24.01.2022 KSGB Backyard Games: #13 'Peg Tiggy' .. What you need: - Pegs... - Loose fitting clothing is best So many different versions you can play! 1. All kids have 5 pegs, winner is the first kid to peg all their pegs onto the other kids' clothing. 2. All kids have 5 pegs already pegged to their clothing. Kids run around trying to steal pegs from others. Once all pegs have been taken from clothing, winner is the kid with the most pegs. 3. All kids have 5 pegs in hand plus 5 pegs on their clothing. Kids run around trying to get rid of the pegs in their hands, plus trying to keep as many of the pegs attached on their clothing as possible. Game ends when timer runs out. Modifications for kids of varying ages / skill level: - Older kids cannot steal pegs from younger. - Older kids cannot peg their pegs to younger children. - Older kids have to use double the amount of pegs. - Younger kids get double points for every peg pegged, or peg stolen. Have fun
23.01.2022 KSGB Backyard Games: #4 'Rock Paper Scissors' What you need:... - 2 teams/players - Marker in middle of playing area where the two teams meet - Pile of 'treasure' made up of anything, placed beside middle marker - 2 starting points for each team to run from to middle marker Players/teams must choose/decide what object they will be (Rock, Paper or Scissors). Once both teams are ready, they run into middle marker and meet face to face. They play Rock, Paper, Scissors. Whoever wins gets to take 1 piece of treasure back to their starting point. They play again and again until all treasures are gone. Player/team with most treasures wins. If it is a draw come up with specific rule: - 1st player back to their starting spot gets the treasure - Or, simply go back to starting point, think of new rock paper scissor and play again. Have fun

If the ball hits the wall / goes past the other teams point, bomb 'explodes' so kicking/throwing get a point. The receiving team must try and stop the ball from hitting their wall / going past their marker to stop the ball from 'exploding'. Receiving team then kick/throw the ball back across to other team to try and hit the other teams wall / get it past the other teams point to get a point themselves. Game can be played with any number of players. Game can be modified based on differing age and skill levels by the size of each teams area, where they have to throw/kick from, how they are allowed to throw/kick, what type of ball they are allowed to use etc. Have fun

17.01.2022 KSGB Backyard Games: #10 'Smash Ball' What you need:... - 1 x Bat (cricket, tennis, baseball, hockey even) - 1 x Ball - 1 x Tee (something to place the ball on) 1 player is the batter, all other players are the fielders. Ball is placed on the Tee at a certain spot. Batter hits the ball off of the Tee to try and make it hot the fence or go past a set boundary/point. Fielders try to stop the ball from hitting the fence / going past the set boundary/point. If the ball hits the fence, batter gets a point. Or, if playing with cricket bat, batter gets 4 runs if the ball goes along the ground and hits fence. 6 runs if ball hits the fence on the full. Each batter gets, for example, 5 hits (in a row). They total up their score. Once each player has had 5 hits, player woth the highest score wins. Or, set a run/point target. Each player bats until they reach the point/run target, ie 30 runs, and keeps count of how many hits it takes them to reach that target. Player who reaches the target in the least amount of hits is the winner. Modifications for varying skill levels and ages: - Move the Tee further back for older/more skilled kids. - Move the Tee closer for younger/less skilled kids. - Older/more skilled kids must use non-preferred hand for batting and/or fielding. - Size of the ball/bat also another option. Bigger bat/ball for younger kids, smaller bat/ball for older kids. Have fun
16.01.2022 Heres Coach Jo with a snapshot of our Skill Video on how to perform a Shoulder Pass in Netball (Part 2 of our Backyard Session) .. All of our Backyard Sessions come with one or two Skill Components. .. This is where we teach and coach the kids how to successfully complete a particular skill specific to that sport ... .. The Skill is broken down step-by-step using terminology & visual demonstration that kids can replicate, remember, practice & perfect .. This is also a great video for parents to watch as they can then continue to coach and help their kids execute the skill correctly .. #practicemakesperfect #kellysportsgreaterballarat #backyardsessions #netball #shoulderpass #isolation #fun #sport #kids See more
15.01.2022 KSGB Backyard Games: #11 'Fill the Bucket' Amazing game for the very young kids! ... What you need: - 1 x bucket - Lots of balls/socks/teddies/scrunched up newspaper balls, whatever you can find as long as they are soft! 1 person is in charge of emptying the bucket (usually parent or older child). Everyone else has to find all the balls/toys and bring them back to the bucket as quickly as possible. NOTE: Please warn the kids to be very careful when turning around after they have put the ball back in the bucket as this is where head clashes can occur with other kids coming to the bucket if not careful! Give a countdown from 10 seconds to let the little kids know that the game is about to end and to work faster/harder. (Usually the thrower will stop throwing at this point because we always want the little kids to win) Can also play competitively with older kids: once timer runs out, if there are more balls in the bucket than outside then fielding team win. If there are more balls outside the bucket than inside then the thrower wins. Very simple game, lots of fun. Have fun
14.01.2022 KSGB Backyard Games: #9 'Tail Tiggy' What you need:... - 1 x 'tail' for every player (tea towel or long socks work perfect) - 'Home Base' - designated 'safe spot' Each player has a tail that they put into their pocket/waist band of their pants/shorts/skirt etc. Kids then run around trying to steal tails from the other kids. If you succesfully steal a tail, you get a point. Once you have stolen a tail, you need to give that tail back to the person you stole it from. Once a kid has had their tail stolen, they go over to, and stand inside 'Home Base' to put their tail back in. This stops other kids from stealing their tail when they are putting it back in. (It will also stop a lot of arguments). Once a kid has put their tail back in, they leave ' Home Base' and rejoin the game. Modifications: - Older/more skilled kids must have a longer tail - Younger/less skilled kids have a shorter tail When does the game end? - When the timer runs out, kid with most points is the winner. - When a kid gets to the agreed points mark, Ie first to 10 points. - When the kids get bored (not always need to have a winner) Have fun

