20.01.2022 There will be no training between 28 September and 5 October inclusive. Construction at the hall is preventing its use.

20.01.2022 I am very excited to announce that the Mt Gravatt High School has approved our re-entry to the hall and training in Iaido will recommence from tomorrow evening. Kendo will recommence on Thursday this week. Initially there will be no jigeiko or partner practice until such time as we have secured full face shields from Japan. These are being sought currently by the QKR. Surgical masks will be provided for all members. I will send a complete email out to club members this evening. This is a very exciting development and I look forward to seeing all Ken Shin Kai members back in the dojo!

19.01.2022 The next beginers course will start on Saturday May 1 2021 at our Mt Gravatt dojo. This course is a 10 week program run on Saturday mornings and Monday evenings. If you are interested in attending, please contact Ken Shin Kai either here or by email to register your interest. Cost will be $60 for the course with shinai and course materials provided.

14.01.2022 NOTICE RE Training tonight, Monday 25th January. Training will be available tonight however, a large number of chairs will need to be moved before we can start. These do not need to be returned to their positions at the end of training. Please come at 7pm if you are able to assist with this exercise.

10.01.2022 As most of you will be aware, the QLD gov has advised that lockdown will cease as of this evening at 6pm. There will be no change to the previous decision to cancel kendo tonight. In line with the updated advice from QLD Gov, we will implement the use of masks again until Jan 22. Specifically, masks will be worn upon entering the dojo and leaving. During training masks will be worn while not in men.... When using men, we will require only shield as we have been doing for some time now. Masks must be worn at all other times whilst in the dojo and when moving between the carpark and the hall. I look forward to seeing you all back at training starting with Iaido on Wednesday evening.

08.01.2022 Training has been cancelled for Sat 9 and Monday 11th January due to the new covid lockdown restrictions in Brisbane. Further changes will be notified as more advice from the QLD Gov becomes available. Please stay safe during these difficult and crazy times.

08.01.2022 Last training for 2020 at Ken Shin Kai will be on Monday, Dec 21. We will start back up on Jan 4th, 2021. Wishing all members and friends a happy and safe festive season and lets look forward to a much better 2021!

06.01.2022 Please note: there will be no training from Monday 28 September until Monday 5 October due to construction at the hall.

05.01.2022 Concerning kendo training ... I hope that you are all coping as well as you can with this crisis. In the scheme of things, missing kendo training seems like a small price to pay to ensure we stay safe and get through this healthy and with a view to the future. Please continue to practise as best you can. Do suburi at home if you are able to. Try to maintain your general fitness. I have been walking daily and trying to increase the number of sit ups and push ups I do to keep a...s healthy as possible. I am also trying hard not to eat too much which is proving my biggest challenge. Let’s also keep talking to each other and checking in to make sure we are all coping. It is easy for people to feel depressed when they are isolated so it is important that we maintain a conversation with each other on social media and phone and text. I have spoken with the Mt Gravatt High School about suspending fees while we are not able to utilise the hall. They have agreed to this request and are very supportive of us generally following the requirements of social distancing. So, I believe it is appropriate for us to also suspend monthly fees until we start up again. We are all struggling to maintain jobs and to meet our ongoing financial commitments and, if this helps to lighten that burden, then I feel it is the least we can do. Whenever we are able to get back into training, let’s look forward to that day and continue to keep kendo and iaido in our hearts and minds. I am always available to talk about any issues you may have so please feel free to contact me about anything at all if you feel the need to talk to someone. Take care and see you on the other side.

05.01.2022 Training is back on and still following the QLD Gov COVID 19 guidelines which is to wear masks and maintain social distance. Only face shield is required while wearing bogu. A new beginner course will be starting soon so stay tuned for that!

05.01.2022 No training today as the hall was unexpectedly filled with chairs. I will confirm training for Monday and moving forward and post details here
