22.01.2022 TRAVEL AGENTS MEETING WITH PREMIER MCGOWAN... Are we really all in this together? This Thursday 13 Aug 2020 a group of travel agents are meeting with the Premier to represent EVERY travel agent in WA and all of us desperately request your assistance. We are not asking for borders to be opened, we are asking for acknowledgement of the services we are providing and seeking financial assistance for this service while we effectively remain under a trade embargo. Our industry ...was denied this assistance in a meeting with Minister Paul Papalia (Tourism & Small Business Minister who will also be at the meeting) on the 15th of June where it was explained to him that every other State had provided a financial package for which travel agents were eligible. Our WA State Govt. advises this is a Federal issue and while I agree this may be the long term solution, I also believe this State as every other State has already done, would have an obligation and should show a responsibility for us during this unique and unprecedented situation especially given their comments that our State is doing better financially than any other. Why are travel agents less deserving than other industries that have already received assistance from the State (the arts, building, mining, tourism, innovation to name a few)? If we are truly are all in this together, why would the industry hardest hit, who will be the last to recover and who has worked nonstop since day one navigating the nightmare that has become refunds and credits for our West Australian clients not receive assistance? Why would we not be singled out for hardship and for the important task we are performing; retrieving the billions of dollars in refunds that can be repurposed in Australia? I have not had any viable income since March and yet I continue to personally pay, including using my Jobkeeper, to cover my overheads to perform this public service. WA is doing very well but some of us and our businesses have had to suffer disproportionately to others for the health and safety of us all. Many of you have shown empathy and kindness over the past six months and for this I am truly grateful. Like 70% of other Australians, you have shown that you value the services of a travel agent. PLEASE give your support and take action when it is most needed by contacting the relevant Government departments and endorsing your choice to use a travel agent and our cry for help for financial assistance before our meeting with the Premier on Thursday. 11.01.2022 Heres something to think about!! Why do people think they get ripped off from Travel Agents? Is it just that they havent found the right one? I often see posts on Facebook and wonder why didnt they contact me to take care of their booking??... I hear all the time "But its cheaper online!" But really is it?? Thats the misconception surrounding our industry. There really is more than cost to think about when booking your travel. More often than not we are more competitive and way more courteous and professional than the internet. We build relationships with our clients and offer an service that the internet cant match. What happens when things go pear shaped? Whose there to help? My clients can call me direct 24/7 Certainly an online booking will not offer a direct link to a passionate and available Personal Travel Manager who cares about you and is there to support you all the way. 05.01.2022 As the World Shut Down, I went to Work! Back in March, many travellers who did their own travel booking online would have heard a message like this Your call is important to us. All our representatives are currently assisting other customers. Your estimated wait time is two to three hours. When they finally were able to speak to a live person, in many cases, they were not offered much help. Did I have this message on my answer phone? ... NO I was available 24/7 What the pandemic has taught us is that having a Personal Travel Manager to help plan your trip has made our value more apparent. I, along with all my colleagues at TravelManagers Australia worked tirelessly around the clock to get our clients home safely, applied for refunds or credits for future travel and helped them rebook a future trip. We truly served as an advocate for them and did everything we could to help protect their travel investment. It required long hours, and no earnings. It was the most challenging time of my 23 year travel career. My obligation was to take as much worry away from my clients as possible. As much as I wish I were making sales instead of refunding trips, I had to do the right thing for my clients. My focus was on walking clients through all their options to postpone versus cancel so they could make the best decision for themselves. I made it 100% right for each and every one of them! Despite the impact the corona virus has had on the travel industry, I am remaining optimistic about the future of my business. I’m focused on preparing for the surge in travel I know will come when my clients feel it’s safer to travel. I know it will take some time for the travel industry to fully recover and that travel will look a little different, but I know travel agents will play a huge role in the industry’s resurgence. With guidelines and policies varying by destination and supplier on an almost daily basis, it can be a lot to process by yourself. Travel agents will be key to helping travellers navigate this new world and provide guidance on safe destinations and activities. If clients who are going to travel want to know they will be safe, that’s what we are here for. It’s our mission to ensure everything is in place, protected and safe. When it goes wrong, you have someone advocating on your behalf to protect your travel investment.
