25.01.2022 What do you think about the new Bridgewater Bridge being prioritised as part of the Hobart City Deal? Is it a well-balanced approach boasting value for money and promoting the future of Tasmanian Transport at this vulnerable time? The Australian and Tasmanian Governments have committed $576 million for a new Bridgewater Bridge. Did you know this is the largest investment ever on a single transport infrastructure project in the whole of Tasmania’s history?... https://www.transport.tas.gov.au//south_/bridgewaterbridge

25.01.2022 12 days ago our Minister for housing Jaensch issued the Interim Planning Directive No. 4 Exemptions, Application Requirements, Special Provisions and Zone Provisions. A directive that comes into effect today, arguably blindsiding professional planners, experts, councils and community advocates who are all working towards better planning in Tasmania. The new planning directive also affects local residential standards including:... No maximum limit on impervious surfaces (concrete or roof space) leading to increased potential flooding issues and hotter living environments; No requirement for sunlight into habitable rooms or gardens; Bigger sheds allowed with no permit required; and Removal of rear boundary setbacks impacting privacy and shadowing. See PMAT (Planning Matter Alliance Tasmania) for ways to advocate! *Below is a pic of the wall erected in Sao Paulo Brazil highlighting the division between rich & poor... the rich can afford things like decent ‘setbacks’ which in turn leads to more privacy, safety & overall better wellbeing.

20.01.2022 Its been an honour to work for the Mental Health Foundation Australia as the statewide Tas Project Officer during this challenging time. It wasn't in my plans to do so at the start of the year (I was a volunteer ambassador) but neither was COVID, so i’m blessed to have been called upon to use my skills when needed most - Feeling chuffed! PS. Here’s a post worth clicking on (one of my last with MHFA) and don’t forget that you can stay abreast of our work and the support sessions/opportunities via the MHFA TAS fb page :)

20.01.2022 Glenorchy City Council is designing and building two new and exciting regional play spaces located at Montrose Foreshore Community Park and Giblins Reserve in G...oodwood. In March, Council invited you to share suggestions through an online survey and input was provided by specialists as well as through the Council’s special committees and their networks. Did we get it right? We have used the community feedback to develop draft playground designs that reflect the visions, ideas and preferences of our community and now invite you to view the draft designs and tell us what you really think. View the plans online, leave a comment or make a more detailed submission by going to our website... https://www.gcc.tas.gov.au/ or visiting the project page Email at: [email protected] Or Call Council on 03 6216 6800 and ask for the playspaces project team :)

19.01.2022 The Glenorchy Intercity Cycleway is used by many members of our community of all abilities and ages. The cycleway is a popular route for people who use mobility... scooters and wheelchairs to access our city. The Glenorchy Access Advisory Committee is a special committee of Council committed to ensuring that Glenorchy is accessible for everyone. The Committee's Top Passing Tips for using the cycleway: Keep left unless you are passing If you need to pass someone, be polite and use your bell or horn You can also say things like 'Passing' 'Coming through' or 'Approaching' This lets users know you are there and everyone can be safe and feel respected on the cycleway. 19.01.2022 The motion to investigate the removal of planning powers from local government was defeated at a meeting of the sector's peak body LGAT. Motion Vote Results: Defeated (lost) 16 for, 39 against & 2 abstained The motion read That Burnie City Council move at the March 2021 LGAT General Meeting that the LGAT investigate an amendment to the Land Use Planning and Approvals Act 1993 to: ... 1) delete the mandatory requirement for a council to act as a planning authority for purposes of determining an application for a permit to use or develop land within its municipal area; and 2) provide as an alternative, the establishment of an independent development assessment panel to determine a permit application. The Glenorchy City Council Mayor voted in favour of this motion, as outlined in the questions of the most recent council meeting agenda. Please note that the LGAT voting process has a weighted system i.e. it is not always 1 vote per council, City Councils often have several.

14.01.2022 Honoured to be elected Chair of the Mental Health Foundation Australia Multicultural Ambassadors Program Tasmania 2020 at such a crucial time for our community and the organisation. I look forward to working with both the national and local teams in aim of supporting this area further via these important duties. FYI... The goal of the program is to further engage multicultural and aboriginal communities to have better access into the mainstream community. We do this via the ...promotion of positive mental health & well being, and through a network of dedicated volunteers throughout Australia. The program provides community leaders with an official platform to coordinate Mental Health related programs within their communities, and will promote genuine opportunities for meaningful professional development. Our Multicultural Ambassadors range from professionals, doctors, students, youth leaders and business people, all who’ve demonstrated a key commitment to their community and a passion for grassroots change. If you or anybody you know fits the above criteria (especially potential Youth leaders) and would like to help out, please get in touch! Because as we know, it sure does take a village

