25.01.2022 Department of Education OFFICE OF THE SECRETARY GPO Box 169, HOBART TAS 7001 Australia [email protected] Ph (03) 6165 5757 18 November 2020... Dear Families, As 2020 draws to a close I want to say a big thank you all for your support and understanding as we have all worked together, through what can only be described as a year like no other! It was amazing to see the partnership between parents, carers and teachers this year. Thanks for all the creative, consistent and inspiring ways you helped us to help learners to keep learning, even when they couldn’t leave home. Supporting our learners and keeping them safe will always be our number one priority as an education department. COVID-19 has meant a lot of what we do in the school year has had to change. It’s been great to feel that we are all in it together as a community, even when these changes have been hard. Thanks for all your help to make it work. Whilst Tasmania continues to be in a great position, as we have seen this week in South Australia the situation can change very quickly. This highlights just how important it is to continue to follow Public Health advice. End of year celebrations and activities update: As the end of the year approaches, many of the celebrations and activities that usually occur at this time will also need to be done differently. With borders reopening and more of us travelling around the country, keeping up our COVID-safe behaviours is as important as ever. We are required to ensure that all our events are COVID-safe, in line with Public Health advice. This will look different from school to school based on the size of the school and the facilities they have available. Again, some of these changes are hard ones, but we must stay focussed on keeping each other safe. I know our staff are working incredibly hard to deliver these events to as many as they are able. Many schools are setting up live streaming and recording events to make sure that as many of the community as possible are able to take part. Whatever your school has planned, please support them in their endeavour to hold these special celebrations safely. Reporting update: Like some of our events, reporting will also be slightly different this Term. Due to the impact of COVID-19 and the complexities in reporting student attendance, attendance data on end of year reports will be for Term 4 only. Thank you again for your support and cooperation. All of what our schools, learners and families have and are continuing to achieve together has been truly extraordinary. You can rely on us to remain flexible and responsive to the ever evolving situation, and to always put learners first guided by Public Health advice. I wish you and your families a wonderful end of year and holiday season. Thanks for your partnership this year. Yours sincerely Tim Bullard SECRETARY

13.01.2022 CHILDREN'S UNIVERSITY Message to all parents/carers of Children’s University participants please - I need to comment on one of my recent emails.. THIS IS A VERY IMPORTANT PIECE OF INFORMATION CU has decided to make next Monday 14 September 2020, the actual date for Passport hours cut-off to prepare for the Children’s University Graduation which will be arranged to occur at some time in November or December 2020 at school rather than the large public ceremony at Universi...ty or Grand chancellor as per past years. (Due to impact of covid) Please check your child’s Passport and see if there’s a few ways to add/insert a few more hours before next Monday. I know it’s been a difficult time in recent months and covid has caused sporting/non-sporting events/training to be cancelled.. BUT.. if you’re stuck for ideas, go back through the editions of Wonder Weekly and check out the various activities there.. I’m sure you could find some half hour or 1 hour slots from there. Please bring Passports to school next Monday for me to check off the hours.. Thank you for your patience.. Cheers for now.. John ‘Mr Mac’ McCormack Chaplain/CU School Co-ordinator See more
