16.01.2022 KelpX TECC students practicing wound packing on some perfused pork legs. Wound packing is a essential skill in stopping junctional haemorrhages (neck, armpits and groin). Not all bleeds can be controlled with tourniquets and pressure dressings. Haemorrhage is the second most leading cause of death in civilian trauma patients (26-40%).... A US military study "between 2001-2011 noted that 17.5% of potentially preventable deaths resulted from junctional haemorhages". Wow! Junctional wound packing saves lives! 15.01.2022 Andrew Cuttler Managing Director, Senior Trainer BNurs RN1 GCertTacMed Meet our director, Andy (a.k.a. the Moustached Medic).... While managing a career as an emergency nurse, Andy remains a highly active member of an infantry company in the Australian Army Reserve, where he is a qualified combat first aider. His military experience has informed his knowledge of the tactical environment and how medical practices must function within it, and the time working closely with mates has instilled in him a passion for keeping the good guys safe. Completing a graduate certificate in Tactical Medicine has also positioned him uniquely as a leader in the Australian tactical medicine industry, and as result he has cultivated a strong set of unique critical care skills applicable in both austere and tactical environments. Armed with this wealth of knowledge, he has worked abroad in both Nepal and Mexico, gaining further exposure to trauma medicine, in particular the treatment of stab and gunshot wounds. When Andy isn’t busy working, he enjoys time spent at home with his wife in country Victoria. He enjoys keeping active and taking his dog on adventures. Brucea kelpie dog and the company mascotseems to have more patience for Andy’s chatter about tactical medicine than his wife... She claims never to have gone a dinner table conversation without it being mentioned! #kelpx #tecc #tccc
