15.01.2022 Introducing our 7 flying fox babies. Our flying fox population is currently facing starvation due to the drought and bushfires. This leaves mothers unable to produce milk to feed their pups. Our nurse Lauren is a vaccinated wildlife volunteer who is caring for them and our vet Julie has been sewing bat wraps for them on her days off (as well as a lovely neighbor who recently donated some). ... Did you know flying foxes are like giant bees of Australia? They are the pollinators of the eucalyptus trees that Koalas rely on for food. They also disperse seeds over huge distances every night, regenerating native forests and bushland. A Wildlife Nurse

07.01.2022 Are your pets on tick prevention? Lucy came to see Dr Jing when her owner noticed she wasn't well after a camping trip. We found she had a paralysis tick and needed treatment with antiserum. She has now fully recovered and is back home. Pets can pick up paralysis ticks in the bush, near the beach and sometimes in their own backyards when the ticks are carried in by birds and lizards. Tick paralysis can be deadly if not treated, even after the tick is removed. Talk to us about the prevention options available

25.09.2021 LEPTOSPIROSIS Sydney is currently experiencing an outbreak of Leptospirosis; a disease transmitted by rat urine that can kill pets in 48 hours. So far there have been 7 confirmed cases in dogs, killing at least 5. Leptospirosis is a highly contagious zoonotic disease, meaning it can spread to people. Symptoms to watch out for include: - Lethargy... - Vomiting - Diarrhea - Lack of appetite - Drinking and urinating more than usual - Yellow skin/gums/whites of eyes Some steps you can take to protect your dog are: - Stay Away from rat infested areas such as rubbish collection areas and back alleys behind shops with food waste. - Don't allow them to drink from water puddles or eat unknown objects. - Avoid swimming in ponds/lakes. Although we have not yet seen any cases in the Kellyville Ridge area, as a precaution, we are now advising that all dogs are vaccinated with a C7 vaccination to include leptospirosis cover. Please contact us on 02 9629 2030 to make an appointment to have your dog vaccinated or if you suspect your pet may be at risk.