12.01.2022 CHECK OUT OUR ONLINE BACKYARD SESSIONS NOW Here's a snapshot of Coach Dom's Warm-up Games section of our Cricket #3 (Part 1 of our Backyard Session) .. All of our Backyard Sessions start with a Warm-up Games component that will keep the kids engaged for a minimum or 30 minutes (but most likely longer!) ... .. The Warm-up Games are always the games that kids love to play the most, whilst focusing on the specific skills we are trying to practice for that sport. .. The games are done alongside the Kelly Sports Coach on screen and can be done by one child on their own or multiple kids at the same time .. We also give kids ideas on how to play certain games at home by modifying them through a number of different ways so that they no longer need a Kelly Sports Coach to show them how .. As you can see, very minimal sporting equipment is actually needed to do one of our sessions. The majority of items we use are common household goods found in every home! .. 11.01.2022 Firsty, we hope you are all safe & staying positive during these extremely tough times. .. We would like to apologise because unfortunately, due to the new restrictions that come into place as of this Thursday 6th August, we will obviously be unable to continue our face-to-face Kinder & Primary School programs until further notice. .. Our last official day of kinder & school sessions will be today due to a Pupil Free Day tomorrow & remote learning as of Wednesday.... .. We are working really hard to try & provide worthwhile, beneficial alternatives for your children & all children in the Greater Ballarat area to ensure they can continue to be involved in structured physical sport & activity, which arguably is more important than ever during these difficult, unprecedented times. .. Our plan at this stage is the following: All children currently enrolled in a Kelly Sports lunch or after-school program will receive a Kelly Sports Video Session at the start of every week for the duration of lockdown V2. This video is designed to be completed at home with minimal sporting equipment. More info to follow. All children currently enrolled in a Kelly Sports lunch or after-school program will be able to access our live Zoom sessions each week, at no cost. These live Zoom sessions will be scheduled for various days and times each week. More info to follow. All children currently enrolled in a Kelly Sports lunch or after-school program will be able to participate in at least 1 outdoor face-to-face session with a Kelly Sports Coach. Regional Victoria are allowed to conduct outdoor physical activity sessions with a maximum of 2 participants and 1 coach. We do have a large number of children currently enrolled in our school programs for Term 3 but we will do our absolute best to ensure everyone receives at least 1 outdoor session. Venues, days and times yet to be confirmed, more info to follow. .. All of the above is still to be confirmed & organised so as soon we have further information we will be sure to let you all know immediately. .. If you have any queries, or would like to organise alternative arrangements, please feel free to contact us. .. Please stay safe everyone

