25.01.2022 To all the females who have: Run a little faster in the dark; I see you. Checked for an exit when entering a night club, I see you. Tolerated an objectifying comment from a boss, I see you. Bit their tongues when male students talk about their d**ks and balls, but I cannot stand to hear us speak honestly about our period; I see you. ... Kept their mouth shut when a male cat called on the street, for fear of inciting violence, I see you. Fumed when female sporting teams are described as caring and fun, while male sporting teams build leadership and character, I see you. I see you who were not believed by their teachers, parents, bosses, co-workers, and peers. Enraged, hurt, bewildered, and afraid. I see you. I feel you. Maybe this will be the moment we turn things around. Perhaps this will be the moment we make lasting change. These are five ways we can make a start, some simple, some more complex. What else can we do? I would love to hear your ideas or examples.

25.01.2022 Anyone else having those Monday back to school feelings? I would rather be floating around with this school of snapper in Rangiroa, French Polynesia, again! Wait for me! Wait for me!

24.01.2022 Learning new things can be hard sometimes. Just like this little elephant calf was struggling to his tusk to slurp up the Chobe river. Sometimes you just have to face plant and dive in to get the sweet waters.

21.01.2022 Look at that beautiful pose! These creatures are almost like puppies, giant puppies. 21.01.2022 @brisbane_flight_charter enjoying exploring every inch of this Catalina that well missed the runway in Tahiti. Wreck dives always have a special aura to them, looking into the past buried below the sea. #wreck #underwaterphotography #underwater #diving #scuba #wreckdiving #story

21.01.2022 This little whale was having a whale of a time throwing his fins in the air and doing barrel rolls near the surface. Filling the view with bubbles before diving down to check on mum. 20.01.2022 Reinventing, Reinterpreting, Reviewing. Work in progress, (in)appropriate, a collaboration with @sonia_pryce , an artist, dancer and friend. Sonia's work looks at challenging ageism in dancing, the long-held narratives of youth, beauty, and age weighing on the field. We met in 2013 when a colleague suggested I might be able to help her produce some footage. Walking into the studios, a larger than life projection on the wall and a plan to capture the body of her former self ...dancing across her shift dress as she reinvented herself. Time spun forward, and we would come together again in 2015 and 2019the worldwide pandemic, quarantines and shifting of life to an even more digital space made me reconsider this piece and desired a new edit. Can we create space for new narratives of body, age, and dance in the absence of physical performance? I shared the first cut with Sonia a few days ago, will share more with you soon. We are scheming up something new too! You can find our original collaboration and those since at https://www.soniayork-pryce.com . . . . . . . . . . . . #Dance #aging #doesthedancinghavetostop #artist #experimenting #ballet #dancevideo #dancing #videoart #agingdancer

20.01.2022 Hoping to see some of these beauties next week! While it will not be in the current rich waters off the coast of Komodo Island, like this moment was, it will be wonderful to sink into the blue once again. The somersault by the way helps them stay in a single spot. Thousands of Manta Rays are killed each year for their gill plates for use in Chinese Medicine, in a trade estimated to be worth $30 million. However, in 2014 Indonesia banned the fishing and trade of these beautifu...l creatures, instead during the lifetime of one manta ray it can earn local economies 1 million in tourist dollars versus $500 dead. (National Geographic) . . . Thank you to @jennalearead for letting me clip on to her for the footage. Only 3 years in the making.

19.01.2022 Happy Mothers day to all the mums out there! Puppy-mums, plant-mums, whatever style of mum you wish to identify as! For there are so many who tried to be a mum, who have suffered loses, who have found other ways to nurture, I am thinking of you too. This is my action mum in her happy place. She is stubborn and independent, loves the company of a book, fiercely enjoys a breakfast in bed, or really any meal cooked for her. She loves to come on our adventures and instilled that joy in finding new ground/seas from a very young age. I am eternally grateful for what she gave up to raise us. #happymothersday #mothersday #sunday #puppymum #plantmum #ocean #diving #greatbarrierreef #coral #underwaterphotography #photooftheday #gratitude30

18.01.2022 This beautiful reef manta was a born model, bouncing around between his bubbling scuba paparazzi, in-between stops at the cleaning station. Definitely, a test for your breath holds when they decide it is your turn for the close-up, for fear of scaring him off with a big burst of bubbles on the tummy. Fun fact, mantas have the largest brain to size ratio of any cold-blooded fish, making me wonder if he was just checking himself out in the reflection of my dome. . . . @ladyell...iotislandecoresort #ladyelliotisland #manta #ray #reef #underwaterphotography #photooftheday #closeup #greatbarrierreef #maninthemirror #scubadiving See more

18.01.2022 Because of you, I laugh a little harder, cry a little less, and smile a lot more. - unknown author The minkes whales are thought to come to the Great Barrier Reef from their usual homes in the Antarctic to socialise and find partners. 17.01.2022 Two brother lions came tearing over the hill, when they heard a couple of hyenas in hot pursuit of a couple of jackels catching their lunch. Gotta be quick in the Krugar! The brothers were a bit late, so they decided to have a little siesta in the late morning heat. They were cooling down, tongues out in the long golden grass.

