23.01.2022 Thanks for a great working bee on Sunday! We had a great morning at Kenmore South as many parents and their eager children worked really hard to weed; spread many wheelbarrows of mulch; weed again; plant in the new sustainable garden and on the slope in the upper prep playground; pick up rubbish; and weed some more! We concentrated at the Strathspey Street entrance and the new sustainable garden area. We did also manage to weed and tidy the garden near the tiger turf which lo...oks great. We have been very fortunate to receive 80 plants from Brian Hacker at the Moggill Creek Catchment Group that were all planted - thank you so much! Our local Bunnings at Indooroopilly donated 8 large Lemon Myrtle and Cinnamon Myrtle trees that will eventually give shade and smell sweet- thank you so much! These plants will also provide food for our native bees. Thank you to our P&C who worked with the school to organise a very productive morning and for providing morning tea for the workers and ice blocks for the children! A great result for the school! Thank you everyone! See more

23.01.2022 Working Bee Thanks! A big Thank you to the parents, grandparents and children who came along and helped tidy up our school at the Working Bee on Sunday. We made a start on repainting the mural - check it out when you're next on the tiger turf. The gardens near the Prep classes and outside the OSHC were weeded to highlight the native plants that are thriving. And the area near our 50th Anniversary tree was whipper snipped, weeded and a hedge planted to highlight the space. Thank you to the P&C for organising.

19.01.2022 Year 5 Camp Day 2 at Tallebudgera! What a great day we had today on our second day of camp! And what an amazing group of students this Year 5 group are -polite, engaging, enthusiastic and helpful. Some great leadership qualities being shown. We were up bright and early this morning for breakfast and then a room inspection! The rooms were tidy and there were some great ideas on how to keep their gear organised - well done everyone! And then onto our exciting activities. The s...tudents went off to their groups again -body boarding down on the beach; canoeing at Tallebudgera Creek; archery; beach games; and Team Rescue where the students have to work together to complete the obstacle course. Check out the photos. The weather was a bit windy today so canoeing was hard work but we still managed to have a go and work as a team. All the body boarders braved the cool water in their wet suits, mastering the art of catching the waves as they followed their instructors advice. The beach games were fun and energetic - filling a bucket from the surf blindfolded and guided by your team mates; team games of catching the ball while running on the sand; and sitting on the edge of the water, arms linked, as the waves approached and seeing how long we could stay together! So much fun and laughter. We were lucky to see whales breaching - a very special sight. The students developed skills in accuracy and strength as they took to archery and rock wall climbing. Great listening skills as they followed their instructors and then hit the target and reached great heights! After a delicious dinner we went into two groups, one relaxing in front of the outdoor movie theatre and the other group participating in some very energetic running and ball games. After an action packed day of adventure, acquiring new skills and most definitely fun, it is time to recharge and be ready for our final activities tomorrow. See more

19.01.2022 Look what happened over the holidays! The dry, dusty amphitheatre area has been transformed into a green, landscaped garden! The hill has been terraced with sandstone rocks to match our Nature Playground and planting of natives will happen in the next few weeks. The terraced area has been mulched and a walking space made down to the Activities Center and Prep classrooms. The old broken footpath has been removed and a new, wider path has been laid! Three beautiful pieces of sa...ndstone have replaced the green metal bench seat outside Prep B. And can you see the new addition of the native bee hive? The final part was laying the lush turf. Thank you to all who have helped create this sustainable learning area by fundraising, planning, organising, laying turf or mulching. We are not finished yet so the area is cordoned off to any access at the moment to give the turf time to grow. Have a look at the photos that give you an idea of the process. The students can check this area out when they return to school on Tuesday. Enjoy your long weekend! See more

15.01.2022 Year 5 students are on camp at the Gold Coast Recreation Centre, Tallebudgera! We were an excited group who arrived here this morning, Wednesday, to glorious sunshine and the sound of waves crashing on the beach behind the centre. It has been an action packed day from setting up our cabins; enjoying lunch; and then getting organised for the afternoon activities. We are split up into groups so there are many activities happening at the same time. Canoeing was great fun. After... putting on our life jacket, we carried our paddle and walked to the Tallebudgera River where our canoes were waiting for us. We managed to paddled across to an island and eat our afternoon tea near the mangroves. It was hard word and a lot of fun as we laughed, splashed and built sandcastles. Other students were doing Archery or body boarding at the beach or Team Rescue actions. We were all tired at the end of our session and excited by the fun of trying new activities. We returned to our cabin to rest! It was then chilling out time with our cabin friends in our rooms, talking about the day. We played some games with the teachers; and then it was time for a delicious dinner. The girls then got organised to enjoy a movie on an open air, inflatable screen, laying out on the grass under the stars and clouds! Meanwhile, the boys were on the oval playing Evasion games! The activities will swap for tomorrow evening. Everyone has walked to their cabins now to sleep, taking time to recharge for another action packed day down here at Gold Coast.

