currently available for rent for bookings for when it has been launched later this year for AU$2460 per night.
05.01.2022 FEDERAL GOVERNMENT ANNOUNCES INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL BAN FOR ALL AUSTRALIANS Today, Wednesday 18 March, the Federal Government has advised all Australians regardless of destination, age or health not to travel at this time. The Government’s advice, do not travel, is now at the highest advice level (level 4 of 4). Both the Department of Foreign Affairs and Smartraveller websites confirm that the Level 4 advice applies to all international destinations, and also urges anyone cur...rently overseas to return as soon as possible by commercial means. As more countries close their borders or introduce travel restrictions, overseas travel is becoming more complex and difficult. You may not be able to return to Australia when you had planned to. Consider whether you have access to health care and support systems if you get sick while overseas. If you decide to return to Australia, do so as soon as possible. Commercial options may become less available, Smartraveller.gov.au According to the Smartraveller Website, the advice has been issued on two principle reasons: 1. There may be a higher risk of contracting COVID-19 overseas. You may come in contact with more people than usual, including during long-haul flights and in crowded airports. Health care systems in some countries may come under strain and may not be as well-equipped as Australia’s or have the capacity to support foreigners. You may not have your normal support networks overseas. 2. Overseas travel has become more complex and unpredictable. Many countries are introducing entry or movement restrictions. These are changing often and quickly. Your travel plans may be disrupted. You may be placed in quarantine or denied entry to some countries, and you may need to self-quarantine on return to Australia. Think about what this might mean for your health, and your family, work or study responsibilities. I am currently working in departure date order to cancel or amend your bookings. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you Kelly

03.01.2022 ALAN JOYCE: THREE THINGS YOU CAN EXPECT FROM AUSTRALIAN AIRLINES POST COVID-19 Click on each each image to see what Qantas CEO Alan Joyce expects Australia's aviation industry to look like post-Covid-19? Here’s his take in full....... A lot of people are wondering what the travel market in Australia will look like by the time people start flying again. There’s a lot we don’t know, particularly around timing, but here are three things I think we can be pretty certain of. Life will be different as we come out of this crisis. Recovering from the economic impacts will take time for most companies and individuals. But if this period of isolation has taught us nothing else, it’s how much we value seeing people and places. And that’s why aviation will remain so important!
