24.01.2022 Another successful Try a Trade programme completed! Last week 15 Year 10’s undertook a building project at the school Farm. Assisting was Year 11 Seb Cartwright who is one of this year’s recipients of the SkillHire scholarship gained from his efforts in last Year’s Year 10 Try a Trade programme. Under the guidance of trainer David Cunningham from Skills Hire the students first completed their WA white card and then in three days built a new limestone walled and paved area at... the school Farm. Putting teamwork, mathematics and some hard work together has produced a lasting structure for use at the school. 15.01.2022 Kelmscott Senior High School Agriculture Faculty held its first Paraders Day on Saturday 22 August. The event was instituted to assist students in preparation for the Kelmscott Show and in place of the activities normally held at the Royal Show. Year 10, 11 & 12 students competed in cattle and sheep events including handling, junior judging and drafting. The day was hugely successful with students performing strongly in all skill areas and showing admirable maturity in prepar...ation and performance. It was particularly pleasing to have Specialist Agriculture alumni Lisa McLerie return to the school to judge the cattle competitions. Lisa is now working for Harvey Beef. A terrific turn out of parents, Kelmscott SHS staff, industry professionals and Dr Tony Buti MLA (Kelmscott SHS Alumni) gave the day the right atmosphere. My thanks to all Agriculture staff for the enormous amount of work that goes into such an endeavour. We make it look easy because so many people pitch in. Also, thanks to Karen V for manning the gate.

04.01.2022 On the morning of Tuesday September 15th , the Year 9 Drama students performed 6 self-devised puppet plays for a group of very young children from Roberta Jull Family Day Care service. The students have been learning about creating drama for target audiences and so had to craft short plays specifically designed to entertain the very young. They came up with stories that gave strong morals for youngsters including we are all as important as each other, and stealing is bad;... as well as some traditional fairy-tales. The young children were totally engaged for an hour, which is no mean feat, and it was delightful to see them dancing, repeating spells, and calling out answers in response to the plays. The childrens carers were also very impressed, not only with the performances but with the professional attitudes of Kelmscott students and how well they interacted with the children both during and after the performances.