16.01.2022 With the wild weather enveloping most of Australia today, I thought I would share a sunnier view. My sister riding her BCD, soaking up the hang time on the edge of a coral garden while we waited for pick up after a long cruisey dive in the shallows. Stay safe, ride that flotation device, hang tight and think of the farmers rejoicing over la Nina!

15.01.2022 Now, this is my kind of party, relaxing in the sunshine on the hunt for some snacks! These schooling bannerfish were chilling in one of the channels that lead to Rangiroa atoll's inner lagoonenjoying the sun with their slightly bigger snapper friends, while their predators had a mid-day nap.

15.01.2022 Gimmie some fin, now noggin, dudeeeee - Crush, Finding Nemo. Pretty much sums up my feelings about Lady Elliot this past week. This cutie of a sea turtle was just cruising through the lagoon in search of some grub, quiet happy to have a big awkward mammal tag along for the ride. 15.01.2022 You never know what’s going to float into view out on the edge of the reef! This shoal of squid flitted and danced in the sun rays, waltzing to their own tune. All the same size a perfect chorus line of squid ballet. Photo @kellymacmedia Location @ladyelliotislandecoresort

14.01.2022 Every once in a while, if you are lucky, if you brave new introductions and awkward smiles, a new soul steps into your world. And something magical happens, like the evaporation of ice into the air. ... They lift your spirit, they bring joy, their laugh echos in yours, sharing in your pursuit of dreams. 11.01.2022 Floating on the edge of the reef on Lady Elliot Island, I was just starting to contemplate the chill that was settling into my wetsuit on a crisp windy winter afternoon. Perhaps I should head to shore or at least closer to other large warm-blooded mammals. When this beautiful creature began to appear out of the deep blue. There is nothing quite like the anticipation of spotting a slice of white in the darkness. One deep breath and I meet this beautiful creature in slipstream ...above the sand and coral. Floating on the southerly current, the reef manta rhythmically moving almost in slow motion while I tried to keep up. Perhaps knowing I was quickly running out of oxygen, my momentary friend moved slightly closer to the surface. As if to say, you might need to go up there you silly-looking dolphin. Then back breathing air, I watched as they glided away only to turn around. We made a final deeper pass below meone last glance before disappearing into the inky hazy blue of late afternoon. . . . . . 10.01.2022 These two were hanging out in a little oasis of sand amongst the coral surrounding Lady Elliot Island, diving down for a meeting on the sand really made me want some gills so I could chill out amongst the outcrops with the ray and the emperor. 07.01.2022 HELLO HUMANS! A minke whale coming to say hi to the floating humans on the Great Barrier Reef. 07.01.2022 Hope shines from the threshold of the year to come. Whispering ‘it will be happier’... - from Robin Hood and Maid Marion, Alfred Tennyson This beautiful manta came to visit me on the edge of the reef on lady Elliot island under the last rays of sunshine. Floating alone in the cold winter waters the hazy blues turning inky in the fading rays, you start to whisper to the deep, the sound absorbed, the water lapping at your ears, an act of hope. A ritual of hope. #snorkeling #ladyelliotisland #australia #mantaray #mantra #underwaterphotography #wildlife #wildlifephotography

06.01.2022 The giant grouper, or Queensland grouper, and his little stripy friend (who I believe is a pilot fish). Their faces sun up my feelings on current world and local events, and I think I will stay underwater with them until I can sort out my thoughts. We meet on a murky day, the water thick with algae normal to the warm seas of Australian summer. You can choose the metaphor, but here we go into the haze not sure what we will run into now. . .... . #2020 #lizardisland #greatbarrierreef #diving #scubadiving #grouper #underwaterphotography #wildlife See more

04.01.2022 Teaching through the lens for the past 9 weeks somewhat feels like this moment, you keep your energy up in the cold water for hours, in hopes of catching that momentary magical moment of pure curiosity and engagement. I am grateful for the students who showed up each week eager to learn and talk, sharing in vulnerability as we peered through the looking glass together. This one is for you. I look forward to getting to peer over the edge of the frame, as I did seconds after this shot to feel the moment not wide-angled and behind the bulky housing. #gratitude #teaching #minke #whales #savethewhales #ocean #underwater #mindfulness #teachingfromhome

03.01.2022 Missing my baby sister today. My sister is down in Melbourne, safe and snug as a bug with her puppy. But stuck and far away from muddy garden renewals, coffee in the sea breeze, waterfall seeking, and baked good smells from homemade packages. There is a subtle sadness there, in knowing I cannot just jump in a plane and hold her squished beneath my encapsulating arms. Many are far worse off, but it eeks in, in waves, in silent moments usually filled with giggles or plans unmad...e. There is a presence in the restriction. I know it is for the best. But that chill of sadness cannot be silenced, only felt and new plans made.
