25.01.2022 Shade Sail News ; I have received a phone call from the Mayor Mark Nolan this afternoon, who advised the shade was one of his election promises and he has instructed those who are running the quotation process to get local quotes asap, as he wants the project done as soon as possible. A local builder, yes from Mission Beach and the local shade sail maker, also from Mission Beach has been asked to meet on site to progress the project. Thanks for our discussion this morning T...rudy and your assistance in getting things moving, hopefully things get done sooner rather than later, Nov. to April has been wasted. Local policy of using tradesman from our area may finally happen. Rocka See more

25.01.2022 Good reminder from Ron Darlington.

20.01.2022 Getting close to having a COVID vaccine. I worked for many years for a company now called AstraZeneca (Zeneca was known then as ICI Pharma). They are working on one of the most promising vaccines developed by Oxford University and the news is VERY encouraging. Hope they succeed. Ken.

19.01.2022 We once again have to stand up to others who bag out this facility. This was my reply. Rocka

19.01.2022 Our Division 3 councilor Trudy Tschui. Division 3. 2020 has confirmed " works for Qld " funding has been received by CCRC and our shade for the Mission Beach pool is a step closer. And it will not be from general revenue. Thanks to those who supported the funding application!!!! Rocka

18.01.2022 An appreciation post to John Cav. and his staff who ran the facility previously. Also to Carl who ran the cafe. Thanks for your efforts, and best wishes for your road ahead. Rocka.

17.01.2022 Here are the new opening hours. Hope our new operator goes well - we are optimistic and know how well John Cav ran the facility so hope this will also be excellent.

17.01.2022 Not a lot of news yet but it will soon break and let's stay positive for Cr Trudy is working hard on the three key issues. I believe that Trudy and Mark Nolan will honour their promises for shade. We are focused on the issues and optimistic that things will soon start happening. Ken Gray.

16.01.2022 Please support and enjoy our local pool. Movie night too!! Rocka

15.01.2022 After some communication with Trudy, Mark Nolan and Ceo James Gott, we are pleased that MBARC have today had confirmation that the shade sails will be up by end of June 21. This will increase revenue with more families attending, and reduce running costs with less chemical used, so a win all round. The shade sails will be funded by works for qld, as council received a grant last year to do so. We thank CCRC for the update. Regards... Rocka See more

15.01.2022 Good news nears on pool opening! Trudy says CCRC will announce the tender winner tomorrow and if they stay on plan that means it will open either 28 or 29 July ie next week. Ken.

14.01.2022 Just in case someone thinks I was harsh on CCRC about the shade sails, here is a post confirming CCRC had govt. funds for the shade back in August 2020. I received several calls today so thanks for community support. 9 months is long enough surely before we publicly ask " what's the go" Post read as follows; Our Division 3 councilor Trudy Tschui. Division 3. 2020 has confirmed " works for Qld " funding has been received by CCRC and our shade for the Mission Beach pool is a s...tep closer. And it will not be from general revenue. Thanks to those who supported the funding application!!!! Rocka See more

10.01.2022 Grimsey’s Aquatics P/L awarded management contract Pool to re-open on Monday 27 July at 6.30am New management confirms pool will be open ‘year-round’ with a range of new swimming programs: Ken Gray page administrator.

09.01.2022 Hi, this is Rocka who has been more than involved since day 1 in 2001. I shared this post from Trudy in November 2020. The CCRC put in funding submission and won funding for this way back.... It is now April 2021, we ask and ask `` where is our sails `` still. This is me ( not Ken ) asking CCRC.............@Trudy Tschui, @ Mark Nolan or anybody else to please tell us what is the holdup? Will someone from CCRC answer this question, because you won`t return a phone call, or put up a post, press release, note, carrier pigeon etc. on what is the holdup. It is no longer a joke and ridiculous, and community should not be exposed to the sun, and be expected to support the facility. Shade = increased income from more people coming, reduced expenditure from less chemicals. Equality of shade which is in our other towns pools is all we ask. Trudy, Mark what`s the bloody go!!!! Rocka.......Paul Roxby 0407678058

05.01.2022 Council Meeting today: The good news is Council expects the shade for the Billabong and Splash Pad to cost around $120,000 and they will pay for this hopefully from dollars won from the Works for QLD fund and erect the sails early next year. What they are building though is anyone's guess. No sail designs have been disclosed or discussed with the community - nil consultation. Cr Barnes urged council officers to open the MBAC soon after the tenders close on July 08 but officer...s stonewalled and only spoke of barriers and difficulties. Thanks Cr Barnes. Note that Cairns has all of its aquatic centres open now apart from Babinda which always closes for winter. You would think we could get one regional aquatic centre opened but there is no sense of urgency whatsoever. Council officers provided a 'report' on the MBAC as requested in May but this was unadulterated garbage padded out with irrelevant information, providing no data, having a timeline riddled with errors and making invalid guesses on the region's aquatic facilities usage. It answered none of the questions asked eg will MBAC be kept open in winters? and focused only on the costs to council, ignoring the benefits to the whole region when it is open. Crs meekly accepted that tosh which does not auger well for the future effectiveness of CCRC. Very disappointing that our new Crs are not making the officers accountable but hopefully we will get reasonable sails erected and they will one day look at the regional benefits of the MBAC and keep it open in winters for the good of the region's economy and health. Ken Gray. See more

04.01.2022 Meet your new aquatic centre operator. I will get Ridge to provide some background so we can all get to know him quickly. Ken.

03.01.2022 See how Cairns Council views its aquatic centres. See how positive that is beside CCRC. Why are our Councillors not asking the difficult questions when they are fed no data and misinformation by Officers? What do we need to do differently to succeed like Cairns? Ken Gray.

03.01.2022 More on the opening ....