10.01.2022 KSGB Backyard Games: #5 'HOWZAT!' What you need:... - 1 x cricket stumps &/or make-do cricket stumps - 1 ball per team/cricket stump - 1 marker per team/cricket stump to throw from Each player/team stands behind their marker and throws their ball to try and hit their stumps. If they hit a stump, they must yell "howzat!" and then go and take that cricket stump out and place on ground. They then run back to the marker to throw again, or hand the ball to the next player in their team to have a turn. If they miss, no worries, they run to get their ball and run back to marker. First player/team to hit all 3 and say 'howzat' after each one, wins. If the ball hits more than 1 stump at the same time, doesn't matter, still only take out / put down 1. Modify distance to throw / throwing technique / type of ball used etc for kids of varying ages and skill levels. Have fun
09.01.2022 KSGB Backyard Games: #8 'Giants Treasure' What you need:... - 1 x Treasure (can be anything!) Kids start from an area away from the Giant and the Treasure. Kids must sneak up slowly towards the treasure when the Giant is not looking. When the Giant turns around the kods must freeze! No moving at all! If the Giant sees them moving they call their name and that player must go back to the start and start again, whilst all other players remain where they are. Once the Giant turns back around again, the kids can continue to sneak towards the treasure. First person to get their hands on the treasure wins. The Giant can even chase them back to the start. (This game always works best when the parent is the Giant, but kids can be the Giant too). Can modify based on differing skill level & ages by distance each child must start from. Or older kids must dribble a soccer ball / basketball whilst moving. Or older kids must walk backwards when sneaking towards treasure. Endless modifications! Have fun
09.01.2022 KSGB Backyard Games: #3 'Beat the Ball' What you need: ... - 2 players/teams - 2 markers/points to run between - 1 ball (any ball you want!) Runner must run and touch 2 markers a set number of times, eg. 10 times. Once runner starts running, the person with the ball starts doing their challenge. Ie how many kicks & catches, how many throw-clap-catches, how many chest passes, how many hand-balls etc can they do before Runner finishes their runs. Swap over. If player 1 gets 10 chest passes, and player 2 gets 12 chest passes in their time, player 2 wins. Game can be modified depending on skill level & age level of each participant either by number of runs they have to do and/or type of ball challenge/skill they have to do. Have fun
09.01.2022 KSGB Backyard Games: #7 'Warriors & Dragons' (Best for older kids and with bigger numbers)... What you need: - 2 x teams - 1 x ball - Playing area (Marker out of possible) Warriors must work together to tag all of the Dragons using a ball. If a Dragon is tagged by the ball, he/she becomes a warrior and helps catch all the other Dragons. Warriors can only 'tag' the Dragons with the ball in their hand (no throwing the ball at Dragons). Warriors are also not allowed to move when they are holding the ball, they are 'stuck in the mud'. Warriors must work together to pass & move the ball between one another to tag the Dragons. Great for aspiring Netball & Basketball players! Dragons need to work on their spatial awareness to avoid the ball for as long as possible. Warriors need to problem solve, move into positions where they can receive the ball to either tag a Dragon or be able to move it on quickly to a team mate who can tag a Dragon. Game can be timed to see how quickly it takes the Warriors to catch all Dragons. Or can just be played for fun to see who the last Dragon standing is. Have fun

We've provided a number of our Kindergartens with our equipment packs (cleaned & sanitised of course ) so that they're now able to do our pre-recorded Kinder Video Sessions each week. Not the same as having Coach Paul or Coach Dom there in person, but kids following us on the TV is the next best thing .. Lastly, all our kids who were enrolled in a lunch-time or after-school term 3 program will not only be provided with one of our pre-recorded Backyard Video Sessions each week, but will also have unlimited access to our daily Live Zoom Sessions, 4pm to 4.40pm every weekday for the next 6 weeks .. 01.01.2022 KSGB Backyard Games: #2 'Noughts & Crosses' You need: - 2 teams - 4 poles/sticks laid out to make your Noughts & Crosses playing area (9 squares)... - 3 x same pieces of equipment (ie 3 x red rolled up paper balls) - 3 x same pieces of equipment (ie 3 x green rolled up paper balls) - Starting spot/marker Both teams start at the same time from same spot. On 'GO' 1st person from each team runs to Noughts & Crosses area and puts their piece of equipment down in one of the squares. They then run back and tag the next person in their team who does the same thing, or just runs back and grabs their next peice of equipment and goes again (depending on how many players on each team). First team to make 3 in a row wins. Once team uses up all their 3 pieces of equipment and hasn't created 3 in a row, they run back to the start, touch the marker, then run back to the squares and move one of their teams equipment to a new empty square. Both teams keep doing this till 1 team makes 3 in a row. Have fun