14.01.2022 What's on my mind fb... egos, intolerance & political careers driving government agendas (our Pollies). This all for 1 attitude has forgotten the '1 for all' le...adership we as a community are owed. It directly leads into the way desicions are communicated to the public, often skipping the vital facts in context or chastising those who have criticised/challenged them... oh and always putting themselves first. If I didn't know better I'd say they are hiding something... like a real ability perhaps. Never before have I seen such low community engagement & awareness (advocacy) regarding the bill's and laws that impact us most. I also understand why, sadly... it's strategically facilitated to occur this way, saves time (and genuine considerations). If I can give you one piece of advice, it would be to carefully scrutinise all decision makers and genuinely 'get to know' them and their level of awareness around the issues you care about most. Most people can read big words from a piece of paper, but can they present the fact on the fly... do they really understand the issues (its not hard to test this). Consider all responses against the issue holistically, assess the WIIFM... the 'whats in it for me/them' or their future career plans, especially if in politics. For sadly I have learnt that all is not as it seems & more often than not. Be the change you wanna see ah Thanks for the recent inspo pic Lila Landowski

13.01.2022 Waste-Ed Wednesday: Do you know why you can only put loose items in the recycling wheelie bin? The recycling facility will send anything in a plastic rubbish... bag to landfill, and that costs us all. Every recycling truckload is examined for contamination, and if there’s too much (e.g. plastic rubbish bags, general waste, food and organics) then there’s a penalty fee, and the whole truckload gets rejected. And, as with all wheelie bin contamination, rates money then has to pay to get it trucked back and buried in landfill. So please, no plastic bags (of any kind!) in the recycling bin. Reminder! Recycling bins are being randomly audited by contractors in October. Contaminated recycling bins may not be collected from the kerb. Are you a good sort? 12.01.2022 The first fully comprehensive (one-point) Online Resource for Mental Health that covers most aspects and issues is super great to share with family and friends. It’s ability to filter through a vast array of relevant ‘current’ news and information, while amalgamating this to suit the current day is more than well-timed. And don’t forget to check out the Mental Health Foundation Aust...ralia’s online support groups, programs and sessions too! http://onepoint.mhfa.org.au/#/

12.01.2022 Glenorchy City Council is developing its first urban tree strategy to provide direction for the management of trees on Council land in the urban area of the City of Glenorchy. This is long overdue considering the impacts of climate change and the quality of environment provided to our community overall! Trees provide multiple benefits including shade, beauty, clean air, human health & well-being, flood reduction, food and homes for wildlife... not to mention shade and canopy ...cover to help address the ever growing ‘heat’ problem in glenorchy (compared to Hobart and other tree covered area nearby). To help us develop our urban tree strategy, we want to know what you think. What are your priorities when it comes to trees in our urban areas? Please share with your networks https://letstalk.gcc.tas.gov.au/urban-trees-in-glenorchy

08.01.2022 Don't let this one slip through while there's a pandemic on! The Major Projects & Tas Planning Commission Review is going ahead and the public submissions are due in today! In short, all developments will by-pass elected and local representatives (the grassroots community facilitators) and go straight to Mr Gutwein himself with little - no formal process requiring input or say from any of us (you, independent bodies or local government).... If you care about transparency and the independence of Tasmania’s planning system... and our democracy, then now is the time to make two critical submissions. We cannot defend our planning system, opportunity to 'have a say' and democracy without you. So instead of complaining later... make your point known by submission now & do what you can to safeguard your community from high-risk large-scale developments (if warranted) and encourage your family and friends to do the same. https://www.planningmatterstas.org.au//tpc-review-submissi

05.01.2022 An early state election has been called, what does this mean for Glenorchy City Council? The Mayor recently announced she is campaigning for the local seat of Clark and will be standing down from her mayoral duties during this time, effective Friday 2 April 2021. Our current deputy Ald Bec Thomas will then be Acting Mayor during this time. If the Mayor is successful, she will officially cease to hold office as the Mayor & Alderman of GCC. This would also commence the proceed...ings for a GCC by-election in order to fill the vacant Alderman and Mayoral roles at Council. Alderman Thomas would also be the Acting Mayor of GCC until the result of the local by-election for Mayor is known. If unsuccessful in running for the state, the Mayor has also indicated that she will continue on in her role as Mayor until the October 2022 local government elections are scheduled to be held. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mSmSZGLcNLU

02.01.2022 GASP defunded. Last night the Glenorchy City Council voted on a report that was not on its Agenda. It was ‘tabled’ at a closed session without GASP having seen it and without any notice to the community. Council then released a statement to the media at 9pm last night - but not to GASP.

01.01.2022 Always nice to get.. but the opportunity to help the sector as the state project officer (volunteer ambassador) during this time was most invaluable. The Tasmanian Homelessness & Mental Health Symposium report has been approved by the MHFA board & I'm looking forward to its public release