Students were challenged, encouraged, showed resilience, and exhibited great teamwork in a range of activities - from The Giant Swing and Leap of Faith to Archery to Abseiling. The weather shone brightly and a fun day was had by all. The evening's activities saw students engaged in Indigenous dance, song and storytelling, as well as lemon myrtle tea and roasting marshmallows. Some tired bodies tonight!

13.01.2022 Working Bee 2021! Wow! What a great start to the year. So many people turned up this morning to help with our first working bee for 2021. We had about 45 people which included so many energetic children. They did a great job, showing such pride in their school! A huge THANK YOU to everyone as we whipper snippered; weeded; mulched; weeded; collected up bark and twigs; and more weeding. The areas look great and it was a really big effort in getting the school ready for first day back on Wednesday 27 January. Thank you to all!

09.01.2022 Our Year 6 students headed off to sunny and emerald green Mapleton today. Students enjoyed the bus trip to the Sunshine Coast and then went to explore their new surroundings. Lunch was fish and chips and then straight into the afternoon activities. Students craftily canoed around the lake, with sneaky splashing wars waged. Others engaged in traditional sports, exploring some traditions of Indigenous Australians in a fun and modern way. Although low to the ground, the low rope...s course provided a challenge for many and the Giant Swing did not deter anyone, with many courageous efforts made. The afternoon finished off with a dip in the pool with the water slide featuring prominently for many students. Dinner was a lovely pasta bolognese and many students learnt the art of successfully scraping their plates when it came to washing up! The night came to end with the screening of 'Wonder' and a resounding spontaneous round of applause at the end of the movie-a lovely way to link into the Year 6 English unit of work. There were many tired faces at the end of the day and silence is echoing across the building (well mostly!). See more

02.01.2022 So Day 3 of the Year 5 camp and the students are home now! No doubt parents, you are hearing the stories of their camp adventures. Today we had a busy start to the day as we had to pack up our rooms, tidy up and then load our luggage in storage ready for the buses later in the day. The students did a great job - tidy rooms, nothing left behind and all ready in time for a delicious breakfast! And then off to do our final round of activities. There were beach games on the banks... of Tallebudgera Creek; rock wall climbing; canoeing; body boarding; archery; and Team Rescue. All of this on a glorious, sunny day on the coast. There was again lots of laughs; team building; challenges; and reaching a new best as the students stepped up to try new experiences. Lunch was a bit of quiet time as tired students prepared for the journey home. Our buses arrived and the students were so helpful in packing the many, many, many items of luggage into the hold! It was great to arrive back to school and see the parents greet their children and the immediate chatter about their camp. Thank you parents for a great group of children who are caring, supportive and keen to be involved. And a big thank you to the staff for their care, diligence and commitment to ensure everyone had a great time. Rest up Year 5 and we'll see you on Monday! Check out the photos! See more

01.01.2022 Celebrating Grandparents Day last Friday! What a fantastic turnout of Grandparents at our school on Friday 6 March! The Prep classes traditionally have Grandparents Day as part of their curriculum unit and invite the Grandparents in to help with activities. This year we decided to open it up to all year levels. And there were many positive comments as the visitors wandered through the upper grades. We all came together for a delicious morning tea in the Library where everyone mingled and chatted. We look forward to continuing this new tradition! Thank you to all who came along! Here are some snaps from the morning tea in the Library and Year 1C classroom.

We asked that students maintain the dress code of covered shoulders and closed on shoes. Students are also asked to contribute a gold coin to go towards the materials used for the day. Year 6 buddies will also celebrate alongside their prep buddies and assist all the students with the fun activities. Due to COV...ID-19 restrictions, this will be a student's only event. We are looking forward to a fun morning!
