25.01.2022 In this slow motion video you can see 2 arc phases in the short arc process - the short circuit phase and open arc phase. During the short circuit phase, filler metal transfers from the filler wire to the weld pool. During the arc phase, the filler wire heats and droplets begin to form.

17.01.2022 Fabricator, Richard Mather, has been busy working on a project with Stephen Dangerfield Milling Services. The Gunnedah-based project involves building a structural frame to hold 4 silos above a bulk out loading maize facility. To get the work done Richard has been using his Kemppi FastMig KMS 500 with water cooler. The wire feeder is a Kemppi FastMig MSF 55 with wise root along with a 20m umbilical. There is about 150 t of steel in the project, the structural frame is about 9... m off the ground. The 4 silos are each 12 m in length and 3.5 m in diameter that will sit upon the structure. When the project nears completion it will be 25 m tall and completely enclosed. The plate in the silos is 8mm 350 grade, the joins are 30 mechanical bevelled with a 1.5 mm root and land gap. They used ceramic backing and standard LW1-1.2 mm wire. The longitudinal welds are two passes using a magnetic tractor. The circumferential welds were done on top of a mobile frame with a torch in a mount and adjusted like a rudder system. The weld was two passes, one root run hot and one capping. Each weld pass took about 45 minutes non-stop. "The Kemppi machines never missed a heartbeat," said Richard.
