24.01.2022 The Bureau of Meteorology has advised that the northern half of the state may be impacted by heavy rainfall during Friday night through to Saturday evening, wit...h the possibility of flooding in some areas. People in affected areas should prepare their property and develop their Home Emergency Plan in preparation. Road users should also be vigilant and always drive to the conditions. Be aware of the increased hazards caused by heavy rainfall, including water and debris on and around roads. We advise people to do the following to prepare: Check bom.gov.au for the latest weather forecast and warnings. Check that family and neighbours, especially those who are vulnerable, are aware of warnings and have a plan in place. Be prepared for flash-flooding. Clear drains and gutters of debris so they flow freely. Have a plan for managing pets and livestock. Be prepared for power outages. SES has volunteer crews ready to assist the community and plans are in place to respond to calls during this period. In the event of heavy rainfall and flooding: Supervise children closely. Manage pets and livestock. Never enter or drive through floodwaters, and when driving look out for debris on roads including fallen trees and power lines. Report power outages to TasNetworks on 132 004. Listen to the ABC radio or check www.ses.tas.gov.au for further advice. Call SES on 132 500 for flood and storm-related emergency assistance. Dial Triple Zero (000) in a life-threatening emergency.

22.01.2022 Tasmania’s emergency services have banded together as part of a new campaign calling on Tasmanians to take responsibility for keeping themselves and others safe... on our roads. The social media campaign includes five short videos featuring first responders from Tasmania Police, Tasmania Fire Service, Tasmania SES and Ambulance Tasmania; reminding motorists: One moment of distraction is all it takes to cause a crash. Pay attention and leave your phone alone. Speed limits exist for a reason. Obey the limit and help us keep everyone safe on our roads. Seatbelts save lives. Buckle up every time you get behind the wheel and make sure children are wearing the right restraints. Never drive after drinking or taking drugs. You’ll be putting more than just your life on the line. Driving tired is dangerous. Pull over and have a break. Arriving late is better than not arriving at all. For further details see: https://www.police.tas.gov.au/emergency-services-road.../

People planning on cam...ping or caravanning in low lying areas which are close to rivers, creeks and streams in the northern half of the state need to take preventative action today. This includes camping areas along the Lower Mersey, Forth and Leven Rivers, and areas such as Deloraine, Derby, Longford, Ross, including national parks. They need to be aware with this current weather forecast that river and stream levels can rise very quickly. Emergency services recommend moving to higher ground this afternoon.

02.01.2022 Weather permitting, the Parks and Wildlife Service will be conducting a fuel reduction burn on Sunday 15th November at Thieving Hill, Pelham, as part of the sta...te-wide Fuel Reduction Program which is aimed at reducing the bushfire risk to help protect lives and communities. The total area of this burn will be approximately 110 hectares, and is likely to take 1-2 days to complete. Smoke may persist some days afterward depending on wind conditions. During burning operations public access to this area will be restricted. The public is asked to remain well out of the burn site while the burn is taking place and for the following days until safety checks have been made along tracks and trails. Please comply with directions from staff or any signs if you are in the area. While the fire intensity will be low, it will generate flames, smoke and ash. People with medical conditions are advised to have a personal plan for avoiding smoke from the burn.
