25.01.2022 Friday night...working on the opacity. Can anyone tell what has changed from my last feed post?
24.01.2022 Video showing some of Elvis the gang gang cockatoo's details. Reference photo by @paulabowler4 (see story!). 122cm square acrylic on canvas. Number four of six Aussie parrot/cockatoo's.... DM enquiries.
23.01.2022 Sunday end point. Maybe 4 hours today and it doesn't look like much! Still lots of details to go on the new layer.
22.01.2022 Where I stopped on Saturday. Looks half way to me! I also can't stop messing with the red. I've actually put more purple in it. Can anyone tell?? The grey feathers are also more challenging than anticipated. Of course they're not just grey... There's green, red, yellow... So many undertones! And still some washes to go over all.
21.01.2022 And it's Good Friday! Little intermediary piece for a friend before starting on bird five. And by start I mean background which is going to be yellow do will need lots of coats for opacity. I do love yellow but I haven't actually found a paint brand that gives good coverage! This wee wren is 30cm square and the reason why I don't do little pieces often. Anyone care to guess?... Highlights to go!
15.01.2022 Progress update before a palette change and a coffee.
15.01.2022 Happy Tuesday! Still photo of where I stopped on Sunday, albeit with poor indoor lighting.
14.01.2022 Ok I feel like I'm rushing him now. Lots of work to do on his chest. But most of his feathers have been put in so I can visualise where to place lights and darks. Also need a lemon wash over his chest to give that warmth as his still a bit grey. @ Adelaide, South Australia
14.01.2022 Waffly justification of why he's not done... the incomplete galah painting.
13.01.2022 Aaand bird five sketch down! I think I'll block this one in tonight too. But update post tomorrow. I need to find all my pinks and magentas.... This one feels like a "Wally"... Weird how some get names early haha! Hope everyones having a fabulous Friday night!
11.01.2022 "Freedom" 30cm acrylic and posca on canvas. This little superb fairy wren boy is the star of the show. The lines actually represent a cage that he is finally free of. Gold accents provide a richness and interest from different viewing angles. The yellow lines also accentuate the blue feathers.... Apt considering this is a work farewell gift! Read into THAT what you will Swipe for a couple of mock up scenes using @artroomsapp for scale. Hope everyone's having a fabulous Easter long weekend! @ Adelaide, South Australia
08.01.2022 Elvis the gang gang cockatoo, is now done! Four of six complete! 122cm square acrylic on canvas.
06.01.2022 Approximately three hour session overall Friday night culminating in the under-painting of Wally the galah. It will be important to highlight this one to distinguish the subject from the busy background. I am hoping that once the gold starts to go in that it will keep the attention on the bird... I also think I might do a yellow wash over the background just to soften it a little. Photographer Sheila Smart, has granted me permission to use her image as a painting reference. ...I'll pop it in my Stories later today so everyone can see where I'm going. Same size as the other four parrots (122cm square acrylic on canvas).
06.01.2022 Saturdays progress. Swipe or see my Story for the reference photo! @ Adelaide, South Australia
02.01.2022 Happy Easter! Updated finish post for "Freedom" the splendid fairy wren boy. I added some pink on request and I got the scale wrong yesterday as it's actually 40cm square, not 30cm Acrylic and posca marker on canvas. Swipe for Easter appropriate mock up scene using @artroomsapp . ... The lines represent a broken cage. Metallics accentuate the bird and cage from different viewing angles. This is actually a farewell gift to a work colleague and is not available. DM enquiries if anyone's interested in anything similar. @ Adelaide, South Australia
